We stayed here for a 50th birthday party including tickets to a show in the neighboring theatre.
Our Deluxe room on the top floor of the obviously brand new hotel had some nice touches like the drain in the shower inconspicuously built into the floor and a half open translucent glass wall between bath sink and toilet. Unfortunately the mattress wasn’t as good as we’d hoped – and we wondered why a new hotel hadn’t invested more in the quality of what for most guests is the most important element in a hotel room.
We had a nice view of the Weser river and of the beautiful green lawn area that had obviously just been finished. A rather strange decorative wall between the two large windows limited our view somewhat.
In addition to a selection of magazines available in the room (which simply took up space for us and which we stacked in the corner), we had the neat opportunity to access papers and magazines online – at last recognition of the rapidly increasing use of e-media – and thankfully didn’t experience the problems with wifi that others have mentioned here. Perhaps our connection was good because the hotel wasn’t fully booked?
We took a walk with the group of friends to the old part of Bremen, a good 20-minute walk but mostly directly on the river and thus free of traffic. A truly wonderful special aspect of this Steigenberger is the attached theatre, where we saw the very entertaining show Move by a group of acrobats, musicians, and performers from Kiev: variety theatre in its best form. And of course the wonderful extra for those who took advantage of the weekend disco after the show was the very short walk back to the room.
The buffet breakfast was fine, even though the breakfast room seemed a bit small for the size of the hotel – and cool January weather didn’t allow for anyone to breakfast outside comfortably. At least we didn't have to wait since our group had reserved several tables in advance. We especially appreciated the made-to-order omelettes as well as the delicious coffee and cappuccino, which we could serve ourselves directly from the high quality Francke Evolution super-automatic machine.
The planners seem to have made the right decision to include a theatre to attact tourists who might otherwise have chosen a weekend in a hotel in the middle of town. Conference visitors no doubt keep the hotel full during the week.
We'll be curious to see how the area around the hotel develops and would certainly consider an encore stay especially when a theatre evening is included.
