“Perfect for 1 night near tegel”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Pros: The location is great - 7-8 minutes from Tegel airport by bus, next to U Bahn station. The singe room was big and clean, with spacious bathroom.
Cons: No elevator, the carpet in my room was dirty.

Friendly service no doubt, rooms were clean. I was surprised that the internet was not free though and either was the breakfast. Did I read that wrong? Nothing special, it can be loud because of the planes but I was passed out. Good location. I would recommend you take the bus, wish I did. It's a $12 Euro ride versus a few Euros to take the bus. Does the job for a layover. Nice Italian place nextdoor, recommend the pasta! I feel like it was a little overpriced..

We only stayed one night (long layover, MXP-TGL-LAX). The hotel is no frills, rather spartan but it's clean and comfortable. The staff at the reception desk was very helpful. Convenient transportation to downtown Berlin. Bus to and from the airport, about 10 minute ride. Great for frugal travelers who pack light (no elevator). If we were to stay in Berlin for several nights I would definitely stay in downtown Berlin. By the way, Berlin exceeded my expectations. Definitely will return in a not too distant future.

Room Tip: Some people complain about airplane noise. This was a non issue since they stopped flying around 10...

If you have to stay overnight near the airport, this is a convenient budget hotel, accessible by bus 128 (2.60 euros) in about ten minutes. The hotel was clean and comfortable with a responsive staff. As you enter the hotel, you have to climb up one floor to the reception, no elevators being in sight. Restaurants are available in the immediate vicinity. Some reviews state that the hotel provides a shuttle service. I saw no mention of this on the hotel's Web description and saw no indication that it was available once I was there. The hotel's web description states that internet is available at a charge. You should not have to pay extra for Internet just as one doesn't pay for a bed lamp or TV..

I found the Hotel Baerlin in the United Airlines hotel suggestion, as being close to Berlin's Tegel airport. It cost $87.44 prepaid on the UAL website. The hotel is a few km from Tegel by car, and has free parking (it shares a parking lot with a bowling alley, a friseur, and a bar, the Hangover.) I drove up to the hotel on what I interpreted as an driveway, and was informed that it was illegal and told how to the find the parking lot, behind the building. There were no obvious parking places for the hotel, so, because I was leaving at 7:00 AM on a Sunday I parked in a friseur parking space. There was no elevator, so I put a shirt and a pair of underpants in my backpack, and climbed up the stairs to the reception. The room was clean (except for a stained carpet), the single bed comfortable and the feather bed adequate, the bathroom clean (with a bidet, not totally usual in Germany). The television set was a tiny CRT but it had CNN. The Hangover looked like an interesting place to have a beer, but I was too tired. The hotel served breakfast (which I didn't take, given the early flight), and there didn't seem to be very interesting restaurants in the neighborhood, but I arrived well after dinner. So: if you need a place with free parking close to Tegel, and can do without aesthetics, a bellboy, or an elevator it is a fine place. But if you are expecting the Westin Grand you are not gonna get it.

Dear guest,

thank you for your feedback and we are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay.
As mentioned, the Hotel Baerlin is in a convenience proximity to the airport and local restaurants. We have taken on your feedback in regards to the carpet and have handled the issue.

We would be happy to welcome you back to the hotel in the near future.

Very well positioned - just 10 minutes by Taxi from Tegel Airport. Across the road from Kurt Schumacher Platz U-Bahn and therefore 20 minutes from the Centre of Berlin. There are also a number of eateries and pubs nearby in Scharnweberstrasse. There is also a shopping centre across the road for the essentials.

I have stayed twice at Hotel Baerlin, once was in June of 2012 for three nights. There was a problem with regard to me being given a double room which I paid for. I gave feedback to the hotel and they promised to upgrade me to a Junior Suite when I next visited. I next visited in December 2012 and Mr Gregor Siepolt, Director obliged with the Junior suite.

This isn't a flash hotel, it isn't particularly modern. It is an economical accomodation centre which is handy for the airport and exploring Berlin. This I feel, it does well. It is clean, the two rooms I have stayed in were quite spacious and completely acceptable.

The staff are very pleasant and often Bilingual. Which was handy as my Pidgin German heavily Scots accented was difficult for the natives to understand........ They also have been useful in the provision of information.

If you can appreciate Hotel Baerlin's limitations in advance then I am sure that you will have as good an experience as I have had.
