“Well located and comfortable”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

I have typically stayed at the Marriott in the ABC-Strasse when I have been in Hamburg, but this time I was working near the Chilehaus, so I wanted to stay a bit closer. The hotel is right in the center of Hamburg in the midst of several shopping streets and within a few minutes' walk of the Jungfernstieg and the Binnenalster.

Rooms are quite large by European standards and the decor is typical for a Renaissance (which is one of the more "quirky" Marriott brands, though all Marriott brands are quite consistently, and conservatively, decorated in my experience). The bed was quite comfortable and I slept as well as I ever sleep in a hotel. I stayed over a Friday and Saturday night, so the hotel was quite busy with tourists and the occasional group, though, except for one breakfast where the restaurant was full and I was sent to eat in the bar, the crowds were not really noticeable.

The breakfast buffet was very extensive, though had it not been included in my room rate, I would have gone to a nearby cafe instead. I ate dinner in the restaurant one night, and the food was tasty and not too expensive by the standards of European hotel restaurants.

The Internet worked well and the television system offers the typical range of international channels one would see in any large European chain hotel.

Stayed here in August. All as expected for a 4 star hotel, nice and tidy. Clean rooms, we got a huge room. Bed very comfortable. Lifts a bit "cosy" though. Good breakfast.
The hotel is in walking distance to everything so ideal for city visit.

Typical hotel from the Marriott chain but generally less expensive than the Marriott just around the corner. Bar area is quiet nice with a decent amount of seating and beer is a reasonable price. I didn't eat in the hotel's restaurant so cannot comment on the food. The rooms are standard and what you would expect from this chain and as such are reasonably comfortable. My room overlooked the street but was fairly quiet. Air-conditioning didn't appear to be great/easy to change room temperature so watch out if you stay in summer, although I'm sure the staff would be pleased to help if you had problems. I had a minor problem with my room on the first night and it was dealt with quickly and efficiently, even though I tried to explain the problem with my best pigeon German (the staff all speak perfect English of course). Easy to find and in a great location for the Inner Alster and the U-bahn, and only 5-10 mins away from a good steak restaurant called Block House. Additionally, if you are a trendy shopper the location couldn't be better. Grosse Bleichen has to be the most expensive shopping in Hamburg, with goods on offer at prices that would make a Russian oligarch wince. Very impressive/depressing to window shop depending on your view of capitalism. Don't bring the wife (or anyone else's) because it will cost you a fortune.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't overlook the street if you are a light sleeper

A warm welcome, and modern lobby / bar area was my first impressions when I arrived. There is a little shop available on site for those forgotten items which you need.
My bedroom was very spacious and the bed was ultra comfortable!....Bathroom was a great size.
I also used the gym. OK, theres not a lot of equipment in there, but adequate for a business trip. It's no spa, but does have a great sauna.Room service & restaurant food was excellent. Its very well located and only a very short walk (3 mins) to the huge lake area, which is beautiful in the summer months and which you anc walk or run around (9.2KM).It aslo boasts restaurants and bars overlooking the lake. Ive stayed at this hotel on 4 occassions now totalling about 15 nights approx and have not been dissapointed.
Great business hotel, great weekend hotel hotel.........In my opinion :)

The hotel is worn and smells of closed and damp. Drunken rowdy guests are admitted which is inadmissible in a hotel of anything above gutter level. You can basically hear what goes on in the rooms next to you, and with drunken guests it's impossible. I have not given it a terrible because it has a superb location, a beautiful building even if neglected and service is as usual for a any hotel in the Marriott chain great, helpful and friendly. I do however recommend it.

Stayed here in november. Just as good as expected for a 4 star hotel, nice and tidy. Clean rooms, we got a huge room, I think it was extra large in some way, highest floor. Magic beds, very comfortable. The hotel is in walking distance to everything, parking garage just across the street.
Could absolutely consider to stay here again.

Room Tip: stay in a room on the highest floor.
