“Spacious Room in the Heart of the City”
Reviewed 8 June 2013

We recently stayed at this property for one week and could not have been more satisfied with the accommodations. The room exceeded our expectations in terms of size and location. It was about the same size as our Washington, DC apartment! The location was within walking distance to Alexanderplatz, Friedrichstrasse, Gendarmenmarkt and Potsdamer Platz. On the average side were the gym, pool, and breakfast, which was overpriced, but the happy hour was convenient and affordable. The property was also close to two inexpensive grocery stores and we secured a really good rate for the number of consecutive nights of our stay. We would definitely return and recommend to others.

Great size rooms, well-maintained and well-equipped (we ended up staying twice to wait out the Prague floods, and were able to request a room with washer/dryer second time). Staff were very welcoming, especially on realising we had decided to return to Berlin. Not sure about the 'Aussie' theme, but we enjoyed our 'g'day drinks', and posing with the hand standing bear covered in indigenous design out the front.

Hotel is in a great location to walk to many sites in Berlin (we didn't bother with public transport at all, apart from arriving/leaving the city).

Most hotels make their photos on the Internet look better than in reality, this hotel is the opposite as the photos on their web site don't do this hotel justice. Excellent place to stay, large rooms, very quiet equipped with everything that you need: Kitchen, washer, dryer. The only negative was having to pay for wifi and with that you had to log in all the time, multiple times per session. Would stay again, very well appointed.

Room Tip: Room with bedroom and lounge seperate is very large and spacious and worth the extra money.

Great value - we got the 1 bedroom apartment and it was a very nice size. It was clean, kitchen was nice to have and also washer/dryer. Bathroom was also very nice, clean and huge. We stayed in Berlin for 5 nights and was the first leg of our trip (this allowed us to pack lighter as we could wash all of our clothes for the 2nd part of the trip - it worked out great!) Great location (there is still a lot of walking, but Berlin is a big city!), great hotel!

I'd definitely recommend this hotel. It's an ideal base for discovering Berlin with all main attractions within walking distance. It's in a more residential area rather than tourist area, but that didn't bother us because its still a central location

I was a little concerned when we arrived because there seemed to be a lot of building work around the hotel. (although there is building going on everywhere in Berlin, I've never seen so many cranes in a skyline). We were also given a ground floor room so was concerned about traffic noise. However I needn't have worried because our room opened on to the courtyard, with no windows to the road and we had our own little area with table and chairs. It was actually the quietest hotel room I've ever stayed in, we never heard the slightest noise from any other guests.

Loved having the kitchen and we just bought food from Lidl in front of hotel for breakfast. We did a lot of walking and having the pool to relax in the evenings was a bonus.

We didn't eat at the hotel, as we are vegetarians and nothing on the menu appealed to us.
Thank you to previous trip adviser reviewers who recommended 2 restaurants near the hotel. We went to the Thai (turn left outside the hotel and its on the road at the very end) and the Italian (across from Lidl, called Trevi). We ate at both of them and they were both good and reasonably priced.

Cannot fault the room at all it was great. The bed was a bit too firm for me but everyone is different and you cannot please everyone. As we were staying 4 nights I ask if they had a spare quilt for me to lie on to try and soften the bed a little but the receptionist didn't seem to understand me.

Free internet access on a computer in the lobby was really useful

We flew into Schönefeld airport, arriving 9pm and felt safe using the public transport, we walked under the covered walkway to the train station. We struggled a little with the ticket machine, we were using the wrong one initially and there was no staff around to ask. However the machines do have an English option and we eventually bought an ABC zone ticket. We had to look at the timetable on the wall to work out which train and which platform we needed. When we got to Alexanderplatz we took the underground to Stadtmitte, the hotel is only a few minutes walk from here. Difficult to give directions because there are a number of exits from the station we had to look at our map. Cost us 3.10 euros each to get from the airport to the hotel. You need to remember to validate your ticket in one of the red machines at the station

On our first day we did the Fat Tire bicycle tour, which I would recommend. You don't have to book ahead you can just turn up, they meet under the TV tower. We did the city tour, they took us to a nice beer garden in the Tiergarten, it was so nice we went back later in our stay. Lots of people cycle in Berlin

We then went back to same places at our leisure. We visited Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag (book on line beforehand to go into the dome and or get a tour, we booked a few days before and only times left were in the evening. You need to book further in advance if you want the tour), Holocaust Memorial, Topography of Terror, East Side Gallery, Potsdamer strasse (went up panoramapunkt cost 5 euros, decided to do this rather than the TV tower).

If you've never been to Berlin before I would suggest that you leave the Riechstag dome and panoramapunkt/TV tower until later in your visit and you will have more of a feel for the areas and what you are looking at.

If we go to Berlin again would definitely stay in this hotel.

Dear FredandFlorence,

Thank you for your recent review of Adina Apartment Hotel Berlin Checkpoint Charlie - we really appreciate the time you have taken to write such a detailed and positive comment.
It is wonderful to hear that our spacious rooms, our pool area and our free Internet access in the lobby helped making your stay a great experience. We are also very grateful for your general comments about construction work throughout the entire city of Berlin – as you mentioned, our rooms facing the inner courtyard are very quiet and for us it is a great compliment that we could provide you with “the quietest hotel room you have ever stayed in”.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future and are always happy to assist with your next booking request.

Stayed 5 nights in the Checkpoint Charlie Adina Apartment Hotel. The service was great, the apartment was huge, clean and modern and the spa and pool area were available to all guests! It is in a good location right near Checkpoint Charlie and in walking distance to some of the major tourist attractions, such as the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Holocaust Memorial, Jewish Museum, etc.
