I was very surprised to find this in Hamburg - I had expected a bland industrial city. The Jungfernstieg area and a few streets (especially Neuer Wall) around it are extremely pretty. The wind can be biting but there are many designer shops and cafes to seek refuge in. The whole area is very high-end, every major brand competes for your attention, Gucci next to Chanel next to Hermes and so on. The jewellers have an amazing range of wares with 6-figure prices and half million Euro watches. Someone has money, else these shops and boutiques wouldn't survive. There are an amazing array of shops in a relatively small area. whatever you want, jewels, watches, designer lamps, bread, chocolates, shoes, hand bags, mens ware, cafes and small shopping gallerias. The surrounding water and canal-like waterways are fantastic looking. Very civilised, very clean. Apple even have a flagship store in the area too. You will find items to buy no matter what you price level and budget, but you'll most likely also drool over may more.
