It was lovely stepping back in time into this 'faithful copy' of the house where Goethe himself grew up and wrote some of his best works. The information available around the house is extremely interesting and the staff are very helpful.

I know nothing, and I mean nothing about Goethe. I went to this museum for a couple of hours, and took the audio guide. It is a glimpse into old time life in Frankfurt, all traces were bombed into oblivion in WWII. This house has a lot of original furniture, books and paintings from the time of Goethe, and I learned a tremendous amount. The floors creak, and the staircase is magnificent. But sadly, I only realized once I got to the top that this is a very painstaking restoration - yes, the furniture is original because it was in storage when the house was bombed. But the entire house is new - there were shocking pictures of the devastated shell after the bombings. Now, I will go to read something by Goethe, which is his real legacy.

I don't recommend you to visit Goethe House if you just think it's famous, and you'll find it quite dull when you go there. But if his works ever touched you and influenced your life more or less, especially in your adolescence, then the place is a must. I read again and again The Sorrows of Young Werther when I was around 16. Without it I could never have my so bitter-sweet first love experience. Then 20 years later I came to Goethe's house, this was beyond a sight-seeing, but mixture of emotions, memories, and imagination.
