We stayed at the Le Meridien Royal for two nights and it is situated on a quiet sidewalk with other hotels and residential buildings. It is a safe location with a busy two way street. It is an easy walk from the Hauptbahnhof station (10 to 15 minute walk). The hotel is trendy and modern...upscale business/leisure hotel, scented with their signature fragrance. We were very impressed with the suite room we received, it is a huge room with a business desk, sofa seating area and our two beds along with a flat screen tv. The bathroom is huge too with a bathtub and a stand up shower area. The room is modern and clean...we were in the back of the hotel facing the courtyard where it was very quiet and felt very residential. Also we went upstairs to the business center for the free internet computer usage and there is a small dining area and balcony along with business conference rooms. Outside the balcony is the view of the bay and street area and view of the city parts. There is also a lounge downstairs with huge screens and bar area...very hip and modern. The restaurant on the upper floor where you have breakfast has a breathtaking view...very nice area but expensive for breakfast..I think around EUR29! I love this hotel and hope to stay here again when in Hamburg. Hamburg is a quaint city by the water.

We spent a few days here over New Year's Eve 2008 and loved every minute of it! Our room was comfortable and modern, each floor had a different colour scheme and had really interesting lighting. Good selection of tv channels, bathroom had a really great shower and speakers in the bathroom are always a nice touch.
the minibar had complimentary drinks which were much appreciated- 2 x water, 2 x beers and 2 x soft drinks - and were refilled every day if used.
The breakfast buffet was superb with a great selection of hot and cold foods and the breakfast room had a spectacular view of the Lake. On New Year's day they had a fab buffet in the downstairs breakfast room complete with sparkling wine and an Ice sculpture.
The swimming pool was great and always quiet enough while we were there. There is also a steam room and sauna.
There is a piano bar downstairs, great atmosphere and loved the music. And the other bar upstairs had really friendly staff and the best views across the lake at night, I think it was on the top floor.
The concierge was also really helpful and overall we found the staff very polite and helpful.
The setting is great on the lake but perhaps a bit further out than other hotels but still only a leisurely stroll into the middle of the action. I would have no problem recommending this hotel and if we return to Hamburg I would love to stay here again, great value and superb service.

This is a wonderful hotel, with a perfect location within walking distance of the Hauptbahnhof, and Lange Reihe (great street loaded with restaurants). Can use free water taxi to Jungfernstieg at the base of the Binnenalster, but it is a nice walk along the water, so we never used it. The breakfast experience should not be missed, with an unbelievable view and exceptional food--you can enjoy the view of the Aussenalster without paying the higher room-with-a-view rate; book a breakfast rate, and you can skip lunch with the endless high quality food choices at the buffet. It is not the cheapest hotel, but you really get what you pay for: luxury, huge bathroom with tub and walk-in shower with total body Grohe fixtures, very comfortable beds, and hip room design. Very helpful concierge, friendly front desk, service oriented. I did not use the spa, so no opinion, but likely high quality judging from everything else. Shopping is a serious activity in Hamburg, so it's nice to return to the lap of luxury at Le Meridien. Tips: Fleetfahrt canal tour, Kunsthalle art museum, shopping, eating, and BEER. And there's always the Reeperbahn :-)

The hotel, staff, comfort, cleanliness etc., were great but I was slightly disappointed by the location. The website suggests that it is "lakeside" but only if you ignore the busy dual carriageway inbetween! Very noisy 24/7 if you want to open the balcony doors. Whilst the view of the lake from my room (6th floor) was great, I suspect the lower floors are less appealing.

Staff in all areas were great. Helpful, professional and unobtrusive. Reception were extremely helpful with both early check in and late check out. (charge for late checkout of €10 per hour - fair enough). Concierge extremely helpful with valet parking my visitors car for a day with no charge.

About 15/20 mins walk to main Hamburg landmarks.

Thank you very much for staying at Le Royal Meridien Hamburg and for taking the time to write a comment about your stay in www.tripadvisor.de. Due to the comments and suggestions from our guests, we are continually able to improve our high level of quality and service.

We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you had a very good impression of the hotel.

We are very sorry about the problems you had with the view of the alster-lake and we are also sorry about that it was noisy. The glass windows facing the Alster lake are noise proof. Further, if you do not open them, you do not hear any noise from the street.

We look very much forward to welcoming you again in the very near future. And if you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely,

I had the good fortune of spending two nights in the Meridien Hamburg. The hotel is very centrally located, walking distance from the train station and Hotel Atlantic and Lange Reihe. The lobby is gracious and throughout the hotel, decor is modern and tactful. Contemporary art by German artists grace the hallways and rooms. My room was very large, with two exposures (south and west), a separate dressing room, and a sofa/lounge chair. The amenities were not top-of-the-line but close. The bed was extremely comfortable. The hotel service was very courteous and helpful. The hotel had a decent (not outstanding) fitness center that was open 24 hours a day and a modest pool. If I return to Hamburg, I would not hesitate to stay again at Le Meridien.

The location of this hotel is fantastic, right on the waterfront, only a short walk from all the shops, bars and restaraunts downtown. The restuarant, Le Ciel, has a great view over the Alster Lake, and the food was amazing - we'd definitely dine there again, though I'm not sure I'd stay at the hotel again. We slept very badly, as the beds were so soft as to be actually uncomfortable, and the shower drain was blocked, causing water to pool all over the bathroom floor, even after we told the front desk about the problem twice it doesn't appear that the problem was addressed. It was a lovely hotel, but for three days, we spent 78 Euros in parking fees for the underground garage, which really surprised us - from such a nice hotel I would have expected complimentary garage parking, and the fact that you have to pay for it daily was omitted from the hotel's website. A very nice hotel but slightly disappointing; we'll probably try somewhere else for our next visit to Hamburg.

We do regret that the bed was too soft. We do have very firm beds and can always put a board under the bed to make it as hard as you like. Please make sure and tell us on your next stay. We would be more than happy to fulfill your wish.

Further, we are sorry about the fact that the drain was clogged. This in no way represents our high standards.

It was a pleasure to welcome you and we hope very much to be able to greet you again in the near future in order for us to persuade you of our excellent services and facilities.

If you would like to discuss the above issue any further, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
