Hotel-Pension Cortina

The hotel was not what i wad expecting. It is an upscale hostel. The rooms were very clean and suitable for a short time in Berlin. The shower was small and weirdly placed in the room and the toilet was across the hall and shared. The toilet room was always clean. Staff wad friendly and helpful and breakfast was good. I would stay here again.

The Cortina pension is clean, low cost and in a nice neiborhood. You are not bothered after check in as the ammenities are free wi fi and breakfast which are covered upon check in. The room is clean ,high ceiings, and rather basic. But at the current price well worth it. It is located half way between the zoo and Charlotteburg. Nice resteraunts and shopping are all nearby as is the S bahn trains to take your destination. I wouldn\t hesitate to book again. I had a pleasant tay

We booked this place based on the positive reviews. I am not sure if the folks reviewed this pension and we stayed at the same place. First, the Russian receptionist was so unfriendly and unfocused on her tasks. Second, for the price that we paid, the room was very small and the bathroom had reusable PLASTIC cups ( did I mention REUSABLE ). We are in German and paid 120Euro for our room not in a third world country. Third, breakfast was unbearable to eat. We drank some teas. The breads looked like plastic and the cold cuts (meats) came from cheap package meats. Do yourself a favorite look for something else. Having said all that, it is a quiet place and indeed it is located in a nice area of Berlin but there are hundreds of hotels located in and around the area.

I like the staff, the fact that they speak broken english and not that well is charming. My room was clean and bigger than I expected. Nice old style with beautiful windows. Internet was working well. Breakfast was not much but fresh and the coffee was good. The location is perfect for Charlottenburg, close to S-bahn, shops and lots of restaurants.

Some reviewers complain about unfriendly staff. I guess they are americans expecting chatty, overfriendly staff everywhere.. welcome to europe ;)

I do recommend earplugs if you are unused to traffic noise and if you go to bed before 23 since that is when the reception closes and some rooms are situated close to it.

The staff was not helpful they do not understand English and it was ver difficult to communicate with them. They changed the towels once a week. I stayed two weeks and the bed was changed twice. The location of hotel is good near city center

Surrounded by restaurants (inc. a cheap Moroccan takeaway over the road), nice bars, cafes and even a really good supermarket (hotel room picnic time!) and a very short stagger from the S Bahn at Savignyplatz after a night out.

Reception is up on the 2nd floor reached by a staircase of staggering sort of 'faded glory chic', it was everything I wanted from a Berlin pension! The receptionist had fairly limited English, but lets face it with your reservation printed out conversation tends to be a limited anyway! But do remember to ask for the wi-fi code. She was very friendly though, lots of smiles and showed me to my room on the 1st floor. What a room! Think university halls of residence but furnished in a random mix of modern, old East German and MFI and you get the picture, basically, quirky as hell... Large double windows opened onto the quiet courtyard below so it was well aired.

The bathroom was spotless, as was the room, the beds were comfy, the telly was German only and a pretty rubbish reception, but then I didn't go to Berlin to sit in my room and watch telly! Anyway, you can catch up with news etc on the pretty fast broadband connection.

No-one bugs you, you just come and go as you please and it's a bit like having your own flat, only someone else nakes the bed every day! I'd recommend this place to anyone unless you have a problem with hotels not being soulless and corporate.

Quick tip for veggies reading this... The Moroccan place does good veggie stuff (felafel - 3.50), and check out Asia Gourmet, they seems to have branches in most major railway stations, lots of good veggie choices and cheap! (2.50 - 4,50 euro for a decent platefull of good food!)

Room Tip: I went for the 'single comfort room' option which got me a twin to myself, lots of space to...

Spent two nights here beginning of June 2012 after having to find a room on very short notice. The Cortina's rates were far more competitive than those of other nearby options of similar or lower standard (e.g. hostel dorm) and included breakfast - though i missed out on that due to very early morning flight. Staff were matter-of-fact but not unhelpful.
The room was located on the second floor and went out to the yard, so it was very quiet. Furnishing was outdated, but room was spotless. Bed comfortable. There was a TV and free wifi, but no phone. Had ensuite toilet and shower with window, again basic, but very clean. Shower had great temperature and water pressure though no hook for holding the shower-head (small thing that would be easy to improve). I tend to reuse my towels so I cannot comment on towel replacement (I noticed a few other reviewer's had issues with this).
The location is very central; about 3 mins away from S-Bahnhof Savignyplatz plus various bus lines and about 10 min walk to Bahnhof Zoo. There's a supermarket on the opposite side of the road and many restaurants and cafes nearby. Just be warned if you have a lot of luggage: there's a steep flight of stairs to tackle before you reach reception and/or the lift to further levels.
