We had a suite and it was quite large and suited us well for the 7 nights we stayed at Le Meridien. The location is great. I could walk the Alster every day for exercise, lots of dogs, people and sailboats. There is a Gay-friendly neighborhood with coffee shops directly behind the hotel which was a plus not to mention TONS of shopping nearby. The downside...the carpets are in desperate need of cleaning/replacing throughout...the beds were like rocks...absolutely ZERO padding, not even a mattress pad...the housekeeper...bless her heart....we witnessed her using her cleaning rag...the same one she cleaned the sink and probably the toilet with...then clean the bar glasses...SAME rag. I cannot verify the toilet use but we absolutely saw her clean the sink with it which is gross enough.
The shower was big and fun (they have those shower heads that nobody uses that spray you from your torso). I would not recommend this hotel. There are other hotels with the same great location but I am betting they are cleaner and have beds instead of bricks.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a view of the Alster.

ROOMS WITH SO SO WIEV
We booked a double room with lake view. We Got a room on the third floor. And we got lake view, however with threes between us and the lake. Make sure to get a room higher then 3rd floor (there is nine, including restaurant floor).

NO FREE INTERNET
There is no fee internet, not even in reception. One Day access cost 20 EUR.

POOL OPENING TIMES
You can have breakfast from 06:30 but the pool/spa first opens at 8:00 in weekends.

RESTAURANT
Great service and great food. Remember to book a tanbe with lake view. We forgot and was seated in the back. The staff was kind enough to let us both face in the lake direction.

CLEAN ESS
Everything ok.

BREAKFAST
Buffet style. However we found out, after finishing eating, that all hot dishes (included in the price), like eggs/pancakes had to be ordered seperately with the waiter. Ups!

DESIGNER TOILETS
The Rooms comes with designer toilets which means that the only seperation form toilet to bedroom, is a thin glass door. For some this might be a privacyissue.

I spent 4 nights in this hotel with my wife and 3-years old son. The hotel is almost the best option for the price about 160$ per night. It's situated about 10 minutes walking from the main shopping area of Hamburg, 7 minutes walking from central railway station, right on the lake. The rooms are very big! Only the bathroom is about 10 sq.meters with a bathtub and a separate shower. Every day cleaning is very good. The beds are really big! For my family there were 2 king size beds and 1 standard bed for my son!
There some issues:
1. Check-in time - 15:00. We arrived to the hotel at 12:00 but there is no available room for us, so we had to leave out luggage in lobby and went to the nearest restaurant to kill 2 hours.
2. Pool time - only till 22:00. A lot of travellers sightseeing all day long and come back to the hotel by night. So you'll don't have a chance to swim in the evening.
3. The price of breakfast - 35 euro per person. Even for this hotel it's too much, in any restaurant in the citi the price of breakfast is about 10-20 euros per person.
Despite this, I would recommend this hotel for my friend.

We used Starwood points (a very generous loyalty scheme) to spend a night here on an outbound to Denmark by train from London, and back again. You can just about make Hamburg in a day.

Situated about 10-15 mins walk from Hamburg Hbf station, close to the St Georg district, and on the waterfront (if a busy street), this is a great location for traveling and yet close to the city centre (10-15 mins walk too).

The hotel is extremely well appointed with huge rooms that look like they've been refreshed very recently. The bathrooms are also huge - one of the best showers in a very long time. The room furnishings and layout are modern and perfect - and the usual comfy bed. Whether with a balcony (front, overlooking the water) or not (rear), no complaints whatsoever. However, beware the tornado of mosquitoes on an evening - don't leave windows open!

There's a bar (smoking permitted) on the ground floor and a bar and restaurant - very plush - on the ninth floor for superb views over the lake - and funky lighting. We ate in the bar area - excellent service, food (beef fillet was to die for and the burgers were home-made) and ambiance. The bar's modestly sized and so doesn't get too busy - plenty of room to relax. We avoided breakfast simply because of the prices (Euro30). However, we did try the spa pool on the ground floor which was fine (except for the businessman that wouldn't get off his mobile phone).

A delightful stay in a very, very good hotel.

Room Tip: Try for a balcony room at the front.

Situated near the lake, the hotel is about 10 to 15 mins walk from the central station, with a lot of restaurants on the way. Nice, big, clean, modern rooms with enough space for an additional bed. Staff were friendly. The wifi charges in the room are expensive, but it's good tjat free wifi and computers to use are available in the lobby.

“Le Royal Meridien Hamburg” is located within 10 walking minutes from the main train station (well – with luggage you may need to add a few minutes or take a cab). Rooms are comfortable, modern and stylish. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Stayed here with friends several times now and can recommend the hotel for private as well for business travelers.

The views of the “Aussenalster” from the rooms (and from the restaurant on the 9th floor) are exceptional. Just be aware that those rooms also face the street. Although the windows are very well insulated, you may still recognize a little bit of the street noise. In case you don’t care about the view and would prefer a more quiet room, you may want to consider requesting a room facing the city side instead of the lake view.

In a nutshell: Highly recommendable!
