“My Cup of Tea”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

We had a lovely but much too brief stay. Not for those who want every modern convenience at hand but perfect for those who want a glimpse of charm and wonderful German hospitality in a beautiful setting. We felt as if we were welcomed guests of dear friends. Traveled with my two twenty something children and they were equally as charmed.

Room Tip: Our room faced the garden. I understand the rooms on higher floors are more gracious but we had to...

I am told that this area where hotel Mittelweg is situated is one of those which was not destroyed in the 2nd WW by the allied forces, and that is how its fantastic villas, buildings, mansions and other beauties are still there. Mittelweg-59 is one of them. With 30 rooms maintained in a classical style it feels good to stay there. The rooms are small, compact and with bare essentials. The staff is smiling and welcoming, The breakfast is good and lively. Parking facilities are OK, and the nearby lake area is rejuvenating. Very posh area, but the hotel is reasonably priced - nice.

Room Tip: If you can avoid getting a room on the main road side, you will avoid a lot of traffic noise through...

Got relocated here after the place I was booked at had over-booked itself.

It's a bit out of the way, but then taxis are cheap enough in Hamburg.

Comfortable, clean, quiet, and everyone was friendly. Free wifi was a real bonus.

Decor is quite old-fashioned, but for a one-night business trip I just wanted somewhere clean and comfortable, which is what I got. You could do a lot worse.

Due to a family bereavement, I needed a room quickly. I have stayed in this hotel before, gave them a ring and was immediately advised that a room was available. My room was on the 2nd floor, it was comfortable and well maintained. A couple of times I had a problem with the shower, this was quickly fixed. The breakfast buffett was extensive indeed. Each table had fresh flowers which were regularly changed. The breakfast room and the rest of the hotel were beautifully decorated for Easter. All the staff were so very friendly. It is the attention to detail and the exquisit and homely furnishings that give this hotel such a lovely atmosphere. It was an absolute joy to stay there again.

Room Tip: I have had a room at the front and at the back of the hotel, I have never been disturbed by any nois...

We stayed at this beautiful old hotel in November 2010. My husband and I had a nice size room on the third floor. Our son had a small single room off the landing of the grand staircase. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are small but modern. The accommodations include a nice buffet breakfast in their dining room. The staff is pleasant and helpful. We would definitely stay here for our next visit to Hamburg.

German friends who live near this hotel made the reservations for us and did us a big favor. The rooms are decorated in a deliberately old fashioned style but with expensive furnishings. The beds, couch, and chairs were comfortable, the lighting good, and the bath area very nice. Like most such hotels in northern Europe, it is not air conditioned, but because it is in a quiet residential neighborhood, you can use natural ventilation without having street noise. We did not make many demands on the staff while there, since we spent most of our time out and about, but every request we did make was met and everyone was very nice.

The breakfasts are very good with much food and many choices. It is served in an amazing room with an elevated banquette on two sides. My wife and I enjoyed the experience each morning. The decor of the public areas is over the top with knick-knacks, but I have to admit there were so many odd decorations everywhere that my eye never grew tired. It was a bit like sensory overload with porcelain ducks and antique frames and dried arrangements and lord knows what else. If that sounds negative then I've described it incorrectly - it was actually pretty cool. The back lawn is really nice and available to guests.

The hotel is located on Mittelweg, a main north south route in a residential neighborhood called Harvestehude. It's about a ten minute walk from a Metro station and also walking distance from the Alster, the large elongated lake at the center of Hamburg that gives it a pastoral feeling in the middle of town. There are some great neighborhood restaurants within a short walk - ask around.

We'd happily stay there again.

The Hotel Garni Mittelweg is more like a family owned friendly little castle.
The is not actually a restaurant, but the breakfast romm is really something to write home about. They have a lovely choice od dishes from freshly baked rolls to home baked cakes/pastries as well as cold cuts and cheeses.
The hotel is located in one of the more posh/residential areas of Hamburg but very close to the city center as well. So if you are looking for good food in the evening several good restaurants are just a short walk away.
The staff is very friendly and helpful and go out of their way if you have a request.
Hmm, room decoration. It borders on tacky in a wonderful way, but it is somehow very homely as well.
The place is spotless clean. Morning and evening papers (German papers) are available free of charge and there are magazins scattered around the place for you to take to your room.
Valua for money is excellent.
