“lots of steps for a great view!”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

with one ticket (7€) you can visit the crypt and the tower, where you can chose to go up by the lift of by stairs. After 453 steps you will see the city from 132 meters, and it's a very beautiful reward to your efforts!

“Nice view on top of the tower!”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

If you want a panoramic view of Hamburg city and don't want to climb on steep stairs, you can visit this church as they have a lift going to the top of the tower. The views on top are simply amazing and breath-taking.

They also have an access to St. Michael's crypt. I think there's nothing special in that crypt but the vaulted cellar is also a good place to visit and have some photos. ;)

“Beautiful church with great city views”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

The Church of St Michael is quite distinctive in its silhouette. Its rounded spire sports a clock. It is one of the largest Lutheran churches of Hamburg and therefore should be part of your itinerary. It is dedicated to the archangel Michael.A big statue of Michael slaying the Devil stands above the Church's front entrance and inside the church too, one finds similar figurines. The interior of the Church is magnificent in every way.White and gold feature prominently in its interiors and provide a wonderful contrast to the darkly, ornate pews.

You can take the lift or stairs up to the top of the Church steeple for a fee.I thoroughly recommend doing so, as you get panoramic views of the city, especially of the River Elbe, Elbe Philharmonic Hall, Speicherstadt and the Docks. A statue of Martin Luther stands to the left of the Church, might be of some interest to those who are interested in prominent, historical figures.

“Nice views from the top”
Reviewed 19 June 2014

The place is beautiful and stands in an amazing location. The place cannot be missed in Hamburg. The church in itself is beautiful but along with that also provides with an amazing view of the city from its top. There is no entrance fee for the church but to reach the top, you have to pay an admittance charge which is not much but is totally worth it for the beautiful view you get.

“Hamburg's Most Beloved Landmark”
Reviewed 18 June 2014

It's looming brown dome and clock tower beckon out to greet all who visit the fair city of Hamburg. You can't miss it - you wouldn't want to... It has old-world charm, nouveau renaissance appeal, and a bold uniqueness that sets it apart from all the other chuch towers that are sprinkled in cityscapes of Hamburg and most every other European city. From a distance, it is impressive, but up close, it is a wonder. It is an architectural masterpiece, and, of course, it is a functioning church, with a massive organ, striking bells, and a spiraling tower which you can climb to get one of the best views of the entire city of Hamburg, the Elbe, the Alster, and beyond. If you ever get a chance to experience a concert here, please go - you will not be disappointed. Due to its beauty, its welcoming location, its command of the skyline, and its honored spot in Hamburg's heart, I think locals as well as visitors would agree that St. Michaelis is truly Hamburg's Most Beloved Landmark.
