“The meaning of a smile...”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

Apart from the check in (done by a very rude & unfriendly person, Mr. F. Garros Rivas who made us very unwelcome people) all the other aspects of the Hotel were ok.
The room was very quite facing the courtyard and the breakfast was very good.
The location is perfect beeing on the FriedrichStrasse and next to the metro station.
The Tapas bar was good at reasonable prices.
A bit overpriced the Minibar in the room.

Close to rail, all major attractions. The staff are polite , helpful, and very friendly. The breakfast has a great selection. We had our wedding anniverersary while staying there, and we received a bottle of wine from the manager , what a lovely surprise. This is the place to stay in Berlin.

Room Tip: Room on the 7th floor. You have access to the club lounge.

We were really pleased about the location, services and appointments of this hotel. We were in room 445 which had a view on the Spree River. The windows open so you can control the fresh air but the street is rather noisy. Walking along the river, you reach museum island in about 15 minutes. The Reichstag is a bit over 20 minutes to the west. Starbucks is just south of Friedrichstrasse train station and good dining is all around. We ate at the Blockhouse, Anand's Indian and Boulevard Friedrichstrasse. There is a fair sized REWE grocery a few doors south at the Prime Kebap shop. I booked directly and had free wifi. The bath was clean and modern with a bidet. Nice Toiletries. The room was spacious and clean. You can buy Hop-on, Hop-off bus tour tickets right at the desk (board at Unter den Linden street), staff were pleasant and efficient. Very pleased all around!

this hotel is very well placed and very modern and comfortable. The room was very spacious and bright. I really enjoed the coctail bar and,of course, the breakfast was great as well. I'd only complain a bit about wifi because i !'d expect that at bussines hotel the wifi will be free,or at least more mb for free, and a bit faster.but in general i can reccomend this hotel with no doubts and during my next Berlin visit i likely stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel on Sun 4th May for three nights. The rooms were nice and spacious and the decor was bright and modern. Comfortable beds and a gorgeous bathroom. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Nice cocktail bar. The only complaint is that the bedrooms are far too warm and that is why it doesn't get full marks from me. As we were in a courtyard room we were able to open the window overnight without the noise of any traffic being an issue. We got a direct train from Schoenfeld Airport without much trouble, but you have to get your tickets from a machine with no ticket office. Getting off at Fredricstrasse station, the hotel is only 200 metres away. Look for the 4 flags outside the front door. You can walk to Under Den Linden in 5 minutes. Plenty restaurants nearby, we ate in the Block House and had the best burger ever, also had good steak in Maredo. There is a Starbucks through the station bridge on the main road to Under Den Linden .Murphys pub out the hotel to the right over the bridge is good. We used the Hop On / Hop Off bus to do the tour of Berlin, it covers quite an area and takes over 2 hours to do the circuit. Book it through Viator.
Visited as many tourist stops as we could, but ran out of time. Favourite area was Nicholas Quarter, very pretty and interesting. The Berlin Museum on Under Den Linden is a must see. Its exhibits are all numbered and you press the corresponding number on your individual handset to hear the information. The Museum Island is out the hotel, turn right, first right, (dont cross the river), walk about 200 yards, the first is facing you. Too much to see, not enough time, Will need to make another trip.

The Melia is a good business type hotel. Its quite large and consequently a bit lacking in soul, however for the reasons we selected it, we were not let down.

It is on the doorstep of Freidrichstrasse station for S and U Bahn trains which is ideal for getting around Berlin, as well as being walking distance to a number of attractions.

Although we only booked a standard room, it was very large and well appointed, with a huge bathroom (although our room had a disabled bathroom, so it may have been larger than normal).

We booked in advance, and got a very cheap rate too.

The breakfast was large and comprehensive, although I disappointed to not find any pretzels.

The only annoying thing was the 50mb wifi tickets. It was enough to check emails etc, but seemed petty to not include an unrestricted amount.

All in all, a good stay, and we would return if back in Berlin.

Room Tip: Although I would have preferred a street/river view, we were allocated a courtyard view room which w...
