We only spent one night here due to a wedding.
The rooms are okay but nothing special. Feels a bit outdated.
The wellness area didnt blow me away either. The area has a cold feeling to it. The stralsund hotel(see my other review) had a much better atmosphere.
The breakfast was really good with much to offer and very friendly employees.
The staff at the reception was also very friendly.
I didnt give the hotel 4 stars because it is quite expensive. Instayed at the hagenbeck hotel in hamburg as well and i would chose that one over the grand elysee for a future stay in a hamburg hotel.

Stayed for 2 nights - weekend trip. From outside the hotel looks really great, but inside the hotel is a bit old for me, reception area etc doesn't apeal at all. The same with a Standard room, good size, very clean, but the curtains and furniture is a bit old fashioned.
The breakfast is good, you have eveything you wish from freshly squeezed juice, fruit to local specialities like pickeled harring and german wurst...
Visited Spa, there were enough beds for relaxation, good sauna's, but again everything is old fashioned and doesn't give a fresh impression.
The location is a bit too far from the center.
Overall it was a good stay, but I would not go there again and would not advise this hotel for younger people, it is more suitable for grandparents...

I stayed at Grand Elysee hotel for 10 days during my last visit to Hamburg in August 2014. I have booked one of their large suites which consists of a living room and a bed room with huge full bathroom and one small guest toilet; Here are the positive and negative comments:

Positive:
The room size and the size of the bathroom were resonibly big
The breakfast was very good with an egg station and many selections
The staff at reception and concirage were very friendly and helpful
The lobby was very big with many chairs for waiting or meeting friends
The spa is was great with medium size indoor pool and many other facilities
The hotel is very close to a train station (Dammtor station)

Negatives:
The balcony at the room had many huge spiders specially at night time which makes it difficult to open
The bed consists of two twin beds attached to each other and the pillows were not comfortable.
The additional beds that was brought to the room were very small and not comfortable
The old wing rooms doesn't have air-condition and the new wing rooms air-condition gets hot at night

I have explained the above said negative points to the hotel staff but they could not resolve it during my stay

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the new wing, it is bigger and the furniture are much better

I stayed at the Grand Elysee Hotel during a business trip to Hamburg recently, my 10 day stay was outstanding in every respect.
The ambience of the hotel is wonderful as are the staff, restaurants and bar, the hotel is not cheap but if you want to indulge yourself this is the place to do it. The art collections on display throughout the hotel are something to behold and a great credit to the owners who have allowed these to be shown in their hotel.
The hotel is located in an area close to gardens, lake, rail station and a pleasant 20 minute walk into Hamburg City centre.
Stay....you won't be sorry.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms overlooking to the university grounds or park

A very good hotel. Made a very late reservation through bookings.com, arrived by car in the middle of the night. Helpful and professional staff all the way, a gentleman in the hotel garage even followed me to fifth floor to show me my room.

Excellent room standard, also. Will be back for sure.

Stayed: July 2014
