“Great food, great value, great experience”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

I was almost put off by some of the other Tripadvisor reviews, but I am glad we found ourselves near this restaurant at dinner time and decided to try. The owner/manager was friendly and explained that they don't have a menu, rather he has three options for a set three-course menu each day - for €7.50. Such a great deal. The food was great, the wine pour was generous, the owner/manager was friendly. No complaints - it was a very pleasant, delicious meal at a great value.

“Manager very rude - we left before eating”
Reviewed 8 April 2013

Went because of Lonely Planet review. We weren't sure where we wanted to eat, and there were only two other people in the place at the time, so went in and politely asked if we might see the menu. The manager was quite pushy and said we should just sit down before taking anything any further. He insisted, so we did, against our better judgement. He then recited the menu to us. To be fair, the selection sounded good - and was very cheap - but we weren't sure if that's what we wanted - something that was clear to him from the start. We thanked him, but politely explained that we'd look elsewhere. At this point, he instantly became very rude and immediately stormed off across the restaurant, muttering about us under his breath and gesticulating. We quickly left, quite shocked by the anger a very normal interchange had sparked. There were only two other people there at the time, so the guy wasn't exactly rushed off his feet when we arrived.

I obviously can't comment on the food, but the treatment we received was terrible. We went on to find a lovely place to eat nearby, so there are alternatives in the area.

“Very cheap and good. Nice guest.”
Reviewed 18 February 2013

Here you can choose 3 menus at 7,5 euro each. Plus drinking. The environment is very very basic, but the atmosphere is warm and easy. They don't have a real kitchen, plates are almost ready, they only put them together. It is recommended if you want to eat well and spend little, and if you don't expect a romantic or fancy place.

“absolutely overrated”
Reviewed 22 January 2013

We searched for it, pushed by the enthusiastic Lonely Planet's review.
I must say that I just can't understand the rationale of the well-known guide (I'm quite disappointed 'cause it occurrs more and more often with LP).
We found this place quite dirty, from ground to floor and the endeavours to position itself as a tavern IMHO fail completely.
The choice between the 3 different menus was well explained by other reviewers.
It's not an expensive place, but the quality is really fair (i.e. supermarket meat): it rather seemed to me I had a lunch in a workplace canteen.
But the most negative thing is that I didn't appreciate the so-called 'kindness' of the owner, which I found rather forced, annoying and gimrack (almost seemed to tease customers in their own language, with the most common clichés).
I'd suggest the owner to concentrate himself on the refreshing and refurbishing of this overrated cafè (in an area where alternatives are certainly plentiful) instead of auto-celebrating his own poor dishes with lots of 'magnific', 'fantastic', 'superb' when he serves them to you..

“A small French Island in the German Capital”
Reviewed 14 January 2013

This small bistro in the centre of Berlin is not just a place for cheap food. It is also a piece of France in the Capital of Germany. Especially because of Jean Claude an enthusiastic Waiter and the owner of the restaurant who really enjoys to chat between the courses. The food is very good and cheap. It’s not too much but it’s enough. You can choose between the different menus (meat, fish and couscous) and each of them involves three courses. The desserts are for example a small selection of cheese, mousse au chocolat or a small piece of cake. Everything tastes very delicious and the price is just 7,50 Eur. That’s a very good offer. So if you prefer quality instead of quantity and want to have a French evening, go there and enjoy!
