Wonderful new design hotel in Hamburg - a block from the Alster in the very Hip St. Georg district. Incredible attention to design detail; wonderfully appointed rooms - with a fantastic restaurant and great roof top deck overlooking Hamburg and the Alster. A quick walk to restaurants and bars and the U-Bahn/S-Bahn at the central station. A wonderful place to stay in Hamburg!

I booked the hotel last minute, and was initially pleasantly surprised. I had a room on one of the upper floors with a terrific view on the Alster. The room was nicely designed and had everything one expects in that kind of hotel. However, it was located directly next to the elevator which made sounds that resembled a distant vacuum cleaner and would have driven me mad if I wouldn't have taken my ear plugs with me. The front desk's response to mentioning this problem was a helpless smile.
All in all it was okay to stay there, but it will certainly be conquered by people with too much money and too little taste sooner or later, as it was already visible when comparing the expensive cars in front of the door to the type of people hanging out in the lobby...

Lastminute booking just before easter - somewhat expensive. We had great weather and could experience superb view over the Alster. We had a small room on the 6th floor, just next to the spa, which was ok.

The st. Georg area was very diverse and has lots of small shops, galleries and very good value restaurants. Walking distance to the centre and central station.

Special interior - not your typical business hotel.
Remember to put your "do not disturb sign up" - they will enter the room at 7 am otherwise.

The staff was friendly and english speaking - parking is difficult in the area - but you can rent a parking space under the hotel for a small fee.

You can have an extended breakfast at the hotel or just have coffee and a very basic breakfast. The area has several places with good breakfast also.

We would choose this hotel or another one in this area the next time.

Wireless and ipod/iphone support was perfect and included.

Firstly, as the hotel is so new, the taxis are difficult to take to the hotel. It's in the St George area. The hotel staff hardly speak English and the bar staff are terrible. You wait for ages for a drink or food and to be honest, it's overpriced. The rooms are okay with contemporary furniture. However, why oh why are there no double duvets, it's 2 single duvets for a double bed? Very very strange.

When you have a shower, the water goes all over the bathroom. One aspect to note is that if you get a room next to the lift, you will hear it all night.

All in all with the lack of English speaking people in the hotel, spend your money and stay elsewhere.

The front reception staff never treat you with respect.

Terrible..

We booked a weekend rate at this rather new property, member of designhotels, for 135 EUR for a S size room including breakfast. Here are our pros and cons:

Pros:

- Nice location in St. Georg district, an area full of restaurants, shops and clubs. One one block away from the Aussenalster. Bus stop (M6 - running frequently and connecting to hotel with the Central Station and Airport Express train) right outside the door.
- Well presented breakfast.
- Small, but cozy room.
- Nice bath amenities.
- Free W-LAN internet access.
- Some nice design touches.

Cons:

- Not much of a view: either onto a hospital complex or onto neighbouring buildings. Only the Alster side of very top floors may have a nicer view.
- Most of the front desk staff were unable to greet and preferred to stare at their monitors.
- Restaurant too small for breakfast guest at peak times.
- Bathroom door unnecessarily narrow so that you will have to enter the bathroom a little sideways if you are larger than Kate Moss.
- No shower partition, just some wall diving shower and bathroom meaning flooding on the bathroom floor.
- The deep-pile large sling designer carpet will be home of toenails and worse things in no time.

Would we return? Yes, of course. But only at a competitve rate.

I stayed in the hotel, the first week it was open. Hadn't officially opened yet, and many parts were still under construction. The cab driver had no idea where the hotel was...

The location is good, near the lake and trendy quaint neighborhood; the walk to subway was about 1k in either direction. Room was very stylish and clean and luxurious.

The problem was that on Friday night there was a private party in the bar. In room on first floor, the music was thumping through floor until taxi arrived for airport at 4am. So I got no sleep all night before long flight home!

Travellers to Hamburg

effectively, you have two choices to stay in great hotels this great town -
a) 4 Jahreszeiten or Atlantic - pay a hefty 200 Euro plus
b) a new released Design hotel - @ a meager 120 euro.

WE LIKED IT - for the following reasons:

Its New
you can see this is good as it means that little wear and tear is showing in the rooms and in the public area, that in itself is nice.

The Hotel is Cool
They call the design "British" - as we are from London, i am not sure what that means, but looking e.g. at the Bar/Breakfast area, its nice, clean, inviting and practical.

Staff is Friendly
This company and its employees really try hard to make you feel good and welcome there. I think they understood that Service means first of all, friendly folks who have a smile and call you by name and sell you a cappuccino for 3.50 and get you the croissant for free, not making a fuss, nice, welcome, confident!

Rooms are OK sized
here is the crux, that if you spend 120 Euros you do not get a suite or overly sizeable room; its just right and with two folks in there, its a bit tight, yes.

Summary
its location is a bit off from shopping, but a short taxi ride for <10 Euros gets you where you want to be. We liked it and will stay there again.

feedback appreciated
