“Outstanding collection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

Another great German museum not to be missed. The setting for the contemporary art collection in the basement is beautiful and should not be missed. Old Masters collection on the top floor includes works by Vermeer, Rembrandt,Tiepolo, Holbein, Durer, Grunewald and van Eyck. On the first floor you will find works from 1800-1945 with key works by the major Impressionists artists including Beckmann. Allow yourself at least half a day.

“Superb collection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2014

This contains an excellent collection of European paintings from the 14th to the 21st century, with an emphasis on German and Netherlandish (both north and south) art from the 15th through the 17th century. There are also French, Italian, and Spanish works, and a smattering of paintings from the New World, among them a striking head of Goethe by Andy Warhol. There is also a very fine collection of photos from the 1840s to 1960. If you get a Frankfurt Card, available at the tourist office in the Hauptbahnhof, you`ll save half the entrance fee. (That card is a real bargain, since it gets you into most museums at half price, and you get to use the public transportation system without paying a cent more.)

“Very good museum and coffee shop”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

It is nice place, even if only for a coffee ... or a walk around the area. Last time I just went for the coffee shop, with a nice atmosphere about it ... parking can be difficult.

“World class collection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

An excellent collection with major artists represented. The underground development for the contemporary collection which is integrated with the skylight studded lawn and the mirror installation on the adjacent wall is world class.

“An enjoyable 3 hours on a hot afternoon!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 July 2014

We visited the Staedel Museum for the first time on a very hot Sunday afternoon. There were not too many people about as the "Iron man" competition was being held in Frankfurt and the river banks were crowded.
It is a beautiful and well-curated collection and we particularly enjoyed the contemporary section in the new lower extension.....a wonderful space. It was a chance for us to enjoy some well-known names and discover new artists...especially those of recent times. The explanations in English were such a help and enhanced the experience for us. The bookshop and cafe well stocked and we spent some relaxing time in both!
