“hotel with theatrical touches”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

We stayed here for a 50th birthday party including tickets to a show in the neighboring theatre.

Our Deluxe room on the top floor of the obviously brand new hotel had some nice touches like the drain in the shower inconspicuously built into the floor and a half open translucent glass wall between bath sink and toilet. Unfortunately the mattress wasn’t as good as we’d hoped – and we wondered why a new hotel hadn’t invested more in the quality of what for most guests is the most important element in a hotel room.

We had a nice view of the Weser river and of the beautiful green lawn area that had obviously just been finished. A rather strange decorative wall between the two large windows limited our view somewhat.

In addition to a selection of magazines available in the room (which simply took up space for us and which we stacked in the corner), we had the neat opportunity to access papers and magazines online – at last recognition of the rapidly increasing use of e-media – and thankfully didn’t experience the problems with wifi that others have mentioned here. Perhaps our connection was good because the hotel wasn’t fully booked?

We took a walk with the group of friends to the old part of Bremen, a good 20-minute walk but mostly directly on the river and thus free of traffic. A truly wonderful special aspect of this Steigenberger is the attached theatre, where we saw the very entertaining show Move by a group of acrobats, musicians, and performers from Kiev: variety theatre in its best form. And of course the wonderful extra for those who took advantage of the weekend disco after the show was the very short walk back to the room.

The buffet breakfast was fine, even though the breakfast room seemed a bit small for the size of the hotel – and cool January weather didn’t allow for anyone to breakfast outside comfortably. At least we didn't have to wait since our group had reserved several tables in advance. We especially appreciated the made-to-order omelettes as well as the delicious coffee and cappuccino, which we could serve ourselves directly from the high quality Francke Evolution super-automatic machine.

The planners seem to have made the right decision to include a theatre to attact tourists who might otherwise have chosen a weekend in a hotel in the middle of town. Conference visitors no doubt keep the hotel full during the week.

We'll be curious to see how the area around the hotel develops and would certainly consider an encore stay especially when a theatre evening is included.

This is my second stay at this hotel. The room's nicely furnished with an espresso machine and ample number of electricity outlets. The bathroom is very nice especially the shower. But other than that nothing comes to mind. Internet speed is absolutely terrible even when I used the paid option. The breakfast is passable but the scrambled eggs are especially terrible. They have an omelet station to compensate for that but the chef is not always available.

The only reason I picked this hotel is because of the short distance to my meeting place.

Newly constructed hotel. I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. Hotel is just 10 minutes walkable from schlachte. Food quality is also very good but internet speed is not that acceptable. Overall nice hotel.

OK, internet first. This seems to be a general Steigenberger malaise. Suffice it to say that at EUR 8,00/day, 3G was actually faster. The hotel did the least they could and took the charge from the invoice.

In the room, which is nicely decorated: no bathrobes. Housekeeping provided these upon request, not very promptly, though. There is a Nespresso machine available- and the hotel boasts of this amenity on their website- but no capsules. Look, but don't touch, as it were.

The closet offers various articles for the cleaning of shoes, but surprisingly, the bathroom offers no vanity kit. Cotton pads, Q-Tips? Not here.

The most irritating feature of the room were the two mattresses that drifted apart time and again. Ideal for estranged couples, but only for those.

The lady who- finally- attended our table in the restaurant was the epitome of lack of interest and not very friendly. The chef's ambitions are far beyond his abilities. The food is attractively presented, but bland.

One positive aspect was the view of the Weser river and the Überseestadt, Bremen's up-and-coming industrial/residential quarter- think London's Docklands or Hamburg's HafenCity on a small scale.

Room Tip: There is only one advice that I can give: don't stay here.

Dear guest, I am sorry to learn that you did not enjoy your stay at our hotel. Therefor I can only appologize and hope that you might give us an second chance.

As mentioned in other comments internet is currently not our strenght but therefor free of charge. Our standard room type is not equipped the way our deluxe rooms are but bathrobes can be ordered from housekeeping on demand.

The hotel is like brand new, with very high standard of food, bedding, decoration etc. Also it is within 10 min walking distance from city centre. BUT the wifi is slower than the 3G and you will enjoy the view on a noisy rail bridge. Now decide.

Room Tip: Ask a view on the opposite side on the railway.

Thank you for your remarks. As any hotel close to the city centre there is an certain amount of noice to be compensated. As all our rooms are equipped with sound proof windows and air conditioning an overnightstay in our standard rooms should be no problem at all. If you are looking for an quiet room please book our deluxe room type instead. We are working on our internet line but please alos be aware that an basic account is offered free of charge.

Visited Bremen for the Christmas markets in December. I enjoyed the hotel, although it is a short walk from the centre, but there is a tram stop 2 minutes away that takes you into centre in a couple of minutes.
The bed was very comfortable, and the shower was great! Coffee machine in room also fantastic. I enjoyed my stay here and wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Enyoyed just a three night stay here. Very smart compared to what I have been used to, but pricier too. The breakfast was around €13, and parking was a reasonable €6/day. I figured out how to access the free wifi, but my colleague ended up getting charged for his.

Access to Airbus by car is swift. Without a car, I think you are looking at a couple of tram rides, or a taxi. 15 minutes walk gets you into the historic city centre, with all Bremen has to offer.

Pretty much everything seemed to be working as it should, but I didn't manage to figure out how to activate the alarm clock via the TV: I set the time but it wouldn't activate. Front desk provided the back-up call.

The windows are pretty effective at muting the sound of the railway line. I'm generally a light sleeper, and I managed to sleep soundly on two nights, but was woken by the trains a few times on the third night.

I would be happy to stay here again, but might seek a room on the West side, despite the rooms facing East offering a fine view of the city skyline at dawn.
