“Good value for your money”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2013 via mobile

Kieler Hof is a traditional pension-hotel in the budget bracket where you get decent accommodation but no luxury. Located in the middle of St. Georg, the surroundings can be a little bit naughty and the entrance from the street may scare you off. Inside, however, you'll find a clean, simple establishment. As usual in this type of hotel, you will have a sink and probably also a shower cabin in your room. Toilets are communal. The doors are not soundproof, and if someone doesn't respect the usual rule of silence after 11 P.M. you or someone else may have to correct that person. Breakfast is simple but sufficient (eggs are served only on weekends...). No fresh fruit nor veggies, however.

Don't expect wonders for approx. 40 euros for a single room, but the location next to the Hauptbahnhof is great and if you don't mind the "specialities" described above you are definitely recommended to stay here.

Kieler Hof is quite an average, normal hotel. The main advantage are convenient location near the railway station and a cheap price. Breakfast has been served and included in price. Poor in quantity, continental type but nicely served. Personally, I am used to and would prefer a more hearty breakfast. The decor in the hotel and in my room was simple. Room is so-so. WC and shower are in the hallway. There was a sink in the room so you could wash and brush teeth. Bed linen, towels, soap and shampoo were provided. However, the light in bathroom twice were off, but was immediately fixed at my request.
In general, the hotel is clean and maintained in order. I can recommend it for budget travelers.

Hotel is situated not far from the central railway station, so it was very convenient for me to get to the hotel from the aiport, visit main places of interest in the city and continue my Germany trip by railway. I stayed in a room with shared facilities. Shower and toilet were in the corridor. In a room there was a washbasin. Room furniture were few and simple. The room itself and common areas were clean and maintained in order. Breakfast was included in a room price. It was advertised as a continental breakfast, so I expected just coffee and croissant, but they offered rather great choice to be called continental. Our room and reception were situated on a first floor. The stairs leading there are rather steep, so might be inconvenient for guests with large luggage. I think that this hotel is quite acceptable option for budget tourists.

We had just one night in Hamburg before travelling on to Berlin so the location of this place by the station was perfect. The room was fine, bedding very comfortable, shared toilets but not a problem as we were aware of that when we booked. We had our own sink in the room. Breakfast again is simple but nice enough. No complaints at all about this place.

Very close to the central train station Hauptbahnhof , so a good base for exploring more of the city via the u-bahn and s-bahn which is very cheap compared to taxis.
The room was adequate with a shared toilet - could find no English speaking channels on the satellite tv. Breakfast included very fresh two bread rolls, cold meat, cheeses coffee etc.
Hotel staff very polite.
The area is gay and the nearby streets have streetwalker prostitutes and some junkies and a few drunks. But pretty safe. There are some hostess bars nearby too but very quiet.
Overall at the price a good base to explore Hamburg from

Room Tip: I would not bother paying extra for an in-suite shower always free in the hallway Take a big towel...

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel is fairly centrally located, being a 20 minute walk to the centre of the city, and a 2 minute walk to the central bus/train station. The location has a reputation for being seedy, but we had no problems and felt safe. The room was an acceptable size, toilet was share, but always clean. Hot shower in the room. Wifi internet had a continual strong signal. Only problems were that it could be quite noisy at night, and the lack of any fans/air con necessitated the window being open. Reception staff were not overly friendly, though they were not outright rude. All tourist information was available at the desk. Breakfast was inclusive, but limited to a selection of breads (no toasting available) and one type of cereal, tea and coffee. It was sufficient to fuel you for a day, but more variety would be welcomed.

For the great price, a clean and friendly pension option near to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof with free wi-fi. The main unattractive feature was the many prostitutes and pimps plying their traid on the street in front of the hotel and in the nearby neighbourhood. They aren't dangerous or bothersome, but I would recommend weighing up thier presence to the great location and price which the hotel offers.
