i had one evening to eat outside during the last lighting fair in the Messe, got high recommendation with specific dish,i went with 2 colleagues and we were all disappointing, the place was crowded and we waited for 15-20 minutes (that was OK because it means they know what they are doing). we ordered 3 different dishes (mine was Wiener Schnitzel) waited something like 20 minutes when the first dish arrived after 5 more minutes the second and the 3rd guy had his dish after 10 more (actually i finished mine before he ate the first bite) that what i call service. i must say that dishes weren't tasty also (my Wiener Schnitzel was socked with oil, and i ate this dish on different places around the world). maybe it is the fair time or maybe it is to old to last.

OK - I'm one of the airline folk who frequent Gerd and the Baseler Eck. I've been eating there many times each year for the past 14 years. When he's busy he is all business. When he is not you might even get into conversation with him and maybe even a see a smile. However, pleasantries aside, you will find it difficult in Frankfurt to eat German food that is any better or as reasonably priced. Try the jagr schnitzel or sweinhockzen (spelling?) - you WILL NOT be disappointed. His red cabbage, potatoes and spaetzel (noodles) are great side dish choices. Gerd has run this place for 40 years and has earned his stripes. Truly one of the finest "gasthaus" choices in Frankfurt.

Went there with customers at recent Ambiente trade show.
The welcome we received was awful and basically pushed to a table.
Unless you have a party of 6 or more, you don't get your own table and as there were 4 of us, we had to share with complete strangers, facing each other across the table.
The waiting staff are extremely rude, unhelpful and rush you into ordering .
We all chose medium sirloin steaks, which weren't cheap, but totally inedible and burnt to a frazzle.
These were accompanied by a heap of soggy crinkle cut chips and no vegetables.
A totally unpleasant experience from the second we set foot in the door until we left .
In all honestly, one, if not the worst dining experiences I've ever had

While in Frankfurt we were looking for a German restaurant for a good meal and a few drinks. The place oozes charm and was really busy when we arrived. Not a problem, we waited (over a beer) for no longer than ten minutes before we had a table. Service was good, food was really good - a pity that we could only fit two courses in. But after a wine or three with dinner, we left more than satisfied - at a good price.
