“Great value, better in inside than out, well located”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

You definitely need Sat-Nav to find this hotel, and when you do you will an unattractive building in the heart of a run down neighbourhood. But if you can get past these, you'll find a great value hotel that has many attributes to recommend it.

The hotel is down a side-street off one of the main routes into Hamburg centre - to get to the centre by car, go to the end of the road and turn left and keep going. Going right at the same junction takes you quickly to the Autobahn network. There are also good bus and u-bahn links nearby.

The outside of the hotel is pretty unattractive - but looks like they were doing some renovations / remodeling when we were there, so perhaps it will be better soon. Inside though you find a nicely furnished relatively modern hotel with good atmosphere and friendly staff. The rooms are pretty spacious with the usual German hotel TV with only CNN in English on offer. The hotel offers wifi but we found the system was not the best, with poor signal strength and not so fast. There is a small bar attached to the hotel that serves snacks and drinks until quite late - though after some hour (we think 10pm) the only food offered in the bar is pizza.

Breakfast was good, with plenty of things to eat and OK coffee from a machine. Avoid the jugs of coffee they put on the table - not sure what it actually is, but not great coffee...!

Two things to watch out for: the road outside (which is through an industrial area) has quite a lot of heavy goods traffic even into the night, and this made the room noisy when the window was open. But there is no air-conditioning in the room (that we could locate anyhow) and so on hot days you really need the windows open...

Overall very good value for money, and if you can live with the look of the place, a good place to stay.

Room Tip: There is car-parking behind the hotel, but it is quite expensive. There is plenty of parking spaces...

Got a great deal for a one night stay at this place. OK, it's a bit out of the centre and in a quiet location but it's on the bus route into HBF and only a 10 min walk from the U Bahn. It's does look a bit rough from the outside, but inside it's modern enough and the rooms are clean, well kitted with flat screen Sky TV, kitchen area, modern bathroom and very comfortable beds. The breakfast area and the food for breakfast was excellent also. I have paid 4 times as much as stayed in worse hotels.

This is one of the better value hotels in Hamburg. It's not exactly in the city center but it is quite easy to get to/from via the bus. My room had a smokey smell but it was OK after opening the windows. There aren't many restaurants or supermarkets around, though there is a gas station to buy from which is convenient. I went there only for sleeping and it was even more convenient that they let me check out at 13:00 considering I returned to the hotel at 7:00 after a big night out. The late check out sealed the positive experience for me.

Room Tip: Great hotel for those on a budget. Otherwise, Hamburg has one of the most expensive hotels.

Located relatively near to the Autobahn, gives easy access to the hotel.
It is very close to Süderstrasse, and also very close to public transportation.
The city centre is reached within a few minutes.
Rooms are spaciuos, and the staff are heartly service-minded. They've got a cosy bar, and I am returning here again, on business or leisure.

The good points
Good price
Refurbished lobby area
They agreed a 12am check in
Excellent free wifi

The bad points
The style, excluding the lobby, was of a 60s Soviet high rise
The room pictures are well taken, it's much grimmer in reality
The kitchen area is not seperate, just part of a normal size hotel bedroom. I was expecting more from an apartheid, this was a hotel room with a microwave and sink
The room SNANKED of cigarettes. Despite being no smoking it had an ashtray and a note not to throw buts out of the window.
There was no air conditioning
Whilst it was not too far out it was if you used public transport. The bus stop outside took 45mins to the main tourist area. Its quicker to use the train but the bus from outside the hotel stops10mins either side of the train station

My father & I are doing a 3 week road trip around Germany and did not book any accommodation before we left but upon discovering Motels don't really exist here, we have to rely heavily on booking.com. We were not disappointed in this case and the staff were friendly and helpful. As others have said, the outside appearance which they were working on improving while we were there, does not give credit to the inside. Having a trolley & lift to take our luggage from the car park was the first blessing. Public transport into the city is easy. The room décor is very modern, compact and nice. Wi-Fi Internet was excellent. I especially appreciated having a balcony to smoke on even though cold & windy outside. My only criticism is of the 'kitchenette'. In Australia, standard room facilities from the cheapest to most expensive include fridge/freezer, tea & coffee making facilities and toaster with the crockery & cutlery required to make a light breakfast or snack. Our room had a fridge, electric kettle, 2 cups, 2 teaspoons, a sink and microwave which limits what you can make. I'm guessing most German Hotels want you to buy breakfasts and snacks from them and the ones without fridges or tea/coffee facilities definitely want you to go downstairs and pay for all drinks hot & cold. Being vegetarian and gluten free (coeliac) makes most German Hotel breakfasts bad value for me, which is why I try to book rooms with kitchen facilities.
