Visiting the berlin Christmas markets

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 Sept 2017
Choose to visit the Christmas markets as they are stunning in Germany. Went to several and really enjoyed the experiences . The food ,gluvine delicious .We chose not to have breakfast at the hotel because it was far too expensive and there was many places locally to get superb breakfast rolls .The hotel was fine but workman outside made it difficult to sleep in.

Spend a couple of days in Berlin with the family. We are 5 with a 2 year old girl and a baby which was the main driver to find a hotel that allows all of us in 1 room. This mercure offered it, our son was sleeping on the sofa, they added a baby bed so that we were all taken care of.
As mentioned by the other reviewers, beside the huge room incl balcony, the main selling point is the location, very close to Kuhdamm and the theater at the Kuhdamm as well as subway and S Bahn station. Also history of Berlin museum is close by and plenty of restaurants.
Checkin was no issue, they were prepared as they knew we were coming. We reserved for 4 nights. Unfortunately we got only 1 roomkey (card), they mentioned they have not got enough. It would improve to get more cards that travel parties can also get more than just 1. We had to take the lift to the top floor. The lift is big, even refitted with a new flooring to make it look better. However, the lift is old, as the hotel, so you need to wait for a while to use it, it is really slow. Our room was at the end of the corridor, kind of a walk. Also the walls were not in best condition, some fungee on the wall already. However, this is only true for the corridor, inside the room everything was fine but the A/C system. That one was working but dripped a lot of water on the carpet.
Beds were all comfortable and the bathroom was good too with good waterpressure. Cleaning the room took place in the afternoon, which was a bit suprising. Coffee and tea was in the room included and the TV with German and other channels was available. We also used the internet, when connected it was all fine.
Breakfast is served in the morning. Food selection was the normal with some surprises. There was a very nice selection of cheese (above average) and also some special hot dishes I did not know before. The room itself was spacicous and specially the staff was really nice here, they took a bit care for our kids. What helped is that they had a kids corner around here for them to read or draw.
Reception staff was friendly and funny, also made it enjoyable for the kids.
Checkout was also fine, received a billl without problems.

Room tip: Top floor for nice view

The location is a stone throws away from Kurfuerstendamm subway which is fantastic! However the WiFi is absolutely terrible where most of the times it was very slow and would drop out. I did make mention this to the front end staff and they didn't do anything to act upon it or follow it up with me. Also, my stand in shower in the bath would leak water on the top corner of the floor which can be a hazard. Apart from that, it was an ok stay for a first time traveller to Berlin.

We stayed here on a family break in Berlin. From first contact with Alexandra at the reception, to saying goodbye to her again on the way out four days later, this hotel was excellent. In fact, even after checking out, they looked after us, by taking care of our baggage to pick up later that evening.

We arrived early on Sunday, and the hotel allowed us leave bags at reception, so that we could wander around Berlin while we checked in later. We were given great help finding the local transport hubs (the bus is about 2 mins walk around the corner on Kurfurstendam), and Sauvingyplatz S bahn is less than five minutes away. For tourists, the Yellow Circle bus and Story of Berlin are also within 5 mins walk.

But this is about the hotel. When we did check in, the room.. was huge. Our two kids are 14 and 17, so effectively adults, but the family room was more than enough space without getting in each others way. Very important with teenagers :)

And it was quiet. Very very quiet. No problems with any night time noise. We slept like babies.

Add breakfast to your stay. It costs very little (about 6 euro I think), and was excellent. Huge spread, of everything you'd want. Definitely good value.

Lidl is literally next door for the small things, and there's a nice restaurant at the other side.

When we'd to check out, the hotel offered to print our boarding passes for us, and even though we checked out at 12, they looked after our bags until 7 that evening so we could spend another full day wandering around the beautiful city of Berlin

We met a very nice Herr Stern who was very helpful, but I promised I'd give Alexandra a good mention. Give that lady a raise!!! Service with a smile. Thanks for everything.

Would I go back??

Probably will later this year. Definitely will when I go back to Berlin.

5 stars..

Room tip: they all seemed fine to us.

I stayed there for business purposes in June. The hotel itself is good located - just 15 minutes walking distance from Europa centre (one of Berlin 's most known points. Some renovation is due, but the stuff is very friendly and supporting. For sure I would stay there again.

We stayed here for 3 nights on a Europe stop over. Rooms where good. Nice cleaned and good size. The only issue we had was the windows where quite thin and could hear all the street noise. Oh and we had terribly annoying neighbours who thought they could party all night. And not much was done about it I tried to call reception but my phone didn't work bahaha! I'll get you next time. Expect average to good and you won't be disappointed 😳
