“Special place, very nice teas!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 January 2014 via mobile

At -12, it wasn't much fun to find out the place had moved to a courtyard on Oranienburger Strasse. The teas were nice, interior interesting and the soup good. Not expensive either. Waiter seemed fairly disinterested tho.

“Refreshing after a long sightseeing day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2014

The tearoom was built as a Tajikistan pavilion at one of the Leipzig trade fairs in the 1970s. After the trade fair ended, the pavilion was donated by the Soviet Republic of Tajikistan to their East German hosts. The pavilion then moved to the first floor of Berlin's Palais am Festungsgraben.
The tearoom's lush interior is decorated entirely in a classical Persian style, with carved wooden pillars and thick Persian carpets. Tea and food are served on low wooden tables which are typical of central Asia. Guests sit on the floor, stretched out on comfortable cushions, and visitors are required to take their shoes off before stepping onto the carpet.
We went for the famous tea and we ordered the Russian tea ceremony with orange juice which was great with the snacks and jam. I think it is a must-be-done for Berlin visitors, very original, cosy, refreshing after or in the middle of a long sightseeing day, and the most important DELICIOUS. It is in the Oranienburger strasse famous for the Jewish Synagogue (Neue Synagogue) with its golden dome, after the synagogue on your left you will find a short passage leading to the Tadschikische Teestube.

One word: Delicious!
Seriously, it was good. The people are nice and friendly.
It is not very expensive, they are fast (not too fast).

“OK, but..”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 March 2013

Perhaps people are too easily pleased by something that is "something different". The Plov was bland and had just a few small peaces of dry lamb, the perogy were also rather dry and really nothing to write home about.
The atmosphere is pleasant enough. Normal tables on the right, floor seating on pillows and carpets. Not good for small children/infants/toddlers since the waiter delivers hot tea. It is hard to stop the little ones from running around..

Tried for reservation but was told that they take none on weekends. We arrived at 2pm.

All in all, I would not go for food. The only attraction as far as we were concered, was the Russian tea ceremony...because it is "something different".

“Unique setting with delicious food and drinks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2012

This is unique place in Berlin - it was originally given as a gift to East Germany from Tajikistan. It is a cool setting with both low tables where you sit on pillows on the floor, and regular tables. It can tend to get crowded, so calling ahead is a good idea. Be sure to specify whether you want a regular table or a low table.

The tea drinks are interesting and fun to try. I also really enjoyed the food and desserts, which are Russian style. The main plates can be a bit small so I recommend also getting an appetizer to share. Prices are very reasonable, and servers are friendly, if a bit slow.
