“College dorm room”
Reviewed 26 October 2013 via mobile

The bare bones essentials and shell of a building have the feel of a dorm room.

The rooms are tiny with tiny beds and the tiniest cover I've ever seen. No top sheet. The towels are tiny too. No wash cloth. No shampoo.

They seemingly have 1 iron for the entire hotel and they've been trying to find it for me for a full day. (I'm still here and waiting as I write this...) You have to go to a special "ironing room" to use it. Apparently someone took it.

We ate breakfast and dinner at the restaurant and the food was fine/adequate.

I hopefully will never stay here again but at least the place is clean.

Stayed here for a conference late October
Lovely location by the temp liner see and nice places to walk but didn't have much time to look around
Seems tone a lot of water sports and team building activities
The congress facilities are good. But agree with another reviewer that the glass walls contributed to some of the presentations looking washed out , not all the blinds were utilised
Breakfasts lovely , lunch and dinners a bit more Average
Room was adequate was in D block could here nearby trains
Only one pillow provided could rent more!
No tea and coffee facilities , very disappointing
Staff were good and fluent in English and well versed on local Tavel and places to see
Overall stay was fine but this hotel is geared toward the conference market

Stayed 6 nights 14-20 October 2013.
Overall this is a very nice hotel in a nice location – many other reviewers have adequately covered this aspect of the hotel.

Our room – Building C Room 336 – was well furnished and clean. The bathroom lacks a bath tub, but the corner shower was a tad larger than most I have found in Europe. The counter surrounding the sink had adequate space. In addition to a hair dryer there was a normal outlet next to the hair dryer – my wife uses a curling iron and needs an electrical outlet.
There is a large amount of closet and cabinet storage space and more than a few hangers. A handy narrow shelf runs along the wall opposite the foot of the bed for additional temporary storage.

The room does not have air conditioning – a negative for many Americans. Ventilation can be had by opening the door to the patio – the door is hinged both from the side and the bottom. We kept the top of the door open at night for ventilation, but could hear the not too distant ICE trains passing frequently.

The room lacks a tea kettle and service. This was a disappointment for such a nice quality hotel.

Apparently due to numerous complaints – in this forum alone – the hotel now offers free WiFi but at a throttled down bit rate. For 5 Euro you can get a bit more speed and for more Euro more speed. In my assessment, the free WiFi is not worth what you paid for it. Other than being slow, it was unreliable in that it seemed to come and go; this both via wireless and connected via Ethernet.

The daily buffet breakfast was very nice – this seems to be a unanimous opinion in this forum. I also had the lunch buffet each day as part of the conference fee. Many attending the conference praised this meal as well, while I thought it was just OK. One night, my wife & I treated friends to a dinner in the hotel’s a la carte Lemon restaurant. I thought the food was nothing special, but the prices were a tad high.

Two much better dining options are nearby: the Boothaus Seekrug (mentioned in another review) and a surprise find Marker Bowling Alley. Don’t be fooled by the name, this is not a bowling alley that serves food, but a restaurant that also has a small bowling alley. The Marker Bowling Alley is visible from the bus/tram stop and recommended. We ventured there one night as the Boothaus was closed due to an illness.

The conference facility was nice. The lecture rooms I attended had too much glass: walls and ceiling. This means the presentations are washed out due to excessive light, and worse, the rooms heat up uncomfortably when filled to near capacity. The beverage and snack service during the breaks was excellent – although not many were hungry after a buffet breakfast and another buffet for lunch.

I would certainly return for another conference, but as suggested by other, would request a room with a view of the Templiner See.

First of all this hotel makes a great impression with its very spacious lobbies, interesting modern architecture and a display of memorabilia related with the Zeppelin Dirigible. It was built as a congress and training centre, but it turns out to be a very interesting option for families wanting to stay in Potsdam or a short train ride away from Berlin. The modern steel-glass-concrete architecture may not be to everyones taste, but the Germans have a knack for cosiness (which they call "gemuetlich"). In my opinion the building achieves both minimalistic elegance and real comfort. The rooms are very comfortable and well designed. As a family of five we had no problems to fit ourselves conveniently - we were there during a heat wave, so the only lack we observed was some form of ventilation. The service is impeccable. The breakfast was very good. Pricing was surprisingly low.

This hotel is located just by the lake (Templiner see). The view from the window to the lake is awesome. It is nice to walk around this hotel property, along the lake shore. In Fall, the surrounding is perfect for jogging, especially when you are tired after attending meetings/seminars. Its location is far from the center of Potsdam. This hotel is good for conferences or meetings, but not quite right for family.
The breakfast is excellent in this hotel. The bed room is simple but nice and clean. The drawback is no free wi-fi in room. Guests can buy voucher for connecting to the internet, but it will be more attractive for the guests if hotel also providing free wi-fi connections.

Room Tip: Choose rooms with the view to the lake..

The architecture of building is very interesting, keeping in mind the genius loci of this location (hotel is locaded in area, where airships' were based in 1930s). The natural surroundings of Templiner see attracts one to take stoll or even some jogging. The location itself is quite off the city but the public transport service (tram, bus and regional train) is good, with terminus Bahnhof Pirschheide being located less than 3 minuts from the hotel entry. Trains on nearby tracks are sometimes quite noisy but I had no problem with it as normally living in the city center.

The architects were not sparing with space for entry halls and long corridors while rooms are more minimalistic with a little space left. The staff was okay and friendly. Only but quite important minus for this hotel is absolutely overpriced Internet. I always thought that it shuld be the standard for hotels of bussiness type to provide it for free for guests. The price 15 € / 24 hr. is hardly unbelivable and consider it to be a black splodge of this hotel.
