Room: 129 (Twin Bed)

The rooms is quite spacious for two people. It is clean and well maintained each morning. The bath is shower and very nice and updated.

Location: Three blocks from the front entrance of the main train station (Hauptbanhof - approx 400mtrs)... The station sourroundings in Frankfurt are not the best of places and a little shady, but nothing such to make you feel unsafe. You can easily access the hotel.

Breakfast: Very average...
Bread, cold meats, tea coffee etc. It's a very average breakfast but nothing to really complain... it will get you across thru lunch time...!

The only downside that I experienced in my room is that being 129, it was just above the street level and if I opened the window the cigarette smoke from the people outside below would come into the room. Well, this is not a fault of the hotel but just a feedback for this particular room.

Staff are prompt at their work. It is a proper Holiday Inn Express. Basic and crisp.

Since I travel to Frankfurt on business, this hotel fits the bill well... I will come back here.

Room Tip: Room 129: If you need a twin room, this is a great size. I would suggest to ask one a little higher up with the same location 229; 329 etc.

Sandra-Christina, who checked us in, and Jan the manager were very pleasant, cooperative, efficient and helpful. All the reception staff we encountered were courteous and spoke fluent English.

The room keycard that you receive on checking in makes the lifts-elevators go up, unlocks the access door to the corridor leading to specific rooms, and turns on the electricity when you are in your room.

The carpeted room included a safe, coffee-tea making facilities, but no bar refrigerator, a work desk and chair, and a flat-screen television giving access to 35 channels, mainly German with several news channels in English, and 74 radio stations — German, Austrian, Dutch, Italian, Greek, Kurd, Arabic, Tamil and others. The safe was 7 in. deep x 5.5 in. high x 8 in. wide); the opening restricted the size of items that you could put into it.

We found comfortable the queen-size bed, with a firm mattress, and the pillows. The bed had side tables and lamps, one table also with a phone. The closet-wardrobe had limited space and six hangers.

The bathroom had liquid soaps: Lux Shampoo and Shower Gel, which had a very strong perfume, and Dove Cream Wash which had the consistency of a greasy hand lotion. The bathroom had a shower stall, but no bath or bidet, and a hair dryer. The wash basin was quite high up so that when you washed your face water would dribble down your arms onto the floor. The hot water worked well.

The air conditioning was centrally controlled giving heat only during the winter period and cooling only over the summer period. There was no option on the controls to operate the fan alone to circulate the air in the room without heating or cooling. A staff member told us that changeover from cooling to heating occurred in September and from heating to cooling in March.

The double-glazed window in the room was openable (it swung out and up). If you pressed the button on the window handle, it would lock and reception would have to provide the key so that you could unlock it.

WiFi in the room worked well. Also, the lobby had a computer and printer with free Internet access for the use of guests.

Based on the floor plan on the back of the door, the room we had was the smallest and reminiscent of a room one would find in a Japanese business hotel. The hotel was a convenient base for exploring Frankfurt. The room was clean, and suitable for sleeping, showering and leaving one's luggage while one went sightseeing. The very limited storage space meant our unpacking only essential items needed for daily use.

We cannot say what larger rooms were like. There seemed about six variations in size with 28 rooms per floor over four floors of accommodation.

On either side of the landing giving access to the room corridors, we suggest your avoiding numbers x01 and x28 as they are immediately inside the access doors and everyone has to walk past to get to all the other rooms. Rooms x13 - x17 are preferable for quiet as they are at the very back of the hotel, away from the street, and facing a courtyard with two tall trees and other buildings opposite (residential and commercial 5-8 storeys high). The top, 4th floor (European), meant that you would not have anyone above you.

The breakfast buffet (6:30-10 a.m. weekdays, 6:30-11 a.m. weekends) was available in a natural-light-filled, spacious dining area next to the reception area. The selection included fruit juice drinks, tea, coffee, milk, cereals, sliced bread, toast, bread rolls, pastries, jams, honey, peanut butter, cold meats, cheese, tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs, yogurts, fruit salad, apples, bananas and other items. The selection did not change over the three mornings of our stay. Staff replaced items which ran out.

The train between the Frankfurt Airport and the main train station Hauptbahnhof took around 12 minutes, the third stop (on leaving the airport station), and cost E4.25.

A walk from the hotel into the historic center of Frankfurt takes around 15-20 minutes, depending on where you go. Restaurants on the hotel street included Chinese, Italian, Turkish, Mediterranean and Thai, with others such as Vietnamese (and a supermarket-drugstore chain, Rossman) on Kaiserstrasse, or a short walk along major streets in the vicinity. Up the street from the hotel was a fruit and vegetable seller open during the day and selling good-quality produce. Around the corner from the hotel down Munchenerstrasse towards the railway station were also Korean, Malaysian and Mexican restaurants.

The main red-light district (commented on by several other reviewers) is on the other side of Kaiserstrasse, opposite the area with the hotel. The hotel itself is more towards residential buildings and restaurants sufficiently far away from the district's main businesses and other activities. During our stay we were never disturbed or concerned; the hotel location was never an issue.

The hotel is about 2-1/2 blocks (a 10-minute walk) away from the Hauptbahnhof. To get to the hotel, leave the station via the main central entrance and cross over at the traffic lights in front (or use the underpass). Walk up Kaiserstrasse. Cross over Moselstrasse. The next street will be Elbestrasse. Turn right at the corner. Cross Munchenerstrasse. The hotel is in the distance toward the end of the block.

Note that the Hauptbahnhof serves several train systems: these include the Deutsche Bahn, whose trains use the platforms at ground level under the arched roof, and the S-Bahn, whose trains use underground platforms and serve the airport. For getting a train back to the airport, buy a ticket from a vending machine (which can display instructions in English), then take the lift (between the signs for surface platforms 19 and 20) down to the appropriate subway platforms 103-104S below the Hauptbahnhof.

Room Tip: Avoid numbers x01 and x28 as they are immediately inside the access doors and everyone has to walk past to get to all the other rooms. Rooms x13 - x17 are preferable for quiet as they are at the very back of the hotel, away from the street, and facing a courtyard.

It's always nice to find a new hotel that truly understands hospitality. This hotel located near the train station in Frankfurt offered a clean, comfortable, well organized and friendly place to stay on our just completed business trip to Frankfurt.

Natalie and her team at the front desk could not have been more helpful during the check in and check out. Pleasant and knowledgeable, their enthusiasm for providing for the hotel guests was great to see. During the evening, the front desk staff of Daniel and Markus were friendly and very helpful also in giving directions, finding a place to eat, etc.

A couple of specifics...one good and one that the hotel might work on...

The hotel's wi-fi was excellent, although not free. Often, as a business traveler, you find the hotel you're staying in has a wi-fi set that is very "iffy". Not the case here. I found this hotel's connection to the internet was excellent.

An area of opportunity might be to improve the towels in the guest rooms. It's a very small complaint, but softer, perhaps, newer towels would make the in-room guest experience quite a bit better. But, again, not a major issue at all.

So, thank you to the team at this hotel for making a quick visit to Frankfurt a very pleasant experience. Nice to see such efficient and pleasant hospitality is still in the hospitality industry. Very well done, all the way around.

Room Tip: Room up and away from the street was incredibly quiet and great for sleeping. Italian restaurant across the street pizza was a good easy choice for a quick dinner, also.

The hotel is 2 blocks away from the main hauptbanhoff ( train station ) in Frankfurt. It is about 3 blocks away from the old town of Frankfurt and it's famous cathedral Dom St. Bartholomaus. The surrounding structures of the hotel is not impressive as some heave even describe it as the red light district but it's convenient location between the citys main attractions and the main train station makes up for this reputation. The hotel itself looks new and secure ( The entry door to the rooms is locked and can only be accesed by room keys) The staff are friendly. The breakfast buffet is not so good with limited choices. I was given a big corner room due to my gold member status which was great.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel are good due to the fact it could be quiter than the ones in the hotel front. The hotel does not have a good view as it is surrounded by similar height buildings all around

We stayed here on the last night of our trip to be close to the hauptbahnhof in order to catch the train to the airport the following morning. The hotel is an easy 10 minute walk from the station off a side street in an area that contains a lot of activity and diversity. The staff was pleasant and our double room was of a decent size, contained adequate storage space, very clean, modern, comfortable and quiet. Free Wi-Fi included. The continental breakfast was typical European and the eating area was fairly large and adequate. The hotel is security minded as we needed our room card key to get through elevator/doors to return to our room. After our late afternoon check-in we took a random walk that wound up taking 4 hours through the financial area, a Christmas market near the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew (a must see) and along the River Main. Spectacular views at night! We always felt safe at night including the area around the hotel. The price was reasonable (89 Euros) and served our need for easy access to the airport. We would not hesitate to stay here again under similar circumstances.
