“Simply amazing hotel - a wonderful stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 October 2011

My wife and I booked a 3 night stay at the Villa Kennedy on the tail end of a two week trip to Germany and France. We had booked a king room via a 3rd party website, and we had booked a courtyard view as recommended by many TA reviewers. Unfortunately the 3rd party website was falsely describing the room they were selling, and we were likely to instead get a plain room overlooking the street. We were quite disappointed but this was not Villa Kennedy's fault - we did write to them though, and they said they would do what they could, but there were no guarantees. As such there was a slight edge to our view of our upcoming stay there - we were not sure what to expect.

Our first impressions seemed to confirm our worries - our room wasn't ready, even though we arrived almost precisely after we said we would. We took our rental car back while they finished getting the room ready, and then come back hot, sweaty, and stressed (finding the Europcar drop-off at Hauptbahnhof is near impossible!). We were greeted by a very helpful person at reception, who checked us in straight away and took us to our room. To our surprise and delight we had been upgraded to a suite - and were greeted with a bottle of sparkling wine on arrival to our room! This totally turned our mood around and erased any previous stress and worry - what an amazing start to our stay there.

The following day (on my wife's birthday) the hotel then came to our room with a birthday cake for her, and a handwritten card! We were blown away - we hadn't requested anything other than to have the courtyard view. It was a truly wonderful gesture by the hotel and had us in incredibly good moods for our entire stay.

The room itself was looking a little tired (scratches on the wooden surfaces) and the wifi is incredibly expensive as others have mentioned, but they mentioned they are trying to implement free wi-fi, and I got the impression they will be renovating the rooms in the near future. But despite looking a little tired they are very luxurious - the bed is incredibly comfortable, and the view into the courtyard was very relaxing; it was very nice just having the windows open and letting a breeze in and listening to the water fountain in the courtyard. The only other small negative about the room was the air conditioning really was not very cold. It was not uncomfortable, but it would have been nice to take it down a notch further. It also seemed variable during the night.

The hotel itself is beautiful, as others have mentioned. The grounds and hotel are immaculately presented.

We actually ended up spending much of our trip dining at the hotel - the room service and restaurant are both excellent. The breakfast is not as high a quality as the other meals though, and the buffet is quite expensive and probably not worth it.

It was my wife's birthday while we were there, so I wrote to the concierge to ask for restaurant recommendations. They were incredibly prompt and helpful in their reply, and in the end we decided to book a table at the hotel restaurant. The food there was amazing, highly recommended. Our only disappointment came at the end of the meal - it seemed like we were forgotten for quite a while, we wanted to move outside and were told they would move us and our stuff, but then never came, even though we asked twice. However once we chased it up a second time, the person who was looking after drinks in the courtyard did an amazing job of looking after us.

The location of the hotel is good - we were able to walk to a main shopping precinct in about about 10 minutes, and it was lovely walking in the parks by the river. It is a short ride to the airport, and various other hot spots around Frankfurt.

The absolute best part of the hotel is the staff. They are prompt, courteous and warm, and will go out of their way to ensure that your needs are met and you have a pleasant stay. We were very impressed with how high a quality of service they offer.

We did end up having a few glitches checking out - a minibar charge for something we didn't have, and a few payment issues - but the way they handled those glitches was excellent. However, apparently there was a miscommunication between reception and the person collecting our bags from our room, and they were expecting us to be there (but we were at reception checking out). They mentioned this just as we were leaving - I don't think we did anything wrong, we just called the reception and said we would be checking out now and could someone please get our bags. But we got the impression they thought we had - I'm not sure what happened there.

But really, these small things barely made a dent on our stay. This is the first hotel I've stayed at since staying at the Tokyo Park Hyatt which has even come close to their service level - and I think Villa Kennedy surpassed it. If you want to go somewhere where you are properly looked after and have an incredibly comfortable stay, and for what I think are quite reasonable prices given the quality on offer, then Villa Kennedy is the place to go. I very much hope to go back one day!

Room Tip: Be sure to book a room with a courtyard view.

Following a 10 hour flight from Seattle, we took a 10 minute cab from the airport and were promptly delivered into the capable hands of the Rocco Forte Villa Kennedy staff.

The hotel is unbelievably gorgeous. Such a tasteful blend of old and new. We were informed that our room had been upgraded to a suite and our request for early check-in granted.

The room was fantastic, to say the least. Beautifully appointed. An emphasis on comfort as opposed to luxury. Immaculately clean. A dream bathroom and a large comfortable bed. We called for extra pillows and they were brought up immediately.

We had the opportunity to try room service more than once, and it was delicious. Seriously, it might have been the best hotel room service we have ever had, and it never took more than 20 minutes. Okay, I take that back. One time I ordered a steak well done, and they called us at the 20 minute mark to let us know that my steak was taking a few minutes longer. Five minutes it was in the room. WHAT SERVICE!

The restaurant was delicious. Tea in the courtyard is a *must*. It is so lovely and serene sitting in that courtyard listening to the fountains and watching the sky.

All of the staff spoke great English. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

If you have an opportunity to stay at this hotel, do not hesitate! You will not regret it.

Outstanding service from the friendly and attractive staff. The room was top notch and the spa is beautiful. It is not inexpensive though, but It truly lives up to its five-star rating. It is located across the river from the heart of the city and it is a short taxi ride or a pleasant fifteen minute walk to the local attractions. We parked in the underground lot and the location was great for our first stay before a road trip along the Romantische Straße.

We stayed overnight at the Villa Kennedy returning from a Mediterrean cruise. The service at the hotel, including the spa and restaurant was impeccable. The meal at the hotel restaurant, Gusto, rivaled any meal we had during our cruise. In fact we agreed it was the best meal of our entire trip. The Villa Kennedy is a beautiful property within walking distance to the old town and shopping and highly recommended for any stopover in Frankfurt.

We stayed two nights at Villa Kennedy and I really cannot say enough positive comments about the hotel. It was perfect and the staff was terrific. The hotel is so beautiful, I really could have stayed at the hotel during our entire visit and skipped the sightseeing. I highly recommend this hotel. I can't wait to stay again or at another Rocco Forte hotel.

From the valet who welcomes you at the door step up tho the maid who prepares your room in the evening, everyone treats you as an important guess: courteous, polite, ready to help you. A pampering experience. The decor is cozy, not too modern - could it ever be too modern? - not to classic. Had dinner at the restaurant: excellent, really. I doubt you could find better than that in Frankfurt. Yes it's a 15-20 minute walk to the town's interesting districts, but in return you get a nice and quiet location. I look forward to my next stay there.

Room Tip: My room was not on the garden side. It was a good choice because there was a big event that evening...

Stayed here twice recently, both times in a std room. The hotel is in a quiet residential area just off the CBD. A little out of the way and not as convenient the major chain hotels in the city, but a short walk to the river and 15-20 mins to the old town. Its quite close to the musuem strip however. A taxi to Alter Oper or the main train station would cost about 8 euro. There is a tram stop just behind the hotel, along with a petrol station where you can get drinks, snacks or even motor oil if you wish.

The hotel is beautiful and set in a castle type low rise building affording it character and charm that few if any can match in the area. The common areas and corridors are open and spacious, while the lobby has some very nice artworks. There's a SPA and fitness centre somewhere in the hotel too. Rooms are relatively spacious (by european standards), but sadly there wasnt much of a view. Bathrooms are big (shower, tub, bidet etc) with REN toiletries. Creepy looking medusa on the tiles though. Heated towel rack and everything else you would expect of a hotel of this calibre. Bed was very comfy, and a fruitplate was a nice touch albeit rather small. Despite having a room facing the main road there was no discernible noise at night. Theres a small TV (cant seem to find a decent sized tv in any RF hotel) but it would be nice to have a nespresso machine or an ipod doc. There's also a music library linked to the TV system if you want to relive the 80s and early 90s.

Room service was impressive; the first time it arrived in 15 mins, complete with proper S&P shakers and bottles of balsamic and olive oil. They even put the food in a small portable oven to keep it warm if you order a few dishes. Their caprese salad and lobster tagliattellewas were outstanding. The corn spaghetti salad however was rubbish.
Breakfast was very good, a buffet spread of cold items (breads, pastries, muesli, smoked meats and fish) and hot dishes cooked to order. Not the biggest range but enough to keep most people happy and the quality was very good, apart from the sliced fruits, which looked a bit pedestrian. The honeycomb was a nice touch. Coffee however was from an instant machine and tasted average, but the OJ was fresh. Service was good, staff were friendly and efficient. Small billing issue at checkout but it was all sorted in a timely fashion.

The only downsides are that its expensive (and doesnt even have comp WIFI) and a little out of the way; however other so called five star hotels charge similar if not higher tariffs (one of which Ive tried before and was absolute rubbish), and you would be better off staying here and making the trek into the city rather than some lousy generic motel masquerading as a hotel trading on its brand name in the CBD.
