“No frills rooms -- great location and value for the budget traveler”
Reviewed 16 December 2013

I sometimes travel to southern Denmark on business and always fly into Hamburg. I decided to add an extra day to my trip to see the city a bit and wanted an inexpensive hotel room near the center of the city. I found a deal for a single room here for $42USD that included breakfast. Based on reviews, it was exactly what I was expecting. It was right in the city center and blocks from the central train station. I would not recommend trying to park a car near here, space is tight and limited.

The staff was very friendly. There is not an elevator so I had to carry my bags up four flights of stairs, no bother for me. The room was small but tidy. The bed was reasonably comfortable and the bathroom was clean and the shower was nice and hot. And there was free WiFi. I ended up leaving in the morning before breakfast. The perfect place for someone looking for a simple, no-frills, inexpensive room in the center of Hamburg. I would definitely stay here again.

Right behind the Atlantic Kempinski, close to the posh shops along the Binnen Alster and a few hundred meters from the Kunsthalle, the central station and Hauptbahnhof Parking-house, we decided to try this hotel for one night. In spite of the ridiculous reviews - but at a very reasonable rate. The room had a very good bed, the bathroom functioned as required, there were plenty of hangers in the wardrobe. And of course, everything had been in the room for quite a while and seen plenty of use. Just as expected. - The real surprise came in the morning, when downstairs a very good breakfast buffet was available, including hot eggs and bacon, several juices etc. The smartly dressed staff was attentive and tables were cleared, cleaned and set as quickly as possible. - All in all, if you get a room at a decent rate and really only need a bed and breakfast, this old place is not as bad as all that.

this is one of the most horrible hotels in Hamburg. there was verz much dirt, and the bed's are terrible.

we went to the other hotel fürst bismarck after one night.
the breakfest are also very bad like all of the other stuff in this hotel.

the pictures of the rooms in the hotel is not the same as them in real life.

Room Tip: do not take the 5th of 4th floor!

I've never left a bad review for a hotel but this really was a horrible experience.
I was in Hamburg for a conference so booked three nights in the hotel. The first night, cigarette smoke from my neighbours room clouded my own so much I couldn't breather. The windows don't open. The walls are paper thin so you hear everything from people coming up and down the stairs to people talking next door.
The room was tiny, worst than student accommodation and hostels I've stayed in!
I asked to switch room because of the noise but they said they had o cleaners around so this wasn't possible.
Breakfast food was ok.

Avoid!

Room Tip: I would avoid this place. But if you can't I would recommend a room on the top floor so you'...

Stayed for 4 nights & NEVER again. The stairs r a problem, they r like going up/down a very narrow lighthouse. If you r quite unfit/ have a heart defect/ or use inhalers(I use 1 and needed it regularly) then this is not the place for you!! Our shower ceiling leaked from the shower above (they did sort this in the morning). our toilet didn't flush properly, we ended up using the shower to flush it! The breakfast room isn't big enough to cope with the amount of guests staying-we had to Q whilst waiting for a table. Breakfast was a simple affair but o.k. The T.V's r very small & old but we didn't go there to watch it. The rooms r not very soundproof especially if your on the 3/4 floor then you will hear lots of heavy breathing from people trying to reach their rooms before they pass out! The cleanliness wasn't up to any standards - we had a dirty cotton wool bud stuck on r phone & very stained carpets (take slippers). Ideal location for getting round Hamburg as the train station is a 5 min walk away & even pulling your cases this distance, over some cobbled streets, isn't as strenuous as lugging them up those stairs, we dreaded going back to the hotel after a day out as our legs were aching & the stairs just finished us off!! Find a different hotel, there are lots about.

Stayed here for one night in February. I wanted something close to the Hamburg Hauptbahnhof, and the Hotel Aachener Hof was a short walk away. The intersecting streets where it is located is very charming. Staff was quite nice.

There is no elevator, but no big deal. It is only four stories high. I had a nice, quiet room on the third floor. Really good size room, comfy bed, and huge windows that opened up to a nice neighborhood view. Bathroom was really good.

I had a couple hours of free time, so I explored Hamburg by foot, which is very easy from this hotel. The sights are nearby, and it certainly helped that I was there during a gorgeous sunny winter day.

Breakfast is in their main level room - a little dark and cramped, with slightly limited options, but they had just what I needed for a quick breakfast before a train trip.

Looking for a clean, safe hotel near the train station? You would be very hard pressed to find a hotel that provides this level of quality at a great rate.

Certainly value for money. I had a fine breakfast and the hotel is located in central Hamburg. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Parking is a bit problematic. No elevator and steep steps to 4th floor...

Room Tip: Parking is problematik
