“One of the world's top museums”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

We were lucky to be able to visit the Kunsthalle for Nacht Museen (Museum Night) where you can visit scores of Hamburg museums until 2:00 in the morning. We've gone on a normal day as well, to compare, and the permanent and temporary exhibits in the Kunsthalle are world class. From the Old Masters collection to Modern and Contemporary works, there is something for everyone. We recently saw the Lagerfeld models exhibit and were treated to a fashion show at the Nacht Museum, so it would be great to catch this while it's still around (until late summer 2014). But whenever you get there, you will not be disappointed.

“Great”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2014

It's an awesome museum. I unexpectedly ran into 'The Wanderer Above a Sea of Fog' and sitting down admiring it was one of the very best museum-moments of my life.

“Great collection”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014

A diverse collection of classical and modern paintings, with interesting expositions. The way the paintings are presented is of high quality. For me, the building had a difficult lay out, but could find (in the end) the objects I wanted to see.

“So dull, boring, not worth it”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014 via mobile

Unless you are really into art or an art student wanting to get up close to a particular original work, this gallery is just not worth a visit for the casual tourist visitor. It is dull, boring, badly laid out, poorly signposted and most of the works poorly lit in rooms painted silly colours.
There are plenty of far more enjoyable and entertaining things to see in Hamburg.

“Old Masters worth seeing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2014

The Breughel collection alone is worth the visit (there are nine of them!). They have a fair photo policy and lighting on most pictures adequate for amateur photographers. Only down side (and it is a big one for older people like myself - mid-70s) is that gallery should have seats available in all galleries so one can study the art without discomfort.
