“Amazing water-slide”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2012

I stayed a night here with my five year old. I didn't see much of Hamburg in the end: the water-slide, and the pool more generally, was pretty incredible. Also, a nice old-fashioned piano bar, and a great breakfast. Quite cheap as well. Had a happy stay.

This was my second stay at this hotel, both being on business. The hotel is comfortable enough with a mix of guests including families as this we stay was within school holidays. Despite my worries to the danger of noisy children the hotel remained quiet overnight. Location could not be better for fly being next to the central train station and a quick train from the airport. Hotel checkin ticket also provides free transport within Hamburg for the duration of your stay, perfect for those exploring Hamburg.

I didn't bok the hotel myself, but joined a group of 16 poeple from abroad. The hotel is really big, but still cosy and therefore very well suitable for travelling in groups - either busniess or leisure. The staff at the check-inn was a 5-star-team. Amazing - as with big groups there are sometimes a few hassels, but they dealt with everything and with a smile. Breakfast is perfect as well. The rooms in the older part of the hotel are definitely not 4-star, but still clean.

Plus:
+ very central, close to main station
+ very friendly staff
+ great breakfast - really impressive
+ free Wi-fi
+ especially suitable for groups
+ it is quiet, even though it is right where the action is
+ nice spa with sauna
+ well-organized parking service
+ nice traditional restaurant inhouse (basement)

Minus:
- Rooms in the old part are a bit outdated and not modern

Room Tip: You have to get a new, renovated room. The ones in the old part of the building are outdated.

Placed in the mittle of the city, you would expect some noice from the streets, but there where none.
Very nice wellness departement.
Staff commitment and attitude could be better.
Anyway we got a free room update with bathtop at arrivial.

I stayed at the hotel beginning of February for business reasons, the location is ideal but this is the only it has, rooms were very poor for the rate I had to pay (not value for money) breakfast was good, the shift leaders at the reception have forgotten how is to smile to a client.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbishment room, not something perfect but defenitely much much better than the old one...

The hotel is perfectly located for a Hamburg City Break or for business as it is accross the road from the Main Station. The staff was very good and helpful. Room was adequate size for the price. Breakfast was excellent with a wide selection. The swimmingpool was good for relaxing in the morning.
No free Wifi in rooms. Only german TV (except CNN and BBC).

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 January 2012

I stayed one night on 1 January 2012 whilst passing through Hamburg and I'd go back.

Pros:
- Location. Directly opposite Hamburg Hauptbahnhof so if you're travelling by train it's perfect. I left reception at 09:01 and was standing on Platform 5 for the train to Copenhagen at 09:03. No exaggeration. Couldn't be closer.
- Room. Was in 238. It was great. I received a free upgrade to a Comfort category room which was very welcome. A separate sitting area, a walk in wardrobe and changing area, big clean bathroom, comfy bed. Slept well.
- In room safe
- Free wi-fi worked well
- Clean. Not modern in a new trendy way but the fixtures and fittings weren't tired, nothing was chipped or dirty and everything worked.
- Spa / pool / sauna / water slide. I used all of these facilities and they were great. Three separate saunas - 90, 75 and 55 degrees, plunge pool, steam room, swimming pool, spa, rest area with comfortable lounges, clean modern changing rooms and a long water slide that's great fun. There's also simulated golf and a gym on the top floor but I didn't use them.
- Breakfast. A wide selection of hot and cold. Up to standard breakfast buffet for a four star hotel and included in the room tariff.

- There's also a restaurant on site but didn't go there for dinner.

Cons:
None for me. The hotel has I think been substantially modified over the years (in the same family ownership for nearly 100 years) and if you had mobility problems stairs in some areas might be tricky. But lifts were fine and everything was great for me. Red light district is behind the hotel but it's tame.

Recommended for an overnight stay or a longer stay in Hamburg.
