This is Scandinavian at its best. Modern, simple and practical. Good location, everything in walking distance. Large parking facilities in garage floor. Excellent breakfast with a wide variety of organic foods.

This is a very new hotel and the room felt fresh and light and spacious. The reception staff were very helpful. Close to a train which was great and a short walk to a shopping area with some great restaurants. Some nice little bakeries nearby. Nice bar/lounge area. I would definitely stay there again. Good for families, mature travellers and those not wanting to be too in the heart of the Reeperbahn.

I have used the Scandic hotels chain a lot before on business, and picked this hotel for a two-nighter in Hamburg just because I know that Scandic's hotels are mostly very new and clean and everything works. In other words didn't bother to scout long time for some random hotel but picked something I was familiar with, especially when their room rate was very competitive for their frequent guest member program (to which you can join online can get the benefits immediately). At least now the membership program's main advantage was probably the free breakfast, which surprisingly is not included in the regular room rate...

The hotel itself is new and hence everything works, and is very clean and so forth. The design is up to normal Scandic standards which means a simplistic approach to everything - calling it an Ikea hotel (like some have done) is too much, but the design philosophy draws from the same Nordic simple idea. It's not a hotel with a lots of small things here and there, it's really stripped down to bare minimums (in the name of eco-friendliness, but it's a cost cutting measure really - but nothing wrong there, since it's all the same for me if I get my soap for the shower in one big box from the wall or from three miniature bottles provided daily...).

The location of the hotel is okay, it's close to an U-bahn station (and not too far from a line that directly connects to the airport). Our room was located in the very corner of the building and the views were only to the neighbouring office tower, so the fully windowed walls to two directions didn't have much use. But the room was basically quiet. However I was surprised that the walls and structures seemed to be surprisingly thin for such a new building - at late evening I could easily hear the conversation and laughs from the next room. And the room door mechanisms could use some dampening too, since when ever someone closed their room door without slowing it down it really banged shut and shook the whole interior wall ... These minor things said, cannot really complain on the sleep quality (other than German fans driving all night and honking horns since they just won the World Cup!! Weee!!!! :D ...the hotel had a nice set up for viewing the matches in the restaurant by the way.)

Breakfast was really good, much better organized than in Berlin's Scandic for example (where we also stayed). Not too much people at any given time, plenty of choice and also a chef who could whip up an omelette if you wanted.

The in-room safe was too small to hold a 15" laptop. Also the wifi required a re-login always if the connection was idle for more than 1-2 hours - annoying (but the connection itself was good and fast, and more importantly fast). The wifi login had also some troubles (redirecting me back to the login page all the time) but solved them myself (the login system is poorly designed really..). No minibar service (really, who needs it?) - it was empty and provided a good place to store own drinks in cool place.

So if you get a competitive room rate, the Scandic hotel is in my mind always a safe choice without too much thinking since they have a clear concept and their hotels stick to it pretty well. Nothing luxurious or unexpected specials in any way but it was pretty much what I expected (would give 4.5* if that would be an option), so would use them again for sure.

Hej dear guest,
thank you very much for your extensive feedback about your stay at our hotel. First of all we are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay and would come back another time.
You mentioned that you know what to expect from the Scandic hotels and yes we do have the same concept in our hotels to provide the same services at different places for our guests. We would like to add however, that every hotel has its own and unique design. Since we are in Hamburg the design theme water was chosen and incorporated in the style of the hotel. You find many details throughout the hotel which reflect that theme like the blue lights in the elevator that go lighter when you ascend or the lamps in the restaurant which represent bubbles under water.
All of these design elements are unique and cannot be found in any other Scandic hotel.

There is one more aspect of your feedback where we would like to add something. You say that you are fine with the sustainability concept but that it is a only a cost cutting measure. This is not completely true. Yes we do save money when we save water and energy use in the hotel. But on the other hand we are not sustainable because it saves money. We have a lot of expensive measures as well, to go in hand with our sustainablity concept. For example we only sell fair trade coffee wich is more expensive than normal coffee and in the rooms we only used natural and high quality materials so that they may last long, are allergy friendly and can be recycled. No cheap colors or materials are used, that might harm the environment. So yes we do save money with some measures but a sustainable conecpt is rather a question of responsibilty than money.

We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the World Cup at our restaurant at the big screen and also enjoyed the breakfast there. Hopefully we can welcome you again another time.

With kind regards,

Tobias Albert

Best thing in Scandic chain is that you usually know what you will get. There are some next-to-motorway Scandic hotels in Scandinavia. After visiting some of them, this upscale hotel in the heart of Hamburg exceeded my expectations. Clean and cozy atmosphere with nice surfaces: tile and wood, not wall-to-wall carpeting. Large, spacious rooms with large windows. Noticed that there is also possibility for connecting rooms. Breakfast room quite crowded on Sunday morning, but functioned well. Breakfast was typical Scandic with local twist.

Despite of its central location, very quiet. Walking distance to shopping district, underground station just outside the hotel.

Only disappointment was the air conditioning that was not very effective during hot days of July.

Would definetely recommend for stay in Hamburg.

Me and my family stayed here for 2 nights during a mini vacation this July. We have stayed at other hotels in this excellent city and Scandic Emporio is the best so far. Why?

- Professional service
- Polite staff
- Clean, modern and proper rooms
- Excellent garage for our car with elevator
- The continental breakfast met my expectations with good margin

Emporia also lies in a quiet part of Hamburg but only a 10 min walk to the city centre. The outside of the hotel was excellent with sofas and an outside bar.

We´ll be back

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the higher levels with a view of the Hamburg TV tower.

Scandic Emporio is a modern scandiavian styled hotel. I really like it, simple and clean. The parking cellar was full, but the receptionist guided us to a public parking close to the hotel. Our room was nice and clean. Windows from wall to ceiling, looks great. They have decent training facilities and a large sauna. Both the bar, outside lounge and breakfast area is nicely decorated. A breakfast with a lot of varieties, nothing to complain about. It was a bit crowded and stressful during breakfast, but taken in consideration that it is a large hotel, summer and it was just before 10, one could not count on anything else. The hotel is located close to many of Hamburgs important attractions. Would I stay here again? Definitely:)
