The location of the hotel is close to Hamburgs Musical Theaters, the DOM festival and the Landungsbruecken (Harbor). If you are looking for a place in St. Pauli to stay this hotel could be an option for you. We came from Sweden by car and needed to travel on to Amsterdam the next day. Hamburg was for us one last highlight on our vacation we where looking forward to. The hotel has a convenient car park which was great for us.

Apart from the convenient parking and the good location though, our experience with this hotel has been rather disappointing. Its not really clear for what kind of traveler this hotel is catering. It tries to be a trendy design hotel but the rooms just don't deliver on that. Furniture and fittings are cheap and not very well thought through in their usability. The hotel seems to aim at business traveler clientele but then doesn't have the kind of service and facilities that you would expect as a business traveler (No wifi in the room, no iron and ironing board, even the higher priced deluxe rooms don't have a proper desk and chair with table lamp to work on etc.).

The deluxe rooms are marketed as rooms with great views over the city and the harbor when in fact many of these rooms are located on lower floors where that is not the case. So if you book a deluxe room for the view, ask to be on one of the upper floors or take a lower priced standard room.

Another thing that disappointed me was the attitude of the staff and their willingness to listen and assist. Our first room smelled awful of cold cigarette smoke despite the fact that I asked specifically for a non smoking room. It took me a long time to convince the staff that this really isn't acceptable for me traveling with a small child.

All in all I felt the hotel did not really meet the expectations I had. There are definitely better options available in Hamburg at this price range. Its unlikely that I will stay at the Empire Riverside again.

I used to visit this hotel several times before just for 20 up bar, this time I have also stayed one night. I have observed that the rooms are clean, comfortable and have nice view. But not large which didn't disturb me. Also very near to city center that 4 stops by tram to Jungfernstieg.

I visited Hamburg for a week and booked this hotel since it was close to the sea, close to my work place, close to the market and offered a great price.

The Hotel looks very impressive. It overlooks the harbour which is always busy with cargo ships in and out of the harbour. The checking procedure is quick, you just need to present your business card and your room key will be offered to you in less than a minute. And i must say, all the receptionists appeared really smart and really beautiful. Most of them were really sweet and ready to guide you around the city as soon as you asked. Great First Impression!!

My room was Big! Big bed, Big bathroom, Big table, Big Wardrobe, Big TV. The bed is really really cozy and you can sink into a comfortable sleep as soon as you get in the bed. Great Second Impression!!

I reached on a sunday. After checking in, i decide to take a walk around the hotel. Hamburg seems to be be a pretty lazy city with everything closed around noon. There is a street just behind the hotel which leads to another main road which seems to be a very active shopping area. But a second glance and you will figure out that you are getting closer to a red light area. Later i figured out that the red light area was just beginning from where this street ends. However, there it appeared to be completely safe as there was a police station right at the end of the street.

I had lunch at the restaurant and there was mostly typical German food and a few dishes from Asia, also Bombay (where I live). Everything ever ordered during my stay was really well prepared and the food looked great was it was served. The hotel has a great collection of wine, cheese and desserts which one can savour.

There is also a great great breakfast spread. They will also serve you breakfast in your room at a small room service charge.

Around the Hotel there are many small restaurants and pubs which are cozy and you can dine and wine at a different place each day.

The hotel is situated in a really nice location. There is a train station for the metro right opposite the hotel. It connect all parts of the city. The hotel will also provide you with unbrellas if its raining outside at no charge.

The best part is the view of the harbour. I also saw the cruise Elizabeth one day and couldn't believe its size.

Overall, a really comfortable and pleasant stay.

Highly Recommended.

i don't know how it happened but I finished up on the 20th of 20 floors. Plusses the view and the soaring, 15m ceiling. Negative, the bar is the other side of the corridor and at midnight it is still quite noisy. But, what a super hotel. Good front desk, great for looking at the docks and walking towards the naughty bits of Hamburg. Excellent choice for breakfast but @ 16€ it should be. I would only recommend this hotel to a friend if someone else was paying for it!

The hotel is located in the centre of Hamburg, overseing the harbour and just behind the reeperbahrn street, one of the most famous streets in Hamburg.
Design of the hotel is verz modern and extremely well furnished, although the rooms are not so big, but the smart design of doors, side beds, etc...make the room spacious enough + the glass windows overseeing Hamburg (Tip: book a room on the upper floors to get a nice view from above). Needless to mention the cleanliness of the rooms.
Hotel staff are very friendly and always smiley, the service is also great. The best thing in this hotel is the bar on the 20th floor with a great view.

The style of the room is minimalist and may not be to everyone's taste. Nevertheless rooms are comfortable and clean. I loved the view from my room especially, great views on Hamburg harbour. Bathrooms are modern and clean with great showers. Good breakfast buffet. Good location, next metro station about five minutes walk, very easy access to city centre.

While I wouldn't choose this hotel for a romantic getaway, I would stay there again for a short weekend trip as well as for business.

We stayed at this hotel because it was close to a friend's flat (half a kilometer walk) and he thought it would be interesting for us to stay there. The first word that came to mind was sterile and way expensive. The building is brand new and has a bit of snobbish attitude. Great for business travel if you have business in the immediate area but not easy to reach if carrying bags from the train station and trying to use the public transport. Use a cab instead. Hamburg is a big and busy city with many options for lodging. The sterile environment of this hotel is a good escape for those on business who seek some quiet. Easy walk to the river front and tunnel.
