“A few things went wrong”
Reviewed 31 January 2014 via mobile

Location is the best; very close to Hauptbahnhoff. Very clean especially bathroom.

A few things went wrong.
- No air conditioning. Only a heater which did not heat enough.
- noise of toilet flushing from other rooms can be heard loud and clear at night
- no lift to the 7th floor. Only up to 6th
- some staff don't speak English well
- room rate was expensive for what we got

Due to miscalculating our departure date from river cruise were left with an extra night in Frankfurt and needed to find a hotel for one night. A quick search on TripAdvisor came up with the Hotel Plaza and we were not disappointed. It was one of the friendliest check ins I have experienced and although we were too early for our room, they stored our cases until our return from once again visiting the Christmas Markets. Although small it was large enough to accommodate our very large cases and have room to move with an enormous bathroom with spa. It was spotlessly clean and bedding was fantastic, nothing was missing that we may have required and with free wifi it was perfect. Position was great for doing all the touristy things and so close to the waterfront which was a huge surprise especially when we had booked a taxi from the boat to the hotel. Within minutes we had arrived. Perhaps could have walked if we had known but lugging suitcases around just doesn't appeal. We had a very pleasant meal at a Chinese Restaurant just down the road 2 minutes and noticed other dining options in the same area. It was so nice there that one night was just not enough.

Room Tip: Room on the 6th floor facing courtyard was ideal. So quiet and size wise fabulous.

We were here with friends last year, too. This time we stayed longer so as to visit Christmas markets of cities we could not visit, and do some shopping in flee and antique markets.

We are very glad that we stayed at the same hotel. Except for a small flaw, 7 nights of stay was perfect. Though offered in a small hall, breakfast was again worth to mention. It is impossible for one to start the day unsatisfied at this hotel. Well, after 9:30, you may find something is missing, but they are immediately provided if you request. They have given up putting chocolates on your pillow, instead, they put them on the breakfast table. Small St.Klaus's on the table is a nice touch indeed. Again, customers were mostly there for bussiness, We guess we 4 were the only tourists.

They tried to give us the same rooms, and they were partly successful. Me and my wife were given our previous room. My colleague was given a smoker room this time. He objected to it at start before check-in, but he was more than content afterwards, because their room did not smell at all, even though the whole floor was for smokers. It was nice to have them on the same floor with us. And their room was a proof that if ventilated in time and kept clean, smell of smoke does not become a concern at all. And this hotel did manage to accomplish that.

But, what I explicitly wish to express this time, is the location of the hotel. 200m to Baseler platz tram stop, from where you can catch T12 towards east, and T21 towards west. Do you know what this means? It means you can go anywhere important from Höchst to Ostbahnhof. 350m to the south entry of Hauptbahnhof means you can go anywhere in Germany by just 12 min walking.

And we did. We took the ICE to Amsterdam for Köln in 1 hr, and back. We also went to Mainz and Wiesbaden on another day in 0:40, and to Limburg (lahn) and Idstein in 1:10 on another, and to Fulda in 1:30. All were fun. If you are in Germany, you must ride the Deutsche Bahn. I do not think there is any railway service so punctual anywhere else in the world.

But you must keep in mind that getting on to an ICE train from a station that is not its departure or arrival point, might be troublesome. I also would not advise you to depend on an ICE train for going to a scheduled flight or departure, because their time schedules are frequently adjusted to fast connections on their paths. Their timing is more sensitive to their connections than their arrival at their destinations. We had to wait extra 25 minutes for an ICE to return to Frankfurt from Köln. If we had planned to take a flight, bus or train at, say 22:30 that day, we would be ruined. Thank God, that regional trains and S-bahns are not managed with that approach.

Frankfurt is a tiny city compared to Istanbul, where I live. Almost everything that would attract a tourist lies inside the proposed (now inexistent) citadel. And Zeil is the bussiest street in town. If you happen to be at west end of it, around Börse, get on to an S-bahn from Hauptwache for hauptbahnhof. Or else, if you are nearer to Konstablerwache, Paulskirche/Dom, Zoo, or Willy-Brandt Platz, get on to a tram which will either take you to Baseler Platz, or Münchener Strasse / Hauptbahnhof stops, or worst, to Hauptbahnhof stop. And oula!, you are almost back at your hotel ...

If you have come to Frankfurt for shopping, I would recommend visiting the outlet stores at Jaegerallee stop along T11 and T21 westward paths. You may find better prices than in Zeil.

Also visit a closed, professional floh and trödelmarkt: "Raus aus dem Keller" near Kleinmarkthalle. You can find many stuff there, but beware the owner, he is a bit more than clever!

Another recommendation would be visiting the wine-shop of Rollanderhof balcony at the west entry of Kleinmarkthalle. You can also come across them at the Konstablerwache weekly market on Thursdays and Saturdays, and have wine at an open bazaar. They serve good quality self-produce wine at good prices, starting from 2.40 € / glass for almost 1/3rds of a bottle. You may probe and buy too. 1 bottle, cheapest 4.50 € / L, or in 6 or 12 bottle casks. I know German beer is good and cheap, but one gets bored after some time. It goes well with snacks, wurst, or potatoes, but not by itself, or together with a good steak. Besides, you have to drink at least 2 L before you get cheered up, but you can't, because you become 2 kgs heavier!

Needless to say, that Messe is only 2-3 tram stops from Baseler Platz with T16 and T17. If you wish to go to its west entry, take S3,S4,S5, or S6 to North from Hauptbahnhof for 1 stop. I would not pay more for a hotel in or around Messe, because they do not offer comparable public transport access.

Fantastic value for triple room, great quiet location but very close to railway station & 25 minute walk from Romer. Very friendly staff, hotel very clean, didnt have breakfast as on a budget & felt 14 euros little to much. great breakfasts at the railway station though :)

One block from the river. Pleasant walking distance to all the sites and the train station. Quiet safe street. Extremely helpful and accommodating staff. Check in was 1400. I arrived 0630. Was in my room by 0815 without hassle. Comfortable, clean rooms. Unassuming appearance and probably not the place to go if you need a big lobby with bars and restaurants to sit in. Unquestionably would go back if in Frankfurt. Possibly use a taxi to get there the first time as it is down a quiet nondescript street

I have stayed in this hotel many times and it is always great value. The rooms are small but very clean with comfortable beds. The location is good too in a quiet street only a short walk from the main railway station or around 8 euros for a taxi to the main shopping area. I will definitely stay here again.

Having never been to Frankfurt before, we chose the hotel based on brand name and location.

Even before we left the USA, the hotel staff answered multiple emails I sent in a very efficient fashion.

The property is located less than a 10 minute walk from the Main Train Station. When we arrived, we were greeted by a wonderful Front Desk Clerk. She was friendly and outgoing.

We had a brief wait for our room, but it was well worth it. The room was large and well appointed. It had a small minii-bar; very comfortable beds and a clean bathroom.

We would highly recommend the Bet Western when staying in Frankfurt.
