“The 'Ever Fine' Excelsior”
Reviewed 1 May 2014

Back again after 3 years ! The hotel has not changed much BUT the quality has gone higher, The rooms were better, lifts faster, Breakfast more spread out, more variety, and all the charm intact, their famous Free Wifi, Free Mini Bar, Free whole Day coffee snacks, Still possibly the best choice. The extra free's and just 20 Sec hop out of the HBf station is truly attractive. A small tip if travelling single expect a small room , OR just pay a bit more and take a double room it is a better choice.
A small convenient store adjacent, and a money change and telephone card store just next complete your travel needs !

In April I've been in Hotel Excelsior. I was surprised because the price/quality is very good. The room is small and the bathroom is very small and old, but the quality of the breakfast was very good. Also you can drink for free from the minibar and they have cookies, fruit, tea and coffee during all afternoon. It feels good to arrive from a walk in the city and have coffee to drink.
The variety of the breakfast was very good. I didn't expected that from a 3 star hotel.
The worst is the bathroom. The bath is very small and narrow. But I still recomend for a short stay in Frankfurt.

Room Tip: If you are a smoker choose a no smoking room.

Great value ... Booked a single room at 50ish EUR for one night, including breakfast. Conveniently located right opposite the railway station. The room was, in a sense, moderately big, definitely better than some other single rooms where I have stayed in Switzerland and the US. The breakfast was nice considering the price, but I'm not sure if I was lucky or it was the normal breakfast -- they were renovating the breakfast room, so the breakfast was served at the adjacent hotel. The minibar was free (although only a few bottles of drinks and no snacks) and there were free refreshments in the lobby during daytime.

My biggest dissatisfaction is the bed. It was just a cheap spring mattress which couldn't really support a man's weight well. And they put the spring mattress on wooden slats, not a wooden plate so you can't just remove the mattress and sleep on the wooden plate underneath. I suffered on the mattress, could only sleep 5 hrs and my back hurt. However, at this price I guess one can't really expect too much. I did a little research on the internet and found that hotels with firm bed had only double-bed rooms, which were more than twice as expensive as this hotel.

It's the little extras which make this a great hotel. The hotel itself is a little old on the decor, however with all the complementary extras such as mini bar, afternoon tea/cake, printing and wifi it certainly provides great value for money. We caught a train from the airport to Frankfurt Main (about 20min), then headed out the South exit to find ourselves (literally) on the doorstep of the hotel. Beds were very comfortable and breakfast had a good variety of food to cater to several nationalities. Be prepared to walk the stairs too (maybe request a room on the lower floors) as the is only one single slow lift to service the building.

Our recent travels found us in Frankfurt for a weekend, and we used credit card "points" for a stay at the hotel.

The hotel rooms are very basic; as in, no aromatic soaps and lotions in the bathroom, and lacking a hairdryer. However, our double room was immaculate; the bathroom equally so. The room was slightly worn in spots, but not uncomfortably so. One minor complaint is that the bathroom lighting is garish, so, ladies, you may want to double check your makeup before heading out.

Its location across from the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof means that the area is lively. Very safe, but lively nonetheless. The weather being warm, we slept with the window open, the sounds of urban train station life drifting into our window. Not a problem for us. The little extras in this hotel make it stand out, though. Coffee and tea, and small sweets are available in the lobby throughout the day. The complimentary mini-bar in the room includes bier, waters, orange juice and sodas. The wifi connection is excellent.

The breakfast buffet tops that of top-rate hotels, in my opinion. The continental breakfast buffet includes more than the scrambled eggs and cereal of North American continental breakfasts and the meats and cheeses of Europe. We savored samosas, Mie Goreng, as well as Mediterranean olives and cheese for our breakfast feast.

We found the staff to be pleasant, gracious, and ever helpful, as well.

Hotel extememly well situated just in front of the train station and a 10 min brisk walk from the main shopping area. Tea and coffee available in the reception area all day. Rooms well insulated and spotless. Lovely fluffy duvets. Ample room for the two of us sharing. Very accomodating staff even when we came in late.

Room Tip: Even though ours looked out over the station and the main road, it was very quiet.

My daughter and I stayed three nights at hotel excelsior, in a twin room. The beds were comfortable, the room clean and the bathroom also clean. Just what we needed for the short stay. We really liked that the mini bar was free and re-stocked each day. We booked this hotel due to it being so close to the train station and walking distance to downtown. A little noisy during the day due to some sort of construction but fine a night. I would away here again for a short visit.
