My daughter and I stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Catalonia. At first sight we were daunted by the hotel's austere exterior but on walking into the courtyard and then the attractive lobby we couldn't believe such a pleasant hotel could be so reasonably priced. The decor was modern and the reception staff obliging and friendly. Our bedroom was just as we had requested and attractively decorated. Our experience of the hotel breakfast has become one of our best memories of the holiday.

Stayed here for 2 nights with girlfriend and friends. The price was reasonable the location is perfect, central and on a quiet street. Super comfortable big beds. The hotel has a great atmosphere and all the staff very friendly and helpful. Late checkout and rooms cleaned whenever you want. Oh yes and the breakfast was spot on with what tasted like freshly squeezed Valencia orange juice. Well done guys, keep up the great work!

We stayed 6 nights at the hotel. We chose it because it was near the river, very central and the rates were attractive. The hotel is brand new with a surprising decoration, inspired by street art, very appropriate in Berlin. A spanish touch with tapas and wine at the bar.
The personnel is nice and helpful. The rooms are large, well equiped. The location is near a metro station, bus and train station. A short walk from the river. Not very far from the attractions of Mitte but also near Kreuzberg which is so attractive during the summer.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front and street maybe more noisy.

We booked this hotel with out any recommendations and enjoyed the stay.
The train station is across the road however recommend that you walk to Jannowitzbrücke as you can get anywhere in Berlin extremely quickly. Location not a problem at all.
Service and breakfast were great however the tv system was not operating for the weekend for the World Cup, a shame but not the end of the world.
We will return to Berlin, and we will stay here again.

We booked this place without any other recommendations than the ones on this site, but it was definitely the correct choice: like most things in Berlin lately, it is a new hotel, and some taxi-drivers didn’t even know it existed. With a very discreet entrance, you access the hotel through a typical inner court-yard, and the lobby displays the now classical Berlin-style industrial-shabby-chic interior design: vintage furniture mixed with concrete walls with isolated graffiti paintings on the wall and bits of the old structure of the original building showing. Small details like modern lamps and curtains give it just the right touch.

The rooms though are modern and functional: for a 4-star hotel I did miss a bathtub instead of just a shower. Also, there are no cupboards, just a bar with coat-hangers, and a few big drawers to store your clothing. Other than that the beds are really comfortable but the pillows a bit too big for my taste. Also, your average range of amenities: bathing-robe and slippers, free coffee and tea, optional wifi, and a safe. Breakfast was great. Our room faced a private parking lot for office-buildings, so there was no noise at all. Against the skyline, the TV tower from the Alexanderplatz loomed overhead. Maybe the location is one of the down-sides: while having the U Bahn station Heinrich Heine practically at the door, the neighborhood is already Kreuzberg, which some people might find a bit too run-down: no nice cafés or restaurants in 10 minute walking distance, just liquor-stores. Opposite the hotel thare are only anonymous residence buildings and further down the road, abandoned factory-lots reconverted into multi-purpose alternative-culture venues, like beach–bars and vegan restaurants. But the U-Bahn line is two stations away from Alexanderplatz. The hotel is especially recommended for Spanish customers, as the hotel belongs to a Spanish chain, and it employs Spanish-speaking staff. It also has Spanish tapas on the menu.

Room Tip: Some rooms face an inner court yard, mention this if you do not want to be in one.

We stayed three nights here and thought was a great choice. Spacious foyer and rooms and well decorated. Nice bar with tables in courtyard. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good location for walkers like us and close to underground. Walk from east station bit unpleasant but would definitely stay here again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Catalonia Berlin Mitte hotel owes its name to its central location in the city. Opened in February 2014 and located in a building dating from 1911 with an austere facade, typical garage entry leading into a quiet courtyard, it had once housed several offices, jewlery store and even STASI (berlins eastern police during the berlin wall period) members. It is just 10-15 minutes' walk from Museum Island and 15-20 minutes' walk to Alexanderplatz and historical Nikoleiviertel; Berlin's entertainment area full of typical restaurants. The hotel is located just in front of the Heinrich Heine Metro Station (U8, two stops to Alexanderplatz) and close to the upcoming hipster district of Kreuzberg. It is also close to the Jannowitzbrucke railway station to (S5, U8), with direct connection to the Messe Berlin/ICC (fairgrounds) and to the BCC - Berlin Congress Center at Alexanderplatz it takes only 1,2 km or 1 S-Bahn stop. Decorated by Barcelona based Interiorists "Denis von Arend" walls, ceilings and other building elements take an unusual prominence exposing the historical memory of the building that will captivate the customer. The hotel has a unique lifestyle charm recreating the essence of Berlin with its industrial style, raw walls and graffitis in each floor created by well known berliner artists. All this is backed by an excellent service, functionality and comfort guaranteed by the Catalonia H&R Stamp, that will provide our Guests an unforgettable experience. The hotel has 131 spacious and bright rooms (42 of them superior rooms with extra amenities) with Smart flat screen TV's, minibar and safe. It also has two meeting rooms, an upgrade breakfast buffet, lobby with internet corner and working tables, cocktail bar, the Kunstwerk Restaurant in the evenings, exterior terrace at the courtyard and free Wi-Fi throughout the whole hotel. ... more   less
