“Nice hotel, very good location”
Reviewed 2 April 2014

We stayed in March at Melia Berlin for 4 nights in a standard room to visit Berlin as tourists.
Check in was a little disorganized, as we were checked in by a trainee that repeatedly needed help from his superior.
The room on the 6th floor was spacious and quiet and it had a nice, clean bathroom. Bed was comfortable.
View from the window was not very attractive (concrete wall).
We had booked a room without the (expensive) breakfast as there are many possibilities in the surroundings of the hotel to have a good breakfast.

The hotel is very conveniently located: at walking distance to many major attractions such as Reichstag, Bandenburger Tor, Museum Insel, Gendarmenmarkt, etc and only a couple of steps from underground and railwaystation Friedrichstrasse.
We also had some tapas at the Melia tapas Bar. The food was ok, but nothing special.

concluding remark: we would book the hotel again if we would come back to Berlin in future.

Dear Guest,
thank you very much for your stay at the Melia Berlin and also for your review.
We regret the inconvieniences you have had upon check in with our trainee.
In Germany the hotel bussines education takes 3 years and the students work in regular basis in a hotel thought all the different departments, and have also some time at school. it is a very intensive education and we are proud to train hotel bussiness profesionals.
We recomend you to apply for the meliarewards fideliy card from melia hotels international as you will get plenty of benefits as for example a 10% discount from the silver status in the hotel breakfast, restaurant, lobby and minibar.
We would like to welcome you soon.
best regards!

We stayed here for 3 nights, having emailed the hotel a week before arrival to ask for a room with a view.
To get to the hotel took 2 trains from the airport (we made a mistake - there is actually a direct train and the hotel is 100 metres from the FriedrichStrasse train station). Please note that we found Schonefeld airport to be poorly signed inside, the train station is a 200 metre walk outside and there are almost no seats in the airport with few shops for browsing if you arrive too early.
On arrival at the Melia, check-in was efficient, friendly and all in English. Our room was huge, with a massive bed, lots of pillows and a comfy seating area. The view was of the River Spree, Weidendammer bridge and a main road crossing, so we were guaranteed plenty to watch from the Juliet balcony. The hotel also provided a complimentary bottle of bubbly (for our anniversary) - a welcome surprise.
The room was very well appointed, lots of toiletries, bathrobes, slippers, safe, TV with a selection of European channels (only BBC World News and CNN for English guests though) but no tea/coffee facilities (although the minibar was well stocked).
We booked a Hop-on, Hop-off bus tour via the Concierge, who proved helpful a number of times during our stay. This was well worth doing to get an informed and comprehensive tour and a lift to wherever you wanted to go.
The Reichstag and Brandenburg Gate are about 15 minutes walk, Checkpoint Charlie a few minutes more and the TV tower a few minutes more (different directions though), so the location really is good. The river cruise starts opposite the hotel and was also well worth the money for a different viewpoint and commentary.
FriedrichStrasse is full of shops and has plenty of restaurants and bars, so you don't need to go far to eat.
We ate in the Melia Tapas bar one night and it was excellent - a lovely selection of Tapas at a reasonable price - we recommend it.
We also ate twice at the superb Block House - a steakhouse that serves amazing steak and burgers - one of the best steaks I've had.
Wifi can be bought for a daily fee, but they will also give you tickets for free wifi (50meg for 24 hours), so you can ask for a few of these to last you. The speed was fine for browsing and messaging but not quite up to video calls.
The staff never failed us when we asked for anything and checkout was easy and the bill accurate first time.
We loved Berlin and will happily return to the Melia on the next trip.
We are happy to answer any questions about our stay.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view also get a lot of road noise!

I couldn't believe how close we were to the hotel when we exited the Friedrichstrasse train station, having come directly from the airport, and of course this meant that the return trip was very simple for us too. I also found it very handy for general wandering and sightseeing.

Although we arrived at the hotel a little early our room was ready. The room was airy, bright and clean, and I found the bed very comfortable. Air-con was working and the complimentary bottle of sparkling water and robe and slippers were nice touches, and unexpected at the price.

Thomas on the reception desk provided us with plenty of information on areas of interest that were off the beaten tourist track and also on public transport to a theatre we needed to find. I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here if/when I return to Berlin.

I chose this hotel rather blindly and I can't believe my luck. It is in such a fantastic location - close to train stations, monuments and the main shopping area. Such a good location everything we wanted to see was in walking distance!

The room itself was huge with a large bathroom. All staff we encountered were friendly and professional.

We plan on returning to Berlin and I already know this is the hotel we will be using again.

Stayed with friends for my birthday we had booked three rooms when we arrived early only one room was ready but we were allowed to put all our bags in one room and go out for the day. The staff were very helpful giving help with where to go to eat etc especally Sarah. The location is really central and as other reviewers have said within walking distance of all major sites.
We got the rooms for a good rate. Would recommend this hotel if you wanted a nice central place to stay

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the courtyard

Really enjoyed our stay. Like so many others have said already, the location is fantastic. Well within easy walking distance to many of the tourist attractions - checkpoint Charlie, holocaust memorial, Brandenburg gate, museum island, tv tower to name a few. There are also many restaurants nearby. The hotel itself was clean and the staff were very friendly. We were checked in by mr. much and although his manner was informal he was friendly and welcoming. He allocated us a lovely room with a view over the river with lovely sunsets. The room amenities were more than adequate although the towels were a little thin.
The breakfast was a highlight and well worth including in the booking. Everything you could think if on a breakfast buffet at a high standard - including a glass of Buck's Fizz!!

Good location, friendly enough staff. Basics aren't quiet up to standard - towels provided were tiny, rough & only two provided. Décor outdated and tired. Excellent location. Impersonal, in a way which portrayed they weren't bothered about impressing guests.
