“Good location for a budget stay in Berlin!”
Reviewed 13 August 2012

I think this is one of the best locations to stay if you're limited on budget but still want to be close to the city center. Hotel is located in the Prenzlauer Berg district which is a very lively district with lots of restaurants, cafes and clubs. Theres always something to do all-day long.

When it comes to transport, you should have nothing to complaint about: the subway station U-Bahn Senefelderplatz is just in front of the hotel and within 2 stops you'll be at Alexanderplatz. At night you can take the cab back to the hotel for just as little as 4-6€ from the city center.

Hotel is more of something in between a hostel and a hotel. Upgraded hostel. It has small rooms but should sufficient. It has all the primary needs: a good (not too soft) bed, shower/toilet and a table/closet. It was quite warm when we got there, there's no air-conditioning but in the hottest days you can buy a small table fan at Saturn. Theres basic breakfast available and costs €4.50 if booked up front or €6.00 if not, but not worth it if you haven't pre-booked it. There are plenty places around the hotel and in the city center where you can eat.

Avoid the regular seasons though, since the hotel will be packed with kids and students who come here with school trips. During holidays its great and quiet and mostly used by travelers.

The hotel is located right next to the U-bahn station, two stops from Alexanderplatz.
The Rooms are small but fine. Great value for the money. We would love to come back again some time.

We were expecting a hostel - Meininger thinks its a hotel! For the price we paid (booked online months ago) we have a private room with toilet and shower (there are 3 of us in a 4 bunk room for 15€ a night) What's not to like? As others have said its in a handy location, staff are helpful - got free wifi - its clean - we'd definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: 305 is on the road side and if you have the window open traffic noise may be a factor (no A/C)

The big advantage of staying at the Meininger is its location, right in front of a metro station and not far away from the main sights in Berlin. In addition, the cost of the hostel is fair for what you get.
The place is run by kids who sometimes are not that helpful. We had a problem with our flight booking and the receptionist could not lend us a phone. When we offer to pay for the call, he said that it was 2 EUR for 10 minutes. That was OK, but he could have said so since the beginning. Also there are many kids staying at this place so I can be noisy at times. Breakfast is 4 EUR (if you order in advance) and it is quite basic just bread, cold cuts and cereal.

We have spent almost a week there in March. The building is quite new (or just renewed) and modern from outside to inside. The staff were really kind and helpful, and you can find lots of information about programs and possibilities to spend the time well in Berlin. Our room was on the top floor with a perfect view to the TV tower and the city. In the room there is no unnecessary equipments, only what you need - cupboard, table with chairs, TV, bedsides, mirror. This room was enough spacious for two persons. Also the bathroom. The room wasn't the cleanest one.

You can buy ticket to the public transport there, and Berlin Card is also available. In the rooms there is no WLAN access for free (2€ for an hour, 3€ for 2 hours), only at the lobby, but sometimes you can'f find free place there. There are only paid parking, 15€ for a day, or 10€ if you buy parking ticket at the reception. It better to leave the car somewhere else. So the room price could be good, but with some additional costs the total price can be much more higher.

The location of the hotel/hostel is really good, there is an U-Bahn (subway) station next to the building, and the middle of Berlin, Alexanderplatz is only 2 stops from there. On foot it takes about 15 minutes walk. At the surrounding streets there are lots of café, shops, bars, it's easy to find a place for a breakfast or for hang out. So we never tried the breakfast in the hotel, but I can recommend Café Impala, which is across the road and it's really worth it.

I stayed here with my boyfriend. The room was very clean, though the press on shower of our ensuite bathroom was a but bothersome. The location was nice, just in front of a metro station. Wish it had wifi in rooms, but it was available for free in the lobby, so not a problem. The biggest problem we had was that our room was very hot, since it got sun all morning, so it was not possible to sleep in.

Good things: Location, it's suposse to give to some certain of comfort and cleaniless.
Bad things: The mattress were so hard, and the shower was broken and the water was splashing everything.
You have to do the check out at 10, so soon! But you can pay (as with everything) a bit more and stay there until 1 p.m.
Very expensive for what it is.
