The hotel location inside a century old huge watertower is quite spectacular. Traces of the old function afe embedded in the new concept. The hotel is located in a park so that you have onobstructed views from your hotel room, particularly from higher floors. After seeing the ecclectic design in the front hall and the ground floor, the hotel rooms are a bit sterile and not very special. Due due its original function, also the windows are small and the rooms do not get a lot of sunlight. The breakfast is outstanding. As the hotel is relatively new the young staff is friendly and sometimes unexperienced, but this will improve with time.

Hello from Hamburg,

Thank you for your visit in our hotel and for taking the time to write this review.

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the special interior and atmosphere of our public area. It’s a pity that the accommodation of our hotel rooms wasn’t totally after your taste.
We are happy that you could enjoy the great view on the city.
The size of our windows is different, because the old architecture of the water tower indeed has been conserved completely, when the hotel was built.
Thank you for the compliment concerning our breakfast and our service.

We hope that we may welcome you very soon again in our hotel.

Kind regards,
The team of Moevenpick Hotel Hamburg

This hotel was one of the best I have ever stayed at. Situated in a renovated water tower in the middle of the Sternschanze park. It is just a 50 metre walk from the Sternschanze U/S bahn station. The rooms were very clean with a modern, stylish design. Our room had a fantastic view over the city. The staff were excellent and even noticed it was my Birthday whilst I was staying there.

+ Location - next to U/S bahn station & close to bars and restaurants of Sternschanze
+ Unique building, wonderfully renovated
+ Clean room and bathroom
+ Fantastic views over the city
+ Excellent service & friendly staff
+ 5 Euro cocktails in the bar!
+ No noise despite being next to the railway
+ Blackout curtains

- There were blinds on the window between the bathroom and bedroom, which is a cool design feature but it means the bedroom is filled with light if your travelling partner gets up in the middle of the night!

The hotel is highly recommended. The first impression of the hotel, the structure of the old Wasserturmes with new architecture, is really impressive. It's conveniently located about 200m from the bus station Sternschanze. The S-Bahn station is directly in front of the hotel with direct access to the city center or Hamburg's port. The staff were always friendly and helpful, check-in/check-out very fast, the service was perfect. My room was large enough, modern, and clan, with all facilities I needed. The restaurant in the hotel has grat menu. Not to mention the more than adequate buffet breakfast in the morning. Good choice for stay in Hamburrg.

This hotel is located in an area called "Schanzenviertel", which is - to be honest - not the most exclusive area of Hamburg. The hotel is inside an old water tower, all new, very stylish, an escalator leads from the entrance to the lobby. The staff was very very friendly, the standard room not extremely big, but due to the type of building the rooms are never square.Inside each room is a drawing of the whole hotel and it shows which floor you are. nice idea. between bathroom and bed there is a large window, so that your bathroom is always lit with some daylight (of course not at night). The breakfast in the hotel is excellent (it is a swiss hotel chain, so you get a lot of excellent swiss food for breakfast). Make sure, you have at least one drink in the CAVE bar, its a very nice hotel bar. The hotel has two parking possibilities (garage and outside parking on the hotel ground, both to be paid). If you a lucky you might find a free parking in front of the hotel. Almost opposite the hotel is public transport (S-Bahn and U-Bahn), which takes you straight to the harbor or the main shopping area of hamburg, so you can basically leave your car at the hotel. In the immediate vicinity there are plenty of restaurants (more student style). my recommendation is the close-by restaurant BULLEREI, which is more expensive, but worth every cent. All in all we enjoyed the hotel and the area very much. I do know and have stayed in many different hotels in Hamburg, I can definitely recommend this one!

Room Tip: the more you spend the higher your floor will get !

Stayed one night on a business trip. Really enjoyed the hotel, excellent (expensive) breakfast with probably one of the widest choices I've ever seen.

Great bed, extra clean and most of all: really great design. Building a hotel in a water tower is an interesting idea and in this case a really well executed one. Really nice bathroom, could have done without the window into the bedroom but I was sharing with a colleague, would have probably enjoyed the window more with a female companion :-).

Didn't like the pay-as-you-go internet (seen this in other international chain hotels as well, why??) and the "business centre" which was just a few tables and had a weak mobile signal connection which is just awkward.

We stayed here for three nights and can honestly say we enjoyed them, particularly the happy hour cocktails. The staff were very friendly, professional and willing to help. The only downside is the ridiculous price for breakfast. Nearly £40 for a couple! Step outside, get on the U3 and eat just as well elsewhere for a lot less money. The hotel is conveniently located very close to the U3 station which is a line that takes you to virtually everywhere you need to go in Hamburg to see the sights. However, buying a ticket is frustratingly complex. After an hour we finally settled on the group ticket for 5 people over three days with admission charge reductions which saved us the price of the ticket (34.5 Euros). A five person ticket for two people is still cheaper that buying two individual tickets for the same thing. We did wonder how a single ticket for more than one person would work. We found out that no-one seems to check your ticket, either electronically, manually or by any other method. I presume there must be roving bands of ticket inspectors but we never saw one of them. Maybe the people of Hamburg are just extraordinarily honest!

My wife and I just returned from a two week trip to Germany, including five nights in Hamburg. The Moevenpick is located in a historic structure at the edge of a park approximately 10 minutes from downtown (on the U-Bahn). The hotel is very interesting, with good service and amenities. Our room on the second floor was a bit small but within the typical range for European hotel rooms. Our room faced the S-Bahn tracks, but the excellent soundproofing meant a very quiet night's sleep. The beds were very nice, as was the bathroom. The buffet breakfast is a somewhat expensive affair, but the selection is wonderful and the setting nice as well.
