Description: The Chicago Meatpackers in downtown Frankfurt was the first American Restaurant to open in the city back in the early 90s. It is still one of the most popular casual dining restaurants in the city, attracting both locals as well as tourists. In 2013 Chicago Meatpackers opened the Chicago Meatpackers Riverside on the banks of the river Main, located in the heart of the newly developed Frankfurt Westhafen. A mixed used, commercial and residential community and marina. The Chicago Meatpackers Riverside offeres outdoor seating on three levels and caters to local residents and businesses alike. A night out with friends, a birthday celebration or business presentation and product launch. The Riverside's unique water front location with up to 200 parking spaces for special events paired with Chicago Meatpacker's American food and drinks make it the perfect location for meetings, incentives or just a couple of after work drinks. We look forward to welcoming you at the Riverside.

I was part of a big birthday group at this restaurant. In general, restaurants in Frankfurt seem to struggle with large groups, but our two waitresses did really well. We were treated like two separate tables and the second table was served much later than we were, but since we were a large group this is to be expected.

The food was great, as to be expected (some of the best burgers in town, in my opinion) and I really, really appreciated that the music was on at a low level so people could have conversations. The city Meatpackers is so noisy with all the sports and people and music that you have to shout across the table at each other. At Riverside, I could sing along with the music and still have a good conversation with people.

Note: there's a bus stop right outside the restaurant but the last bus is at 9pm. The walk to the city centre isn't long, and has some of the prettiest views in Frankfurt.

We have been big fans of the Chicago Meatpacker restaurant at Willi Brandt Platz for a while and were thrilled to find out that one opened just around the corner. Unfortunately our visit on November 23rd turned out pretty bad.

We immediately noticed that our waitress seemed extremely stressed and insecure, and therefore thought that she must be new to this job. Unfortunately the manager who seemed to be in charge was busy having a drink with two guys on a table close to us and therefore wasn't willing to give her much guidance. We witnessed her turning down requests in quite a harsh way multiple times and once she even had a go at her in front of a lot of customers because a table had not been cleared. The lack of experience of our otherwise friendly waitress unfortunately resulted in us having a really bad dinner experience.

We watched our drinks standing on the bar for about 15 mins during which the waitress walked past them at least 5 or 6 times before she finally brought them over. When our food arrived I realised quickly that my food had been standing around for a while as well as my Ceasar Salad wrap was all soggy and the salad in it did not look or taste fresh at all anymore. My boyfriend's ribs seemed to be ok though. Clearly my wrap had been ready earlier and then been waiting under a heating lamp for a while.

Finally when we ordered the bill, she told us an amount without handing us any receipt and we had to ask her for one explicitly to be presented with any form of written bill.

Overall I must say that this place does not compare with the excellent performance of the other restaurant whatsoever. Maybe the staff needs more time and better management to settle in, but will rather walk the extra 15 minutes to get to the Willi-Brandt Platz restaurant in future.

Dear Svenja,

thank you for your visit and your honest feedback. We regret you had such a bad experience at our new location in the Westhafen. We will definitely look into the situation and apologise for the bad quality of service and food you encountered.

We do strive to offer the same great experience you have come to love and expect from our city centre location and would be grateful if you gave us another chance at the Westhafen.

Until then, we would be happy to welcome you at our city location.

Sincere apologies again.

We visited on the evening of Saturday 23rd November 2013.

#Summary#
Cool location (only 10 minutes walk from Hauptbahnhof) and by the river
Food average
Service awful
Shows Bundesliga games - more of a sports bar than a restaurant on these nights, would be annoying if you were hoping for a quiet meal.

My girlfriend and I are huge fans of the Chicago Meatpackers at Willy Brandt Platz, so we were excited about this new location. Unfortunately it felt as if they had banished all of their poor staff from the old location to this new one.

Despite it being a relatively busy Saturday evening, there were only 2 waitresses covering the whole of the downstairs. This could have worked if the manageress had pulled her weight, but unfortunately she seemed to busy chatting up the two guys seated on a table next to us.

As customers arrived she begrudgingly got up to greet them, turning some away because of a lack of "space" (half the upstairs was empty... tables were free downstairs too but had not been cleared). She tried to seat one group on a dirty table, then yelled at a waitress that the table hadn't been cleared (for the previous 10 minutes said manageress had been sitting again with these two guys talking and drinking with them).

Our waitress seemed totally rushed off her feet and clearly had no idea what she was doing. We watched as our drinks stood at the bar for 15 minutes before we were able to get the manageress' attention (our waitress had been serving people elsewhere in the restaurant and ironically this seemed to be the only 15 mins the manageress wasn't sat down next to us). The manager then went and found our waitress, shouted at her, then returned to sit back down with these two guys next to us (and she couldn't even be bothered to bring our drinks with her...).

My girlfriend ordered the Chicken Caesar Wrap and was presented with a couple of wet miserable wraps that had been dropped on a plate with no care whatsoever. I wanted to complain but by this time my girlfriend wanted to eat up and leave as quickly as possible.

Overall a really bad meal which was made even more apparent by the direct comparison we had to the other Chicago Meatpackers in the city. It really did seem like the manager was the main cause of this. The staff seemed unmotivated, lacked training and whole place was just a mess.

Dear dkh202,

first of all, thank you for your visit to the Westhafen as well as our city centre location. We regret to hear you had such a bad experience at the Riverside.
Your accounts of the duty manager's action will be investigated. Obviously this behaviour is not what we expect from our staff, as we strive to offer the same quality of service you hopefully have come to expect from our city centre location.

We can only apologise and assure you that your experience was in no way the norm, but an unfortunate exception.

We do hope to be able to welcome you back to one of our restaurants in the future.

Best regards,
Chicago Meatpackers

I was visiting Germany on business. My friend took me to the city location but they were so busy and suggested we try the location off the river.....so glad we tried it! It was night time but the view was nice. This location looks much more upscale than the one in the city. The food was great, I had the double cheese burger and the Honolulu Juicer. I would definitely visit this location again. A great date spot also!
