This was our first time in Hamburg and did not know what to expect. We came to Hamburg after a very active two weeks and planned to only rest a few days before we began the Cunard cruise back to Brooklyn. We were very pleasantly surprised how close the Renaissance was to good shopping and wonderful walks. Close to the two city lakesl, we walked out everyday and found something new each time. The old city hall, the old post office, and wonderful restaurants. Best, were the wonderful walks around the lakes and the buildings on all the sides. If on the other hand, shopping was your thing, designer stores were all around.

Granted, we stayed around the Renaissance, but as I wrote the previous two weeks had been very active with walking holidays in the Lakes in England and the granite coast in France. That being the case, the neighborhood was going to either make or break our time in Hamburg, and I am pleased to say how wonderful our time was there.

Stayed at this hotel for one night in July. The hotel is situated in thr city center of Hamburg, which makes it perfect for quickly getting around and close to shops, restaurants and sights in the town. The room was fresh and clean and the bed was comfortable.

Excellent central location and a solid breakfast (but nothing extraordinary for a 4-star hotel).

However, the staff at reception (intern!) was not very friendly and not professional at all. Same later in the restaurant ... And the room did not smell fresh.
Also, an old TV set in the room with two English-language channels: CNN and MTV (sic!) and no French-language channels at all (no signal).

Great central location. Rooms were clean and surprisingly cool relative to European A/C standards. No free internet which was a rip off in this day and age. $12.50/day. And also I didn't get the breakfast with the room since the location of the hotel is close to some good breakfast places. There is also a Starbucks nearby. Staff was helpful and friendly. Had a few drinks at the bar. Yummy chips and good service there.

This hotel is really in a great location. There are many places you can walk to eat, and the area feels very safe & is clean. It's true they don't have flat screen TV's, but if the ones they have still work fine, who cares. Our room was fine-clean & comfortable bed-also quiet. They only have one free computer, and it's in the lobby. A child was playing games on it for a long time. We asked the front desk to talk to him (he wouldn't leave for us), and they wouldn't. When he finally got off the computer system was all in German & they said they didn't know how to change it to English. It had been in English the day before. We just needed 5 minutes to check our airline. Oh well.
