This hotel redefines the word "patchy". Some bits are good - getting the door opened for you as you approach (useful, because you'd be hard-pressed to work out where the entrance actually is if you'd never been there before), the shower is hot and the selection at breakfast is interesting and generous.
So, there are bits and pieces which are good.
And some bits not so good. Now, if I'm going to give one piece of advice here, it would be: bring a torch. This place is dark. It feels like the middle of the night in the middle of the day. Even after you've managed to work out the lighting controls in your room, you'll get no more than the equivalent of a couple of lit candles when turned up to max.
I had 3 nights here, and I didn't manage a good night's sleep on any of those. Firstly, it was very smoky, even though it didn't appear to be a smoking room - there was no ashtray. If you are sensitive to smoke, you might struggle here, as I did. Second, the bed is not at all comfortable, and is made up with the most ridiculously shaped duvet and pillow. They are both square-shaped, but not big enough in the case of the duvet, and too big in the case of the pillow. I'm short - 5 foot 6 / 1.70m, and the duvet didn't cover my feet when fully opened. And the shape of the pillow meant that I couldn't find the right position - either the pillow is half-way down your back, giving you bad posture, or it half-suffocates you by wrapping around your face if you try to put your head on the edge.
There a flashy-looking bar on the ground floor, but if you want to spend any time there, I'd recommend that you bring your own oxygen supply. There's more smoke than a dragons' bonfire in there.
Service was very mixed. Sometimes there was a friendly welcome. When I used room service, they were very friendly and quick. Housekeeping was faultless - a very clean room (I think - I mean it was dark!) Other times they were gathered around in groups laughing hysterically at some in-joke (way to make your guests feel comfortable!) I didn't get an apology either when I (twice) had to come all the way back down from the 5th floor because my key card no longer worked.
I stayed here because my company booked it out for a conference. This is just the absolute opposite of my kind of hotel, and I would never dream of staying here if I was having to choose and pay myself.
Don't forget that torch!
