Holiday Inn Express Frankfurt City Hauptbahnhof
Ranked #54 of 271 Hotels in Frankfurt
Reviewed 12 March 2012

I went to Frankfurt on business last week. We booked the Holiday Inn Express because it was relatively cheap and close to the city center. It ended up being a good choice. It was very affordable, the rooms were very large (in the priority club rooms, I don't know if the normal rooms would be smaller, but I would guess they would be the same, but who knows). It seemed to be a very new hotel which is always better than an older hotel. The TV had a ton of different options, much in English. This was the only Holiday Inn Express that I've ever been to that had a bar in the lobby, which was very convenient. Parking was affordable at 15 euros/night. And it came with a free breakfast. It was decent, but nothing that I will remember months from now. It seemed to be mostly business travelers there and I would recommend this for anyone traveling into Frankfurt.

Very big and confortable rooms. Terrific shower!.
Breakfast was OK
The location is very good. There are many places to go out to eat close to the hotel
I recomend this hotel for short stays as it gets a bit "too basic" if you spend more time.
Great value for money!

As with most Holiday Inn Express hotels, it did exactly what it promised. It's a new hotel, with spacious rooms and nice bathrooms.

It is NOT in the red light district, as others have mentioned, but we aware that it's not in exactly the best part of town either. A ten minute walk from Hauptbahnhof, so you're very much in the centre of things.

Wifi was strong, and as a Priority Club member, free.

Would happily use again.

Room Tip: I'd suggest higher is better. There are larger rooms available, looking at the Fire Escape map...

Arrived early in the morning into Frankfurt Airport, tried to check in at around 8am but was unsuccessful and was told to come back at a later time, that was fine for us as we had plans to go somewhere. The reception lady who first spoke to us was very nice although her English ability was limited therefore we conversed halfly in German.

Arrived later and was given a Priority Club room (my friend was a Priority Club Gold), the room was very spacious (making the bed looking small) with a sofa. Loved the room.

Internet access was free for us as a Priority Club member (cuz of gold I believe?) otherwise they would charge you 5 euros per 24 hours.

The breakfast was very good for the price paid, they served continental breakfast (which I loved the warm croissants) with juices, tea and coffee.

I loved the property overall but would love it more if some of their staff could be nicer to guests.

Dear Tripadvisor - User,

Thank you for taking the time to review our Holiday Inn Express. We greatly appreciate any comments and feedback from our guests, they tell us what we can improve.
Like you mentioned, our Wifi is free of charge for all gold and platinum members. For all other guests it is 5€ / 24 hrs, or for a small additional charge you can book the business package including Wifi.
It is nice that you loved our breakfast. The breakfast team works hard every morning to provide our guests with a good and healthy nutrition they need, to start their day.
We always try to work out things with our guests, especially our priority club members, but of course it is always based on our availability, which was the reason we weren`t able to give you an early check in that day.
Please feel free to contact us, if you'd like to discuss further about your stay.

We thanky you again for the nice comments and hope to see you again in the near future.

Booked 2 nights in December, mainly to visit the Christmas Market. The hotel receptionist was lovely, and was really helpful with tourist information etc. The room was small but very clean, and the bathroom was **sparkling**. Breakfast was more than adequate, and for the price paid...really good value. Was a bit concerned about the nearby red light district but didn't find this a problem. A few dodgy looking guys, but hey it is a major city after all. Walked everywhere, handy for the financial district, shops etc. Walking distance from the station, and to the Christmas Market area. Lots of restaurants nearby. Would stay there again.

Dear Tripadvisor - User,

Thank you for taking the time to review our Holiday Inn Express Frankfurt City Hauptbahnhof. We love to see that your time spent with us was satisfying, everyone in our hotel really enjoyed reading your review and we hope others will benefit from it.

It is nice to hear that you came all the way from Scotland to visit our Christmas Market. Full of history and traditions, the Frankfurt Christmas Market is one of Germany's oldest and most popular Christmas Markets in Europe.

We always try to work out things with our guests, especially our priority club members, but of course it is always based on our availability, which was the reason why it wasn't possible for us to give you an early check in that day.

The worst experience I ever had with hotel's staff during the past 10 years happened in this hotel.
This hotel was offering a good price for double-bed room including breakfast. So we booked two double rooms 1 night (weekend).
The hotel's location, the design and interior are very good. But that's the all good things.
The staff are super rude and impolite.

1- They reception gave us two double rooms in two different floors without informing us. when we came back and asked for locating them on the same floor next to each other she gave me two rooms on two different sides of the building without telling me. We went up stairs and came back and asked reception "again" to change the rooms (third time). She didn't even check the list and replied that it's impossible because the whole hotel is booked !!! (it was exactly 14:00). She didn't even check her computer before answering me and started staring at me and smiling. I expressed my total disappointment and left the desk. While hearing her laughing with her other friend at the reception.
2- The morning after, the cleaning staff were knocking at the door every 15 minutes starting at 9:00! After the third time I asked the man to "leave me alone" and come back after 11:00, only then he stopped this!!
3- Breakfast was supposed to be continental but it was nothing even close to it. The breakfast is served directly in the lobby which is pretty unpleasant!
4- Although the hotel is non-smoking, the hotel staff smoke in the corridors to the parking. Therefore the whole parking area and the corridors connecting it to the hotel heavily stink.
5- On the website it was mentioned that internet is free for the ones who join holiday inn membership club. After arrival they said that the information is wrong and we should pay. 5 euros for 24 hours and the internet speed is absolutely horrible, not even as fast a dial up.
6- Beds are not firm enough, blankets are small and pillows are not good quality.

I don't recommend this hotel. Worst experience I have ever had with staff and reception.

Dear Tripadvisor user,

Thank you very much for your honest and detailed review. We appreciate you sharing your feedback and comments with the Tripadvisor community. It seems like you do a lot of travelling and we are sorry that our hotel did not exceed your expectations and was not convenient yor you at all. Our entire staff works around the clock to ensure our guests receive the best value for their money. In your case we obviously could not satisfy you.
We are very sorry, that it appeared to you, that our staff at the reception was apparantly rude and impolite. We do our best to accommodate our guests needs, it is still always based on our availability. Due to high occupancy that day, we are very sorry, that we could not give you the room location that you wished for.
Our breakfast is a continental breakfast and offers fresh fruits and different yoghurts, selection of cheese and meat, bread, rolls, pastry and more. We still, as a Holiday Inn Express, need to adhere to certain policies, that way our guests will find the same offers in other Holiday Inn Express Hotels. Is not it nice to always come back to something you already know?
We did have some trouble with our internet in the past, but this problem will be fixed very quickly. We do offer free internet for our gold and platinum priority club member, or you can book a special rate where internet is also included.
We were a little confused when you mentioned our beds because we have never encountered any issues with our beds, pillows or blanketts. Your opinion is very important to us, so we will keep that in mind as well.
Since we are a non-smoking hotel, we are pleased to say that no staff member smokes in the hotel. The hotel is just one part of this building. The other part of this building is also used by private leasers and betting office guests, which is located next to the hotel entrance.
We really need to apologize about our housekeeping staff. We are in action to handle this case, to improve our service and to prevent those situations in the future.
All in all we hope that we would give you some answers.
We are really appreciated you taking the time to share your experience with us and honoured that you chose our hotel for your trip. We sincerely hope you get a chance to stay with us again.

Kind regards,

Olaf Kusch

The Holiday Inn Express was a wonderful choice for my short stay in Frankfurt. I chose it as it is REALLY near to the main train station (about 1 minute walk and very convenient if you have suitcases). It is also very close to the Schaumainkai street, an area full of museums! I went to Museum für Kommunikation and it was really very interesting.
As for the hotel: 1) nice and helpful staff 2) good breakfast 3) clean room and nice big bathroom (highlight a blue light (!) in the shower 4) t.v, fridge, boiler and coffee in the room 6) free toothbrush, slippers, etc.
The only "negative" was that it is situated in the red light district area. To be honest I never felt uncomfortable even though I was travelling alone... Great choice. I would stay again.
