We stayed in a room with a pull out- room 15. It had windows to the front street and back. The room was basic and clean. When we arrived with our girls the pull out was made up and ready for them. The Manager at the front desk was very helpful and spoke great English.

She gave us many suggestions of things to do in the city. She also gave us a great suggestion for dinner that was very good and perfect for our family. It's a solid 3 star. The bath was a bit small but it was clean. The shower fixture was a bit loose and my husband fixed the screw. We checked in a bit before check-in time. She gave us the option of waiting for them to make up the room or just dropping the bags then going back. We chose to drop our bags and head out.

We parked our car out front and it was very secure. Right next door was a large mall type store with a local food chain and some clothing stores. We had a very easy/short walk to the train station. At the station the ticket machine was broken. Since it was the weekend the Manager had suggested a family pass for 8 euro that would be good for Sat. and Sunday for 2 adults and 2 kids. The room had a hot-pot and hair dryer.

We enjoyed our visit to the city. The breakfast was great. It was a nice set up with many choices both hot and cold. The breakfast was 4 stars! The yoghurt was not the standard fare it came in glass jars so maybe it was homemade? I found both the husband (I think) and wife that ran it to be very sweet. They were both very helpful and spoke enough English that we had no trouble at all. I would stay again. My main request is a clean room, which this was. A great breakfast is always nice as well. It's basic- no frills but large and bright. There was no AC but that is normal and it was not needed for our stay.

perfect place to stay in hamburg, few minutes walking from U-Bhan, the Central Station (HBF) and the Bus Station (ZOB, Bus from Lubeck Airport, where ryanair lands).
the room are spacious and German wooden style.
Breakfast is large and variegated, including hot beverages, fruit juices, croiassant, jogurt, cereals, several kinds of ham and cheese, egg, jam, chocolate cake, fruit salad..
Staff is very friendly and kind and they speak english.

the Hotel is situated in a nightlife zone, with some casinos, sexy shops, clubs, kebab.
the Hotel street is quiet, but guys passing in the street during the night could be a bit noisy

We wanted to stay somewhere convenient, and we wanted to stay in a hotel that was not part of a large chain. This is exactly what we got from this hotel--and nothing more.

After being taken to a room reeking of cigarette smoke, we asked for a non-smoking room only to be taken to another room similarly reeking of smoke (the woman at the hotel had just taken the ashtray away!). Around 10 o'clock in the night, the woman at the reception told us that we should pay her immediately, to save her from coming in again in the morning (no staff at the hotel during the night--so if you want something during the night, forget it!). There was no key to the safe (the woman at the reception could not find the keys) so of course you could not leave anything precious in the room. When we reserved, we had asked specifically for a room with two beds but was told that there was none.

All in all, the hotel was OK for one night's stay, but DON'T expect anything more than the convenient location! At least chain hotels have basic facilities--which you cannot expect from such a small hotel. We paid 89 euros, which we had hoped would be more than enough for basic stuff!

  • Liked — Convenient location
  • Disliked — Facilities are too basic (very minimal)

After many hours travelling, my partner & I arrived at Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (main station) and proceeded to look for accomodation nearby, we were not very hopeful, it being the World cup and with the city hosting a match earlier that day, however after a few misses of dodgy looking places and very expensive places we stumbled upon the Hotel Alt-Nurnberg in a street very near the station 'Steintorweg' You can't miss this hotel as it has a Hansel & Gretel-esque exterior which looks incongruous to it's big city surroundings. The proprietor was friendly enough, although with our limited German and her limited English, we struggled to get our requirements across, but we settled on a reasonable price of 109 Euros for an ensuite twin room (no doubles left). I expect you can get this quite a bit cheaper outside of the football tournament, but we found it a reasonable price for the accomodation provided. The room was at the top of the hotel so street noise was subdued (the double glazing is substantial) It was roomy with big chunky wooden beds, and although traditionally German in feel, it wasn't too twee (unlike the outside of the hotel) the bathroom was spacious, modern and spotlessly clean and the shower was nicely powerful. We were asked when we wanted our breakfast and it was very flexible, I think you could have breakfasts up to 11am if you wanted. The breakfast was continental but generous with lovely fresh croissants, rolls, yoghurt, cheese, meats and a boiled egg. I recommend staying here if you want a clean and inexpensive city hotel very convenient for the central station.
