I visited on a Thursday afternoon, when an informal organ concert was in progress. It’s one of the few evangelical churches in the city. Of the ~ 8 churches I visited in Frankfurt, this one seemed one of the most active, with many flyers of ministries and how to get involved.

Exactly in the city center named "Roemer", you will find the Old Nicholas Church, place dedicated to the Saint who protects children but also protects Frankfurt from the river Mein.

This is the reason why this church from the XIII century was built here, nearby the river.

Glass walls are beautiful and the structure is little but interesting.
Take a look at the small low relief positioned in the middle of the ceiling and representing the Saint.

This church has the most "alive" feeling of Frankfurt's churches, or at least that's how it felt to me.
My friend and I were sitting in Romer Square having peeked inside, and were enjoying a hard-earned glass of apfelwein, when the hour struck and Nikolaikirche's bells began. They rang for AGES in a beautiful melody. Our hearts soured.
I'm not sure what time of the day it was anymore (around lunchtime), so I hope this symphony isn't limited to certain hours of the day, but it was perfection.
It's a wonderful place, if for nothing other than those lovely bells.

Old Nicholas Church is in Roemer Square. It's a tiny church, but it's worth popping inside for a few minutes to see the vaulted ceilings!

Much smaller than most of the churches you will find tourists go to in Frankfurt, but beautiful - and it's in the Romer square (which you'll most likely go to anyway) so don't miss this!
