“Nice and modern hotel in the city center”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2010

I visited the hotel already twice and would always book this hotel for a trip to Hamburg. Great location just 3 minutes from the U-bahn - 2 Stations to the city center or 20 minutes walk to Hauptbahnhof. Very good price, nice and modern rooms. Once we got a free upgrate for a suite. We tryed the restaurant as well, was for reasonable price and very tasty. Staff was very helpfull and friendly. I would recommend this hotel for anybody. Friends or a couple.

We stayed three nights, drawn by the "design hotel" advertising and the rave reviews. It wasn't bad but neither was it memorable. It's walking distance from downtown Hamburg; yes, by Hamburg's standards it's not the poshest neighborhood but it never felt uncomfortable or even unsafe.

Pros:
- Free Sauna/Spa access
- Reinforced walls and windows: rooms are almost soundproof
- Friendly, helpful staff
- Nice bar, decent Austrian restaurant

Cons:
- Rooms lack the any hint of luxury; cheap soap from ugly dispensers, no big pillows, small TV, cheapish materials
- Minibar wasn't restocked, used glasses not washed.
- Room service available, but not for breakfast !

The hotel was great for our stay. It wasn't in the best area BUT it was close to the station and shopping streets and that was all we needed! - and our room was clean and spacious.

The hotel was too expensive compared to the location (prostitutes and gambling places) and the "tacky" red room with too few towels and a red "pig" light in the bathroom. The service was not very polite either especially in the bar where the bald bartender thought we tried to scam them by filling out the bar tap incorrectly even tough I had signed it and filled in the room number. The staff was generally okay even though it felt like they were expecting tips, which we wouldn't give because of the room rates (129€/day) and the missing free Wi-Fi/towels.

Hotel is on walking distance of Hamburg Hbf. Not the best neighborhood, but felt safe.
Staff at reception very friendly and service minded. Room was not too big. Bathroom (only shower) seperated from bedroom with a curtain. Missed coffee and tea making facilities.

Stayed on 7th floor - where wellness area was located. Is free of charge for hotel guests - and is perfect. Clean, spacious and free bathrobe, towels, soap. Has a sauna, steambath, colorsauna and variety of showers.

Internet in the rooms is free of charge (ask for a cable and password upon check in) but extremely slow. Have to pay extra for high speed.

Breakfastbuffet is rather expensive for what you get (€ 17). Not the best breakfast.

All together convenient hotel for a good price. Dont expect too much.

One U bahn stop from main station. Red leather, black marble theme. Top quality food in restaurant, good value, but bar specialises in selection of gins from around the world, but a gin & tonic with one of these specials is 12 euros , so beware.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2009

I found this hotel was a good compromise between value and quality. Front desk service was polite and efficient, bags were taken up to the room by a porter. Lifts require room card, which is good for security.

Rooms themselves are quite spacious, and use the Rubin rubyred colour scheme, which gives a sense of quality. Beds were very comfortable. good quality TV, but just had the usual 30 or so German cable channels. DVD player was a nice addition, especially as it had a USB slot. Bathroom was always clean and quite spacious, only problem occurred when shower gel (the type in a dispenser on the wall) was replaced with hand soap by accident - a quick call to reception rectified this with miniature shampoos and shower gel.

Used internet in the lobby - three computers which were rarely all occupied, and seemed quite secure, deleting your session when you logged off.

Area is not fantastic, you do have to walk through a slightly grotty, seedy area to get there, but it is well lit and on a main road, about 10 minutes walk from the main train station, and two minutes from the nearest U-Bahn. The slightly rough-and-ready surroundings mean that there is plenty of nearby nightlife, with lots of atmosphere.

Overall, highly recommended!
