“Friendly Jazz Club”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2014

Visited the Cotton Club after dinner over the Easter Bank Holiday and found it to by busy with an excellent "senior " jazz band playing. The entrance fee and drinks were very reasonable, the staff friendly and the whole club had a relaxed atmosphere. We even had a chat with the band during a break about the Ronnie Scott Club in London. Highly recommended.

“"Cool" Place in Hamburg”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 October 2013

In this "cool" little place you are surrounded by wonderful photo memories on the walls. Up close and personal feel with the musicians. The atmosphere was very comfortable and relaxed. If you love jazz this is the place to go in Hamburg. This ranks up there with the Blue Note / Village Van in NYC.
Keeping my fingers crossed that I will be back !

“... and there I went again ...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 October 2013

Having had a "round" Birthday (that's what we call birthdays with a "0" at the end), celebrating in hometown and friends visiting, I suggested to listen to some Jazz in the evening and we were a bunch of five. Many surprises.

None of my friends or relatives - be it from Hamburg or outside - had been visiting the Cotton Club before. Second: A Danish guest group was playing that evening (Finney's Jazzman) and third: Small number of visitors on a Saturday night - and that wasn't the group's fault, as the played great!

Finding out your friends, knowing them for a couple of decades, start swinging at the table is in a way touching. If one call's it a day - due to some intercontinental jet lag, everyone leaving - still one decides to return to listen to another two sets - I conclude it having been the right choice.

Hey Cotton Club Hamburg- keep on running (or playing), wish to continue visiting once in a while!

“Good way to spend a rainy evening!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2013

We popped along to the Cotton Club due to inclement weather. It was mid-week, but even so the place was surprisingly quiet - we counted only around 25-30 patrons. The jazz band playing was okay - entertaining/enthusiastic enough but nothing too special. Entrance was 6 Euros and the drinks cost around 5 Euros or so for 500 ml. For that kind of price I would hope for free admission, but there you go!

Anyway, it was an enjoyable couple of hours and we're glad we went. I imagine it has a livelier atmosphere at the weekend, although the seating arrangement only works when the place is less than half full (as people presumably won't want to be seated facing away from the performers!)
