“Hidden gem but fairly expensive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2012

Chez Maurice is a hidden gem you would not expect to find in this part of Berlin. It's French cuisine but neither upmarket nor up nosed. I ate bistro classics like chèvre chaud and filet de boeuf and my friend had two starters instead of starter and main course which was just as good a choice. The atmosphere is very laid back, in particular if you get a table outside. The quality of the food, however, was solid. Service was friendly, swift and competent.
The only downside are the prices for wine by the bottle. Chez Maurice is also a wine shop and if you want to drink one of the bottles in the restaurant they simply double the price. This is a strange policy. Why is it twice as expensive to uncork a 50 € bottle than a 25 € bottle? Maybe more people would enjoy some of the more exclusive wines if they simply added a, say 15 € Euro corkage fee, regardless of what you choose.

“looking for wine and a french dish on the side...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2012

this is a nice place, off the trendy Prenzlauer Berg district area.
Though dishes are a bit pricey. plan to spend upto 30-35 Euro per Person.

Also I recommend to plan on getting a reservation, prior a visit.

“to be avoided”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2011

Have been there with a friend this week.
beet root offered from the house as a starter.
duck breast with risotto and beet root (again!) + capere
already a rather strange combination.
1 glass of wine each & water. Total: 70 euros !!
next day food poisoning, diarrhea, fever, vomiting etc ..
wondering, how many days that risotto have been?
won't go again for sure

“Overrated and expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2010

This is small french style bistro located in a residential area outside the center. The place is nice with lots of wine bottles in the walls and a nice selection of cheeses on display. The food quality was not what I was expecting and IMHO a little over priced. A dinner for 2 went up to 100 euro with just 1 glass of wine each.
Not worth the displacement if you are in Berlin just a few days as a tourist as I was.
