“Stayed here 5 times - will not stay again!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 February 2013

My previous review gave these apartments 3 stars. I come here because the price is cheap and it is very conveniently located for where my business is.... just 5 minutes walk. However, even when the cost is low, I expect some minimum standards and I think these apartments fail. A couple of points to note:
- the flyer which is found on the hotel's website (only in German) says that the apartments have a fully equipped kitchen (komplett eingerichteter Küche). This is not true... see picture. There are only 2 electric rings to cook on and no microwave oven. So no way of cooking even a pizza or a ready-meal. Also, no serving spoon. No beer glasses. Very cheap wine glasses.
- the shower fitting was faulty so it continually dropped down the riser rail and twisted round. Also, no soap dish or hook in the shower so shampoos, shower gels etc had to be put on the floor
- the picture of the breakfast buffet in the flyer is not accurate. The selection is VERY poor. For example, no selection of breads just white bread rolls. One type of cheese. One type of ham. Cornflakes or muesli. For fruit, there were only apples for 2 days and apples and bananas on my 3rd day.
- the traffic noise is disturbing. Due to the building construction, the doble-glazed windows do not block much traffic noise so I had to use ear plugs to get to sleep. Also, there are no proper shutters or curtains at the windows - only venetian blinds - so light floods into the room in the morning.
- the 1 pillow (no others provided) fell out of the pillow slip/case and the pillow was disgustingly filthy (see photo)
- Berlin is the capital and receives many English and non-German visitors. The hotel owners do not accommodate non-English speakers. No information is provided in English and the owner does not speak any English. On a previous visit, I translated the informatin pack (including emergency information) into English and provided it to them. They have made no use of that information and still only provide emergency information in German. The only non-German TV channels are CNN and BBC World News (with about 25 other German-speaking cable channels).
- the website states that the hotel is non-smoking. This is not true. My floor had a very strong smell of cigarette smoke, most probably by guests smoking in the corridor as smoking is prohibited in rooms. Very unpleasant.
- the worst part of my stay was the owners insistence that I paid with cash, despite them having a credit card machine and my reservation stating very clearly "Amex, Visa and Mastercard accepted". I refused to pay with cash and the owner even pretended to swipe my Amex card in the machine the wrong way to pretent it wasn't accepted. I actually had to put the card in the machine myself the right way and of course, the pyament was accepted! This is NOT the way to treat customers.
There are a few budget hotels in the same area so I will be using one of those on my next business trip to Berlin.

Room Tip: If you still want to stay here despite my review, insist on a room at the back of the hotel as they...

Not a place for non German speakers. No information and no one to ask if there is a problem.
Appartments are very basic, very small tv and not the place to spent lots of time. Only wifi that was available was paid and problems buying it to start with.

Shower is one good thing, along with location and access to public transport. Wouldn't go again however.

Had a great stay at Berlin Apartments, even if only for 1 night. Needed a place relatively close to the Central Train Station - and the hotel was more than that, only 3 minutes on foot from the subway line U6, which can lead very easily to the main attractions (Museum Island, Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate, Ku'damm, etc.). Buffet breakfast was excellent, staff was very friendly despite speaking little English (only 1 person) and also let us keep the luggage in a small room until around 5pm. Room is HUGE, with bathroom, kitchen, sofa, small dining table and a balcony! Never expected one like that in Europe! Unlike the last reviewer, didn't hear any traffic noise, but the city was covered in half a meter of snow, so traffic must have been significantly less. Fantastic hotel, perfect for larger families (saw several other guests with 2-3 children). Only downside is staff is there only until 6pm, but they do manage around it.

Just got back from a short stay in Berlin with teenage daughter. The Berlin-Apartments were good value; nothing luxurious but perfectly adequate as we were out most of the time visiting a great city! Some plus and minus points:

Plus:
- Very convenient for the U-Bahn station at Schwarzkopstrasse (U6 line) as only about 4-5 mins walk. Easy to get there from Tegel airport. Good links to other U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations

- Good buffet breakfast with choices of bread rolls, cereal, meat and cheese, yoghurts etc. Excellent service but there were not many guests during our stay.

- En-suite bathroom to the apartment was good and the shower was very good (plenty of hot water and pressure!).

- We checked out at 10am but our flight was not until later (6pm). Owners were very helpful and let us leave luggage in a spare room with use of a bathroom if needed.

Minus:
- The traffic noise is noticeable even if you get an apartment at the back (like us). It is a main road with roadworks outside at present. Also a hospital is quite close so there is ambulance sirens on occasions. However, no worse than living in London.

- All the instructions for the apartment are in German. Only one member of staff speaks English so you have to catch her at breakfast to ask any questions! Only one english language channel (CNN News) on the cable TV.

- Wi-Fi is not free in the apartments.

Overall, a good place to stop for a city break to Berlin. We were out most of the time so it suited our needs. Would go back again.

Spent a week in Berlin and with wife and 2 teenagers. The apartment was easily large enough for the 4 of us - could have possibly taken two more.

Minimalist in style but had everything we wanted - not least the wi-fi!

The street was off the main drag an had a number of good restaurants (esp Oderquele) and coffee places. The area was very convenient for getting into town.

The company brilliant apartments were very helpful, looked after our bags on the final day and helped order us a taxi for the airport. I'd stay with them again.

These apartments are not expensive so I really did not expect luxury when I arrived. And indeed, the apartments are average. Look at their website - what you see is what you get. My room was very big and the bed was very comfortable but it was very plainly decorated and basically furnished..... but perfectly adequate for a 3-night business trip. There were just a few minor comments to note:
- the table was positioned nowhere near an electrical socket so I had to move the table and chairs to be able to work at my laptop. Similarly, the floor lamp was behind the sofa so it had to be moved across the other side of the room to have light to work by.
- the kitchen has very basic facilities. There is no cooker or microwave oven, just a double electric ring, a kettle, a filter coffee machine and a fridge with only a limited amount of cooking pans and utensils. So, don't come to these apartments expecting to be able to cook proper meals.
- do note that the apartments are on a main road. I asked for a room at the rear of the block but I could still hear traffic noise with the window open on the warm summer evenings.
- yes, the apartment is in Germany but NO information is provided in English (or any other language except German). There was a 6-page Information Pack in my room but I could not understand any of it; the business is obviously not aimed at non-English tourists, though their website is also in English as well a German!
