“Clean and Nice Section of Town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

The hotel was oonvenient to office locations in down town Frankfurt and found the room to be very clean. The food at the restaurant was very good and the over-all experience was positive. The shower in the middle of the room is interesting but my travel partners leaked and caused a mess on the room floor though my room was sealed well.

Dear Tom W,

thank you very much for taking the time to write this review.

I am very happy to learn, that you enjoyed your stay with us and I was especially pleased, that you found your dining experience was a good one.
Our location is indeed convenient, not only for the offices around us, but for leisure time as well, as we are right in the heart of Frankfurt.
I have shared your remark about your travel companions shower with our housekeeper and our engineer in order to prevent something like this from happening again.

Tom W, thank you once again and I hope we will be able to welcome you again in the not too distant future.

Kind regards,

Thomas Marusczyk

I visited this hotel with grandparents on a 5* romp around Europe following my university graduation. We booked this hotel for $185USD per room per night on priceline (Name your own price). Breakfast was included, and wifi is free. A good start.

When one arrives, one will find complimentary gummy candies. These are delicious, and my grandmother and I liberated quite a few extra bags from the housekeeping trolleys. Unguarded sweets are too tempting for a child-at-heart 22 year old. And what senior citizen has ever turned down a "freebie?"

The rooms are spotlessly clean and elegantly modern. We were assigned the "business" grade of room (25 sq metres). That space isn't bad for a European hotel. Amenities include a variety of soaps/shampoo/conditioner/moisturiser, as well as a sewing kit. Complementary mineral water is available and replenished throughout one's stay. One minor complaint is finding a light switch while heading toward the bathroom in the middle of the night. Bumping into the shower is not pleasant. Sounds strange? No, not really. The shower is in the room and is a glass cubicle. If you are travelling with someone special, you are treated to a steamy go-go cage experience. Blessedly, my family is quite reserved/private, so I was in a separate room and didn't discover a new (or very old, by another interpretation) side of my grandparents.

The breakfast room is located on the top floor with excellent city views. I would call the selection of foods on offer "concise." It is not a quarter-mile/0.4km expanse of global cuisine one would find at the Intercontinental Hong Kong, but what is offered is high quality. One finds a variety of smoked meats, salmon, fresh fruit, yoghurts, lots of bread, appropriate cakes/pastries, cereal, and juice. One also may select a complimentary item of cooked food from the menu. I selected the veal plate. It's probably a disaster from an animal welfare perspective, but it beats the standard bacon and egg offering of a Best Western. One minor complaint was waiting 15 minutes for a cup of tea. That requires about 2 minutes. Of all the staff, the breakfast room had the weakest English competency (functional, but not much better). Comparatively, the bar and reception were quite fluent. This isn't a huge issue as I can speak German, but it is worth pointing out.

The paternoster elevator is fun.

A fair selection of international newspapers is offered.

Did I mention free wifi?

Other notable points: The deposit charged here is quite large. Granddad's credit card was authorised for circa $230US per room per night. The charges also took two weeks to drop off his account. Not a problem for him, but bear this in mind if you have more limited credit.

The gym is small, but quiet and in decent condition.

There is an underground/subway station right in front of the hotel, giving this hotel excellent public transport connections.

Verdict: A premium hotel. 5*, but not a luxury experience.

Dear James M,

thank you very much for taking the time to write this review.
I was happy to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and especially that you had an enjoyable breakfast experience.
I am sorry to hear, that the wait for your cup of tea was a bit long in the morning and I have already shared your comment with our restaurant manager, in order to prevent this from recurring.
As you already pointed out, our showers are different from your more standard hotels, but it is a feature we really like and we receive a lot of positive feedback about.

James M, thank you once again and I hope we will be able to welcome you and your family again in the not too distant future.

Kind regards,

It feels harsh to give a hotel a one-star review, so I don't do it lightly. This is after all an interesting building with some attractive features that others have written about - the continuous elevator, the roof terrace, the deco touches.

But a hotel ultimately needs to provide a comfortable, functioning room to its guests, whatever its star rating. And on this Fleming's have failed quite spectacularly. Every hotel has an off night, a dodgy room or two. But it looks to me as if there are systemic issues here that go beyond bad luck.

The first room I checked into had a faulty thermostat that was buzzing and groaning so loudly I recorded the sound on my phone. Front desk staff were friendly when I rang down to ask them to move me, though they only took action once I went down to the lobby and played them the recording. I was moved to a second room precisely underneath the original room while out for dinner. When I arrived back, the new room was like an ice box - colder than the corridor and the lobby. I fiddled repeatedly with the thermostat but no heating came on. I thought it was a fault perhaps with the heating in this part of the building, and went back to the lobby. No solution was offered. Indeed a member of staff explained that 'they' had turned the heating off, either because it was May or because of the construction. Sure enough, all radiators I touched were stone cold. I presume that was why I was not offered another room.

So I am sitting here, freezing cold. My nose is icy and I can feel a chill through my clothes. A friendly member of staff helped me get an extra duvet from the housekeeping cupboard. It's not clear that anyone else was going to do anything at all to help me. When I said it was unacceptable, they just looked at me mournfully, as if to say 'yes, we agree, but what can we do?' When I asked who had made the decision to turn off the heating, it was unclear.

Second point: I booked a room with a double bed. This has a single bed. A fairly large single bed, but a single bed (continental equivalent of a 3'6"). My booking with hotels.com states "2 adults", "double bed OR 2 single beds", "preference double bed".

What else? The phone in my icy room is missing its front panel so it's not clear which button is for which service; one of the keys is pressed down permanently so I had to pry it up to be able to call front desk. Why was I calling again? Because I was trying to use the wifi, which apparently needed details from the front desk. I never quite understand why hotels don't just give guests the wifi password without them having to phone and ask for it. And of course - I promise this is not just me being grumpy and cold at this stage - the wifi is terrible. Intermittent and ill-behaved.

Just for completeness, the curtains are thin and block out very little daylight.

And this is not a cheap room. It cost £336.96. I travel more than I would like, and I've seen a lot of hotel rooms. I had thought that I was treating myself with this, given the price. Turns out this is the worst value hotel room I can ever remember staying in. I am kicking myself so hard.

I was recommended this hotel by friends in Frankfurt. They loved the elevator (I cannot remember the name they used for it but it is a continuous motion style, very interesting) in the lobby, the fact that it was the old Bayer building, in general the history of the building itself. The staff was very friendly and helpful, breakfast was great (and included). Rooms are a little small but comfortable and clean. Great setup at the des if you are going to be working in your room. Plenty of outlets etc. They offered me two log ins to their internet service so I could update my phone and computer. All in all a great place to stay in the heart of Frankfurt. I would definitely stay there again.

I have stayed many nights in the last few years at this hotel. It should be a style icon as it impresses through its design and retro chic. Placed in an architectural treasure of post-war industrial wealth with real working paternoster. The rooms are trendy, chic and spacious. The real added bit of fun are the glass shower cubicles in the middle of the room - great fun if you happen to travel with your man/woman. I agree a bit awkward if you travel with friends...

The hotel offers a refurbished small (!) Spa and Fitness area, where there is complimentary water and healthy snacks.

Finally, the free wifi and great breakfast overlooking the roofs of Frankfurt are two points, that make this hotel to beat most of the competitors in its league.

If you still not convinced, try the cocktail at the roof top Flemings Club...

It has a subway station right in front of the main cc. Rooms are big and with a very tall roof. Breakfast buffet is the best part. It also has an excellent bar in the top floor.
it is a perfect choice if you want to visit central Frankfurt.

My husband and I stayed here for our 1 year anniversary trip to Frankfurt. We typically enjoy staying at small B&B's but we found a package deal through Flemings that was unbeatable. This package included 3 course dinner for 2 nights and also included breakfast. When we arrived to the hotel we were immediately greeted by friendly and helpful staff. When we got to our rooms we were impressed with the extra steps the hotel personal took to give our special day some romatic touches. On the bed were chocoaltes and strawberries and a hand written note thanking us for choosing Flemings. The 3 course dinner was some of the best food we ever had. Fantasic homemade sorbets and lovely tender meat dishes. The rooms were very clean and had everything we needed. I would highly recommend Flemings for a romantic getaway thats close to the attractions of Frankfurt.
