I stayed as a couple at the ARCOTEL Onyx last weekend. I paid € 143 for a room and when we arrived the lady behind the counter asked us if we wanted to take an upgrade to the 7th floor for an extra € 20. The room at the 7th floor was good but I doubt it was worth the extra € 20 (for which you can have two delicious cocktails at the clouds bar in the building next door :)). We did not have breakfast at the hotel but at a cafe nearby (café MAY) which has a great atmosphere and a very elaborate breakfast buffet for a great prize! All in all, good hotel.

Hamburg was just a stop on our way to Legoland in Denmark, but we don't regret choosing this hotel for one bit. The reception was great, very friendly. The rooms were more than fine, they were sublime. The first night we booked a regular room and received a junior suite. We then decided to book an extra night a couple of days later, from the superior room we booked they upgraded it with no cost to an apartment, and boy that was extremely awesome. The biggest and fanciest hotel room we've stayed in. The bathroom was bigger than our own.

This hotel was lots of fun! Clean, great staff, good location, comfy bed, free wifi. The breakfast was excellent. You can walk to the dockside area, Beatles haunts, lovely parks nearby. I would stay here again.

Our children gave me, and my wife, this trip for my birthday. Knowing my fondness for model railways they had also booked a time slot for the Miniature Wunderland (the world's largest model railway layout). Our EasyJet flight went smoothly and our small bags fitted the overhead lockers so no hanging around for luggage at Hamburg. At Hamburg airport we went to the information desk and bought our Hamburg Card. This allows 3 days unlimited travel on trains, trams, buses and ferries, covering 5 people, for a total cost of 39.90Euros! Although only two of us, it was jolly good value. We travelled to St Pauli station and our hotel was diagonally opposite on the edge of the Reeperbahn. The Arcotel Onyx is very modern and clean. The reception staff spoke perfect English and were extremely helpful, giving us maps and directions for places we were interested in. Our room was large, very clean and modern with a view over the park area. The huge bathroom was a wet room, and also extremely clean. We spent the first day at Hafen City, a modern area of Hamburg, with cafes and bars lining the river and modern buildings. We had no idea that Hamburg was such a pretty city. We had preconceived ideas that it was purely industrial, therefore we were pleasantly surprised by the charm of the place. We ate at a restaurant that evening that gave a discount on presentation of the Hamburg Card (another benefit of this card).

Breakfast was served in a building just literally next door to the hotel, whilst being a part of it. There was the usual continental breakfast plus full English breakfast, and a waffle maker. My wife started each breakfast with a large bowl of fresh cherries. Yum. Then came the reason, and the best part, of our trip. We caught a train to Baumwall station and strolled along the riverside to Wunderland. We bought our tickets and went straight in as we had a reserved time slot. Brilliant. Words cant fully do justice to this marvellous construction. There are many areas and countries laid out with trains, planes and buildings in miniature. Thousands of tiny people watch football games, dance at festivals and live in perfect replica towns and villages. There is a bank of television screens and computers that allow the staff to keep everything running smoothly. We would urge anyone, whether they like trains or not, to visit. It is a must. My wife particularly liked the airport that had planes taking off and landing. So clever!

Although only in Hamburg for a short break, we would certainly recommend it, and will definitely go back again, staying at the Arcotel Onyx. The river trip, the people, the city and of course Wunderland shouldn't be missed. Thank you Hamburg, and thank you to our children.

Room Tip: Higher floor gives better views.

We had a very nice stay in this trendy hotel. The location is good, close to the city centre and metro. Note that this hotel is located in the area known for its nightlife. The hotel room (with park view in our case) was amazing and very quiet. All areas in the hotel are spotless.
If you like breakfast in the morning, I really advise you to take it in the hotel. It is 'jummy'!
I wish we could have stayed another day :)

Extremely good value for money, great location at the start of the Reeperbahn and with StPauli U-Bahn station just across the street. A 5minute walk down to the riverside, lots of cafes and restaurants, and just very handy for exploring all the small side streets in and around StPauli. Hotel was tip-top, simple as that. Would definitely recommend. Paid just under €90 a night for the two of us which I thought was well worth it for the hotel standards.

Excellent location, next to St. Pauli and metro-station. Staff was friendly although a bit short stuffed on check-in and out. Rooms are big and nice. Free in-room wifi. Good value for money. Can recommend it.
