For an American, this hotel is a great place to stay. The beds are comfortable, bathrooms are nice, bar is fun and the beer is outstanding (of course). The breakfast buffet has many options, including fresh-squeezed OJ and a variety of both European and U.S. breakfast choices. There's a very small gym with a nice steam room and sauna in addition to a couple whirlpool tubs that you have to pay 3 Euro to use. The tubs are worth it if you need some relaxation after a long train ride or flight.
The hotel is located next to the Darmstadtium and the largest park in Darmstadt, Herrngarten. This park is great for taking walks or just people-watching on a warm day. There's also a nice flower garden that was owned by a Queen adjacent to the park.
The people are always very friendly, speak english and are willing to help you with anything you need. I've never had 1 bad encounter in 4 years of visiting.
I would highly recommend this hotel for anybody wanting to stay near Darmstadt City Center.More
