“An Excellent Hotel in a Beautiful City”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

If I were to describe Hamburg I would describe it with two colors:Green and Blue! It is a beautiful city of parks, century old trees, lakes, canals and the sea. The Hotel Atlantic Kempinski, on the banks of beautiful Lake Alster is about five minutes walking distance from the main train station. The train S1 from the airport stops at this main station. The shopping streets, most of the museums and the opera house are also at a walking distance. The hop on hop off bus stop is right in front of the hotel. An architectural masterpiece renovated recently, the Atlantic has spacious rooms, comfortable beds, beautiful linens. If you intend to stay at the Atlantic be sure to have a drink at the Atlantic Bar with live piano music and to have dinner at the Atlantic Restaurant. Start the day by swimming in the pool or jogging around the 7 km lake, before you enter the Alstersalon for the breakfast buffet, which is a true feast. We had an unforgettable experience thanks to the highly professional management and staff with excellent service,

Room Tip: Book a lake view room on 3 rd floor

Great location and rooms - BUT it is the long standing Concierage that makes this Grand Old Hotel THE place to stay - there is nothing about this wonderful city hat he doesn't know . Walk round the lake in front of he hotel and stop off at one of the atmospheric bars or restaurants - bedrooms have been beautifully re modelled - no expense spared but as another reviewer has said THAT lobby carpet !!

Surrounded by great buildings and a lake.

The service was impeccable!

Prices are quite high, but if you're prepared for that it's a luxurious hotel, with great sized rooms to match.

Breakfast not bad at all, although us English do like to have HP brown sauce!

Minor downside is that the lobby carpet looks quite worn.

No problem staying here again.

You can walk to and from the train station. You'll be greeted by a top-hat wearing very nice guy who wants nothing more than to help you. We had a triple room. My husband and I took the train into Hamburg and our daughter flew in and met us there. We arrived first. The hotel went out of their way to help get her from the airport to the hotel and to our room. When she arrived in the room there was a separate bathrobe and toiletries stack specifically for her - nice touch.

We had little time in between her arrival and a tour so I bit the bullet and ordered room service. It was DELICIOUS and surprisingly affordable. I've paid more in shabby hotels for sandwiches and drinks.

It's an extremely well appointed hotel and it's fun just to walk through it. Like a destination in itself. In fact later that night, on our boat tour, the tour operator pointed out OUR hotel as a landmark.

The only drawback to this hoel is the price but... you get what you pay for. We normally don't splurge quite so much!!

Incredibly renovated this classic hotel is worth the detour. Reserve some hours at the SPA and covered pool area. Lovely breakfast buffet, remember to have a tea time with nicest sweets and try one of the best Chinese restaurants of the neighborhood! Nice spaces with high ceilings and enchanting ambiance. We really enjoyed our stay.

Very nice hotel, very close to the train station, walking distance to city center. Large room patio side totally silent, very clean. Marble bathroom also very nice. The staff is very friendly and speaks easily to customers, very nice. The Atlantic restaurant is very nice, great food, good vine, service can be a bit slow but that's what it takes to ask for fresh lobster! After the first dish I was asked if I wanted to change table to go near the window to enjoy the view, nice attention!
