“Cool hotel”

This is a very good place to stay in Hamburg. I extended a work trip by 2 days and was very glad I chose this hotel. It is located just opposite the main railway and bus (ZOB) station which connects with literally everywhere. The hotel also gives each guest a free city wide travel pass for your entire stay which not only saves you money but is so convenient. The make lakes are a few blocks away and its a short walk to all areas of the city. The area is very safe and clean, as is Hamburg as a whole.

The staff were very friendly and attentive. The rooms were immaculate, quiet and very comfy beds. In double rooms you get 2 x feather duvets - very good as you avoid fighting for the duvet with your partner! Great showers too. Only slight downside was our non smoking room smelt quite baldy of smoke, but im sure they would have given us another room but i didnt want to change our top floor position. There is also a massive decked roof terrace on the top floor which had great views & is accessible to all.

Many of my friends stayed at other hotels throughout the city and they weren’t a patch on this one.

Just returned from a brief three day stay at the InterCity Hotel in Hamburg. Although its price and billing say Budget Hotel, the atmosphere, room sizes and furnishings are, in my opinion, definitely above the budget range. I registered as a single, but unlike most European hotels, was given a double room. The hotel feels brand new with large elevators and wide hallways. The decor is very contemporary. The room was spotless. Didn't sample the 13 Euro breakfast. Had a little trouble finding the hotel. For those of you arriving on the Ryan Air bus from Lubeck: leave bus and go out to main street (the other side of McDonald's), turn left on Steintorplatz, go past Kunst Museum to next main intersection), turn right onto Steintorwall and walk past the Hauptbanhoff to next main intersection, hotel is on corner diagonally across the street at the intersection. Multiple U & S bahn lines leave from this station so you have immediate access to the whole city. The station also has a wide variety of fast food outlets. The hotel provides a complimentary travel card for all public transport for the length of your stay. A very nice, considerate touch. Hotel is a real bargain. Don't miss a harbour tour while in Hamburg; an hour very well spent!

My husband and I have just returned from a 3 week european trip. We stayed in five cities and we both agree that this was our favourite hotel. We were in Hamburg during a heat wave, 30-35 degree days, so the in-suite air conditioning was a real blessing. The hotel is just steps from the Hauptbahn Hof. Very easy walk with bags. And there are little bakeries and stores along the street that the hotel is on. The hotel decor is modern and fresh feeling. There is an elevator up to the rooms and wide hallways. The room itself is very clean and new. Average size. The bed was very comfortable and linens were clean and fresh. The bathroom was small but not tiny. Again, very clean, like the rest of the space. The location is great. The shopping streets and Alster Lake our an easy walk (minutes away). And, if you want to go to the harbour the train station is across the street, with a Ubahn station in it. Another great bonus is that you get a transit pass that is valid for the duration of your stay! So, you don't have to fumble with change and machines when wanting to ride the transit. We found that came in very handy. The hotel is situated on a very busy street, lots of traffic. Our room faced the busy street but, was completely quiet. We weren't bothered at all by the street noise because you couldn't hear any! We loved this hotel and Hamburg. Couldn't believe the value we received for the small price tag. Highly recommend!

Just returned from a 3 and a half day stay here. The extra half day was tagged on whilst staying there so I did not have to leave my room till I needed to go to airport.
I wish I could understand hotel reservation systems. The hotel's own website showed no room availability for the dates I required. Having been caught like this before, I telephoned the hotel direct and they indeed confirmed that the hotel was fully booked. i then went to the Expedia website where i was able to book a room with no problem subject to their £12 nightly booking fee. Before enquiring if it were possible to extend my stay by half a day, I thought I would again check the websites. The hotel's own website and also Expedia showed no availability whatsoever for that particular evening so I expected a negative response from reception; well, surprise surprise, they were happy to give me a daytime rate as the hotel was not particularly busy that evening!! Sometimes computers have made life more complicated-surely a room is either booked or not booked.
Having dealt with that rant, I can say that the Intercity Hotel is comfortable, quiet, extremely clean and efficient. I had a single room which unfortunately meant a single bed but the room itself was spacious and probably the same floor area as a double. One of my perennial moans is hotels which do not have blackout curtains and the curtains here, although shielding most of the light, were not entirely blackout.
Breakfast was included (although Expedia said it wasn't) and comprised a pleasant fresh buffet served untill 11am on weekend days (10 on weekdays). The buffet lacked the sparkling wine which is so often provided in German hotels but it did me good to go without.
There is virtually no communal lounge area within the hotel-just a few seats in reception but the bar/restaurant is open most of the day.The location is very close to the railway station but not actually part of the station complex which many InterCity hotels are.
If I had just one gripe, it would be that the bed linen was not changed at all for the 3 nights I slept there but was changed on the last day when I was only keeping the room till 6pm. i would have expected a daily change in this class of hotel.
I would be quite happy to stay here again.

Altona Hotel is practically part of the Train/Underground Station. Perfect for links into the City Centre. Only a few stops to St Pauli (for FC St Pauli !!)

Rooms clean and reasonably sized. Buffet Breakfast excellent. Staff on reception , in the restuarant and at the bar were helpful, good-natured and professional.

For the overall quality and service. Perfect. When you add in the price. Fantastic. Hope they don't end up with any hooligans during the World Cup.

If you're going to Hamburg via Ryanair this is perfect. It's a 5-minute walk from the bus station where the Ryanair shuttle from Lubeck drops you, and right on the edge of the city centre. Helpful, friendly, English-speaking staff. Pleasant, clean and quiet (as requested) room with vg shower-room. Nice breakfast (although fruit salad looked decidedly tinned). Didn't have dinner so can't comment on that. All in all just what we needed for our brief stay.

My wife and I have stayed at the Intercity Hotel on several occasions. It's a great central location, just over the road from the railway station, but quiet. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were, as one would expect, clean and very comfortable. Incidentally, just around the corner there is a very quiet and pleasant corner pub with a good menu and pleasant atmosphere.
